C'mon @Honky Kong jr spill the beans. Enlighten us on your engine. It sounds like a sweet setup. I'm putting together my 496 package now, and insight is much appreciated.

    454 4L80 Swap

I have yet to order a cam for the stroker build, so hell, I may give them a call and see what they say. I'm up for trying new. This will be my first roller motor to build, so might as well go all out.

    454 4L80 Swap

I've ran comp cams stuff, nearly always a custom grind though. Quality has always been there. No complaints. I've never heard of Predator though.

    Favorite tool brand?

I have a solid mix. My grandfather was a mechanic and he set me up with the beginnings of my tool assortment, and what he gave me was all Mac, Snap On, Proto, and SK. Over the years as I added to my collection I have mostly bought Kobalt, as it seems to be a decent product for the cost. My...

looking for shocks that work good and wont break the bank.

I've always ran the Monroe shocks that were a little higher end ($50-$60) or the KYBs that were about the same price. Had good luck with both.

    Carb on LS Based motor

Wouldn't bother me one bit. EFI is nice, but carbs will make just as much power, at the cost of a little bit of mileage. You can grab a good condition junkyard LS, do a few mods, swap it in, and end up with a great power plant for a reasonable cost. I say if that's what you want to do, go for it.

    Whats your Dream Build?

I'm doing one of my dream builds now. I've always wanted to build a square crew cab (single wheel) into the ultimate camper towing wagon, which is exactly what I am in the middle of doing. Second dream build is to build a 72-93 dodge 1/2 ton short wide (my first ever vehicle was a 1982 dodge...

    Flo-Tek Aluminum Heads

All I know is that there is a difference between the no name brands and what you get from AFR or Edelbrock. @Honky Kong jr is right, bare heads are the way to go. I might would run a cheaper head if it was bought bare and my guy went through it. That would go a long way as to me trusting it...

    Flo-Tek Aluminum Heads

And you can go quite a bit more cam with a factory iron head than the cam you have listed. If your engine is TBI that may be your limiting factor more than anything.

    Flo-Tek Aluminum Heads

Heads are the one place I will not skimp, especially when you can kick in $2-$300 more and have something like edelbrock heads. Reviews seem to be decent, but I've seen horror stories (like a pro comp dropped a valve in a BBC, very ugly). I'd stay with a factory iron head, or spend a bit more...

    427 tall deck rebuild

It should be real easy to go north of 400hp and 500tq, and quite a bit over those numbers if you so desire. Yes, your tranny will need it too. lol

    427 tall deck rebuild

If I were shopping for heads for a torque monster 496, I'd look at the AFR 265 heads. Some will see this and say what???!!! But if you research the flow numbers, they flow VERY WELL up to .600 lift and port velocity stays WAY UP. These heads would work very well with a 496 and a cam with say...

    Frame rails

Yeah, that large hole ain't factory. But the good thing about metal is it can be persuaded to do what's needed.

Good place to have SM465 rebuilt in Oklahoma or South Kansas???

I actually may just find a good one in a salvage yard, throw it in for the time being, then tear in to the one I have now. Cheaper all the way around and I can build myself a backup.

Good place to have SM465 rebuilt in Oklahoma or South Kansas???

I don't think I have the time to dedicate to rebuilding it myself. Right now it looks as though I am ordering one from Cali. Blumemthals in OKC wanted $1450 for a built unit, and were real iffy on cost to rebuild mine. But I'm going to do some thinking on this.....you're right, its just nuts...

    496 Build

Last thing, unless your 100% sure on doing this yourself, I would find a reputable engine builder to have build it. I'm not a fan of cookie cutter crate engines. I have always either built them myself or had an engine builder build exactly what I want. It's really no more expensive than the...
