What have you done to your square lately??

I took three 30 lb propane bottles to the gas station. We ran two tanks empty on the past camping trip (they were not full to start). I also filled the truck with gas (in one tank) and put 5 litres of fuel in the untested tank. I'll run the truck onto the lift and test the repairs I made to...

Fuel filler issue. This can’t be right.

That's been a square body issue for decades. We had a couple of bridge planks along our farm tanks (when I was growing up) that you drove the trucks up onto, so they leaned more and let the fuel flow better, but it was still not the greatest and never at flow volume.

Anyone leave their door springs off on purpose?

That's why I now have a spare set of keys hiding on almost all of my vehicles - we had to wait for CMA to open the car one evening when my roommate locked the doors with keys inside - bad part of Calgary and late at night

Anyone leave their door springs off on purpose?

Or the door closes scaring the crap out of you when you have your back turned to the truck and the door bangs shut while the truck is a few feet in the air on the lift...

    Door gap

I asked my 85-year-old friend, who has been an autobody man since his late teens, if I had my doors right. He asked if they both closed and if there was wind noise. I told him that the doors stay closed, don't rattle and I don't hear wind noise over the exhaust. "Then the doors are good...

Clear coating over patina: anybody done it?

Now I want to go home and polish my truck but is it worth the time to polish "3 different" trucks? It is more put together now as I got the lights and tailgate in a few nights ago - following the box swap on the weekend.

    Rock Auto Discount Codes

Mine only discounts the parts not freight; and freight to Canada is re-donk-ulos. But is some things still cheaper than I can find elsewhere.

    Window channel weatherstripping

I did mine with the window in. I removed the bolt holding the rear metal channel so I had more room - as per this video. I also have been watching the Brothers' how-to-videos.

Biggest jobs you have completed in the shortest amount of time.

I went from one working light (with most wires gone elsewhere), no fuel gauge, no speedo, exhaust leaks, leaking rad, blown muffler, bad brakes and some much more - to a road legal truck in about 1-1/2 months. I'm still not done and I just brought home a better box to repair and install...

Biggest jobs you have completed in the shortest amount of time.

We were living in the Fraser Valley (lower western part of BC, Canada) when Mt. St. Hellens blew. We had ash landing on our stuff too - can't imagine how bad it was at ground zero.

What have you done to your square lately??

I remember gun racks in the rear window - even here in Canada. I still see the odd one but they often have a walking or cattle chasing cane.

    Fix dragging doors. Shims

I also just used washers - I only needed them for the RH bottom hinge once I replaced all the hinge pins and bushing. There were stacks of washers in the bottom hinges that, I assume, were there to try fixing the sagging doors.

What have you done to your square lately??

I had the inner fenders out when I did my brake valve - I wish I had pulled the rad out too. That happened a few weeks after the valve as the other side of the radiator started leaking (neck rotted out) - so I pulled and replaced it anyway...

What have you done to your square lately??

I always loved the saddle blanket covers. The truck I learnt to drive on the farm had this style of seat cover and the front pockets always had fencing pliers, .22 brass and often a pack of Colts with a lighter (my dad's). So now I need to find an old set of pliers, go gopher shooting and buy...

What have you done to your square lately??

Built new seat-slide mounts and installed a small (and shallower) steering wheel so I can still have my cheeseburgers and milkshakes... There wasn't a lot of room for my kids and they're both small and skinny.

    Trailer Wiring Adapter

I run 7-pin RV-style connections on all my vehicles and I have adaptors to go to the four-pin for when I help move someone else's trailer (two friends' boat trailers are 4-pin and I often haul them to the lake as payment for staying at their cabins for the weekend). I ran a junction box at the...

Lowering coils and ball joint replacement

My vote is to replace the ball joints while you have it apart. Mine are all still solid, and original, but the rubber boots are starting or have been leaking grease for a while. I have it on my list to purchase the Moog Problem Solvers when I order the lowering kit. I like to be prepared when...
