    TH400 seems to be dragging

Okay folks, I finally made it back to KS to give her some more TLC. :) Looks like I've got an NP208. I'll post pics showing a better view of the tag, and another shot of the transfer case itself. Now, before any rags on me, yes, I know she's filthy. lol I haven't worked on cleaning...

    Header/Exhaust thoughts

So, I've got a pretty significant exhaust manifold leak (#2, I can feel it lol), as well as an exhaust leak at the muffler itself. Looks like it might have been drug over a stump or something similar, the mufflers bent and crooked. So....I'm thinking that if I'm going to go to the trouble of...

    TH400 seems to be dragging

Welp, I haven't seen her yet since I started this post, but I'll be there tomorrow night. Sounds like I've got a 208! I'll double check everything when I get there and post pics. I've also ordered the Warn hubs. They should be waiting on me in Hutchinson!

    TH400 seems to be dragging

I think I'm going to get a set of manual Warns coming, just in case. I'll also get a service kit for the autohubs. I'm prepared both ways. ;) I like the idea of manual hubs, but really like the stock look of the autos... Well, my wife does. So that means I do too I guess. lol

    TH400 seems to be dragging

Roger that. I'll be up there tomorrow night, so I can get a better picture of the tag. I'll repost then. Quick question. I've been looking into servicing or replacing the autolocking hubs. I would bet they've never been serviced. I don't plan on a ton of 4 wheelin', but I want to make...

Rebuild Auto Hubs or Replace with Manual?

In my 83 K20, it feels like I'm getting some significant drag when I let off the gas at any speed above 45 mph. I've confirmed that the transfer case is not in anything other than 2H, but when I try to turn the transfer case driveshaft, it feels 'notchy'. I've double checked the brakes, and...

    TH400 seems to be dragging

Quick update. I'm not near the truck at the moment (I'll be driving up there Friday) so I can look at the transfer case, but I'm not sure now that she's an NP205. I found this pic while I was looking for something else. Is this an NP205 or something else? Not too familiar with the tags...

    Fuel Pump Woes and Questions

If memory serves (the truck is still in KS), the AC accumulator was hooked up. And it used a pretty small vacuum line. Maybe 1/8" ID? This line was large. Like maybe 1/4" ID. As I said, she ran a ton better when I plugged it. I'll double check it again when I get up there, just to be sure...

    Fuel Pump Woes and Questions

'Mornin' folks! Thought I'd give an update... Dropped the LH tank Saturday morning with the main concern being a clogged pickup sock. That, my friends was a serious PIA. Should have lifted the bed, but I figured "how bad can it be???". Yeah, that was mistake number one. Not confirming that...

    TH400 seems to be dragging

I had an '86 S-10 Blazer that I seem to recall worked like that... As an update, I put her in 4H and 4L, and it's definitely engaging in those modes. And definitely un-engaging when I pull her out of 4X4. That being said, the hubs are a different story right? I still need to pull them apart...

    TH400 seems to be dragging

Welp, I went and tried freewheeling the short shaft. Is it supposed to free-wheel 'freely'? This one doesn't. If I rotate the shaft (in either direction), she feels clunky, and doesn't make it a full turn before stopping. This is with the engine off, and the vehicle in park. I'm guessing it...

    TH400 seems to be dragging

Thanks for the reply! And yep, it's an NP205, and I'm indicating 2HI from the cockpit. I'll double check the short shaft for free wheel. I should have thought of that yesterday, but, well, it was a long day, and I was just excited to have the motor runnin mostly like she should! lol I'll...

    TH400 seems to be dragging

So, I've been working on this stock 83 K20 that was driven very infrequently in the last 8-10 years. And none in the last 3 years. Got the fluids right, as she'd been leaking from....everywhere. Valve cover gaskets, trans pan, power steering, you name it. Installed new trans filter and...

    Air filter housing

I've just come into ownership of an 83 K20. I was under the impression that it was completely stock (my late father in law owned bought the truck new, and only took it to Chevrolet for servicing). My air cleaner is of the shorter design. Gets me to thinking that maybe he didn't only take it...

    Headliner from RockAuto?

Now that is a nifty idea! Came looking for headliner replacement options, and found another way that my much better half can get involved in my K20 build!

    Fuel Pump Woes and Questions

I was thinking the same thing. As I mentioned, the existing mechanical fuel pump looks 'new-ish'. IE, cleaner than the other components found in the engine bay. That got me to thinking as to WHY there was an electric pump installed in the first place. With that being said, what's the best...

    Fuel Pump Woes and Questions

Roger that, thanks for that Ricko! Still, I think I'll tear into her this weekend, and get rid of the Mr. Gasket electric, install a new mechanical pump, blow out all the lines and maybe replace the fuel caps. Speaking of which, is there a good way to see if a fuel cap is bad? I know that it...

    Fuel Pump Woes and Questions

LOL No worries. Re-adjusted my timing (without vacuum) to about 9°. Seemed to help. I also unscrewed the fuel caps. That helped a ton. Still, she's missing at at idle. I should clarify, that I may have been wrong in my assessment of #5 not firing. I 'think' it's number five because it...

    Fuel Pump Woes and Questions

Roger that Snoots. I'll probably be pulling the fuel tanks and taking a gander in there at the socks. Having said that, I loosened up my fuel tank caps, and that seemed to have made a pretty difference. She still not perfect, but I was able to keep her moving without too much trouble. I'll...

    Fuel Pump Woes and Questions

Good morning folks. I've actually got two problems I'll be asking about. Let me know if I should split them and have separate threads. :) Rebuilt the Qjet on my 83 last weekend, and everything went well. The carb wasn't in too bad of shape, but I did notice that all of the bolts/screws were...

    QJet Linkage

G'mornin folks! Does this look right to y'all? It seems like that vacuum operated solenoid isn't connected to anything. New to QJets, so please bear with me. :)

    QJet Identification

I've done some searching, but not having any luck identifying the carb that's on my 83 K20. Looks like the numbers are "17080213" Any of you good folks have some data on my Qjet? Thanks!!

    Quadrajet Part Question

Agreed! lol It's just two little Torx screws. Ain't no way they'd handle 20 FT/LBS. Inch pounds maybe... lol
