    Help with brake hoses

I understand this is an old thread but I need to add the I would never use Harbor Freight or any other cheap-ass flare nut wrenches on any brake lines. Bite the bullet and go with top of the line wrenches for this application. Snap-On, SK, MAC, Hazet and Proto are all built to much higher...

    Need help with A/C system

I replaced some A/C components earlier this year for the first time. Much more to it than I first thought but there is a ton of information on the internet to help you along. Ended up working great, much to my surprise. It's quite doable for someone that's never dealt with A/C before, just take...

    TH350 to 700R4 Swap

Thanks, I also plan on swapping in a mild GM crate 350 at the same time. What about the column shift? Been trying to research this for hours but haven't really found any definitive information.

    TH350 to 700R4 Swap

Isn't that a manual trans? I'm pretty sure I'm looking for an auto.

    TH350 to 700R4 Swap

What is involved with this swap? Thinking of getting a crate motor and figure I might want to add a gear while I'm at it. 1981 C10 SBC Thanks,

    No Spark, No clue...

Unfortunately I may have jumped the gun. After several normal starts and bringing the engine temp up to operating temp I went to time the engine it stumbled and died. After this I could not get it to start again yesterday BUT I had spark! This make it even more puzzling. Did I flood the motor...

    Overheating “slightly” and infrequently

If it's not a grounding issue, I'd buy an aftermarket gauge and sender, loosely install and see if it replicates the readings. I also had a vehicle one time that had so much silicone tape around the sender that the sender had a hard time grounding out to the head and read very poorly. Doesn't...

    Distributor Swap

I'm battling with an ESC distributor now but am trying to keep things as original as possible so I'm doing what I can for the reasons Ricko mentioned above. You say you have the ESC jumpered now so you have basically eliminated it already. It should run well as is, might have to play with the...

    No Spark, No clue...

I went ahead and ordered a rebuilt distributor from Rock Auto. It's an AC Delco and should be as direct fit as possible + it comes with a new pickup coil.

What is the diode in the distributor you are referring to?

    No Spark, No clue...

I did read that "test" but it says it requires at least a 450W soldering gun which I don't have. I'll ask around

Sounds interesting, I'll do that later, what do I have to lose. Do you know what they go to?

Been measuring and rethinking everything and I'm pretty sure I have a bad pickup coil per my ohm meter readings. Now to pull the distributor which seems like a another fun exercise...

    No Spark, No clue...

Well still no closer to a solution than I started this morning. I feel like an idiot but I know I am not, having wrenched on cars for over 40 years. I studied the service manual for several hours last night and despite the poor printing and feeble wiring diagrams figured I had a pretty good...

    No Spark, No clue...

While looking up info on the ST-125 spark tester, I came across this article. Looks pretty interesting, I'll read it all later. doesn't really cover my distributor but interesting anyway. https://www.gmcmi.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/HEI-Testing.pdf

You sure? Not to dispute you but seemed legit going by the trouble shooting section for the ESC in the factory manual. I don't have the exact procedures in front of me now and my memory is a little weak. I'll double check when I get back to the homestead. Didn't go any further since it says to...

    No Spark, No clue...

I did put a voltmeter on the Tach terminal and got 12 volts when the ignition was on, didn't notice any fluctuation when cranking but I wasn't really looking for it. I'll try thing test again as well. Thanks to all

    No Spark, No clue...

I thought I did this last evening when I jumpered the black and green wires coming from the distributor after unplugging the 4-wire harness to the ESC. I didn't do anything with the actual ESC unit itself behind the glovebox.

Thanks Ricko, I did not unplug the ESC box itself. I'll try that next.
