2004 Dodge Ram Rear Disc Brakes?

Chrysler's parking brakes were usually a smaller drum incorporated in the center of the rotor. othe than that, its not much different than the front as far as regular brake servicing.

Can I drive truck up to 70mph safely with just the front driveshaft installed?

When you are done, just shut the ignition off before you put it in park, let it freewheel till it stops.

Can I drive truck up to 70mph safely with just the front driveshaft installed?

no, seriouse....get the speedo to show 70, so he can make sure its not a problem with the T case.

    Recommend a distributor

Airtex/wells is best if AC Delco cant be found. Make sure you match the part number up with your old one, there are 2 different ICMs for TBI trucks, and it has to do with spark latency settings.

Can I drive truck up to 70mph safely with just the front driveshaft installed?

Remove both shafts, get it up to 70, and see if it persists.

A red solo cup, duck taped to the rear housing should suffice for testing, but check the transfer case fluid level after you put the rear shaft back in.

    Compression and tbi

Yeah, I have not driven a vortec TBI, so I dunno. I would think the larger ports would be more detrimental than anything else. Compression is definately a good thing, as long as your available fuel/wallet will allow.

    School me on the 454...

Another thing to keep in mind is the advancements made with small blocks, starting with the Gen1 Vortec, which is simply an LT1 combustion chamber, and runners made for a standard small block. Gearing is the big ticket here. I could build a 4.3 v6 powered truck, with a 6 speed or more trans...

L31 is best with a dry manifold setup.....any engine is, really.

    School me on the 454...

Correct^^^^^ I get 17 out of my TBI 350, but thats with OD, could probably do better with a finley tuned Holley MPFI Avenger setup. If I were in your boots, I would get an L31 vortec, and top it with the Avenger MPFI.....unless a 5.3 is an option. Both with a 4L80e of course.

    454 TBI Parts

Yup, early 454 tbi was a q jet manifold, with the spacer/ coolant passage. Jason's 454SS had one. None of the 454 TBs had a kickdown nub.

dads cammed tbi need computer tuning?

Dang ole....yup^^^^^^ Do you by any chance have the cam specs or what cam it be? How far are you from San Antonio, or do you already know of a dyno tuner close to you? Did he get a controller for the trans, or is that still in the works?

TH400 Vs 700R4 Vs 4L80e Vs gear vendor

I dunno, I think stuff goes to shit quicker if you dont drive it. When it comes to gears, I think the more, the better. especially if it allows the use of a smaller, more fuel efficient engine. I think a 350 with a 6 speed would be just right.

    Compression and tbi

Hmmm...thats the same thing they say about swapping from TBI heads to vortec...a slight SOTP loss in TQ.

TH400 Vs 700R4 Vs 4L80e Vs gear vendor

You had better find some wood to knock on, I said that before thanksgiving, and bwamo! Allison would be the biggest bitch, you would need a 2" body lift to clear it.

    Compression and tbi

Shouldnt....will run better if anything. May need to run a higher grade of fuel though.
  19. Jims86

    Compression and tbi

Shouldnt be an issue as long as you keep the stock cam, but even then, its worth a good dyno tune. The big deal with speed density is the cam profile...you install something that lowers vacuum, and the MAP sensor will read low vac, and the ECM will fatten up the fuel big time.

    L31 (Vortec 5700) swap

Some NAPA stores do custom lines...just go that route, and be done with it.

    Electrical issue....truck not starting

Sure thing! FYI, I have had really good luck with the AutoZone yeller top batteries.

    Electrical issue....truck not starting

Check the cables, make sure the connections are clean and tight. Batt positive goes down to the starter, gnd goes to the Alt bracket or block.mOne of them may even have an internal break...may be a good idea to just go ahead and replace them. Have you checked the alternator output?

TH400 Vs 700R4 Vs 4L80e Vs gear vendor

Yeah, 4L80 and controller, and be done with it. 1Low4x4 just completed the swap in his 85 C20 about 2 months agao, and is happier than a queer in a dick tree. Recently upgraded his engine with a carbed Vortec top end too.
