350 small block with m12 crank bolt?!

I measured the shaft of the bolt with a cheap plastic gauge. The old bolt rubs the sides of the 7/16 hole and slips easily into the M12 hole (dirty minds . . . .). Both take a 5/8" socket. I'm going to take the bolts to Home Depot to see what their bolt checkers say. Chevy's drive me crazy -...

350 small block with m12 crank bolt?!

I thought about chasing the threads, but the old bolt goes in nice and smooth. I would hate to rethread it and really mess things up. Unless the prior owner's solution was to go up in size to fix his mistakes (totally possible with this truck).

350 small block with m12 crank bolt?!

I know 7/16 is the standard that's why I'm confused but the new bolt that I know is 7/16 fine pitch goes in by hand and then jams like it is cross threaded. The other bolt I can get in pretty far by hand. I can measure size but not pitch at home, and the old bolt is definitely bigger. I'm not...

350 small block with m12 crank bolt?!

Put in a Vintage Air serpentine belt system this weekend and it went mostly OK but the supplied crank bolt does not fit. It will go in a turn or so by hand and then binds up. I can thread the old bolt in by hand so the threads aren't boogered up. (And it's too short to reuse) it looks like...

    Testing the horn circuit

I'm not positive the dome light works yet but I know the circuit is good. I got it working by tracking down a short. You are supposed to have power to the orange wire and the white is ground. The door switch completes the ground of the circuit (I'm explaining that wrong). The housing is plastic...

    Dome light

Me too. This weekend's project was figuring out the radio, horn and dome light problems. All were popping fuses My wiring harness is not perfect but not too molested either. Looks like the POs only did an engine swap and at least two aftermarket radios. My line of thinking was to look for...

    Testing the horn circuit

Thanks all. Resolved the problem by working backwards. Tested each horn and they worked after cleaning the contacts and banging them a bit. Went to the relay socket and jumpered the orange power to green horn wire. Wiggled it and it started working. Sort of randomly applied power and ground...

    Testing the horn circuit

I've tracked down what I think are most of my electrical Gremlins, but my horn doesn't work. There is power to the orange wires going into the relay. (1984 K10 Silverado) What I would like to do is test the circuits without taking the steering column apart because that is another set of...

    What's this yellow box?

Thanks all. Cruise control is further down the list. Right now I have to figure out why I don't have power to a lot of things like dash lights, radio, clock. I'm going to dig for a few days and then I'll probably be back with more questions.

    What's this yellow box?

1984 k10 with full gauges Yellow box by Bruce Wingate posted Jul 14, 2021 at 6:45 PM I'm tracking down some wiring issues and ran into this. I haven't traced the source wires yet but there is a terminal that connects to the speedometer neat the speedo cable. What the box /circuit for?

    Vintage Air: Weekend Install?

Parts have been ordered (and some have arrived). I've read the instructions about 10 times looking for gotchas (like you need a reverse fan). After vacation next week, the project starts, sort of. This all started because I was tracking down some dodgy wiring behind the dash (no lights, no...

    Vintage Air: Weekend Install?

Thanks Craig. Did a little googling and found variations on that technique for "heater delete "

    Vintage Air: Weekend Install?

1984 K10 pickup originally with factory air but with half of it removed by the PO when he put in the new engine. I just ordered a Vintage Air Surefit kit, Front Runner serpentine kit and associated bits and pieces. Assuming 1) I work slow, 2) I am average with mechanical skills but not the...

    Relays, Relays, Relays

I was thinking about something like this: : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MR64XK1/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_RB0TCA6Y1FFGN4SPQCM5 I know there are things out there at varying price points - I'm just curious if I will be creating more problems than I solve

    Relays, Relays, Relays

All - I have a 1984 K10 with some problematic wiring that I am working my way through. There will be additional posts over time about all the little problems. Right now though, I am working on the power windows and have a relay kit. I also will probably install relays for the headlights and...
