    Help! Carburetor on 250 I-6

Re: EFI. That is my eventual goal for this truck, along with likely an NV3500 transmission with hydraulic clutch conversion to replace the current 3 speed manual. My immediate goal is to get it running/starting/driving well enough to keep it in service in the meantime.

    Help! Carburetor on 250 I-6

Awesome diagram! Saving that image! Yes I will plug it in to there, I was thinking about doing that, but I'm so afraid of plugging something in wrong. I very much appreciate that! (

    Help! Carburetor on 250 I-6

See, you get it. I've had two Ford cars with Inline 6s, and (aside from carburetor issues on one especially!) they were smooth, economical and so reliable. When searching for me a truck, an Inline 6 was the idea. The 1983 Mercury Zephyr GS had the benefit of being tuned by a Lincoln-Mercury...

    Help! Carburetor on 250 I-6

Fair question. It was pretty much why I bought the truck in the first place. I love inline 6s, especially American ones. Aside from a vintage Inline from an American truck, I was actually looking for a late-80s-96 F-150 with the 300 6.

    Help! Carburetor on 250 I-6

Well I meant it as a question to you or anyone. There was a factory MPFI version, just in Brazil in the 1990s, haha! Not exactly available at CarQuest. I have heard mention for performance intakes that separate the ports, because the factory system has one port per two cylinders. I was just...

    Help! Carburetor on 250 I-6

Forgot to mention why: the intake was damaged when the butterfly valve in the original exhaust manifild (!) was stuck closed. This was discovered when I had the exhaust manifold replaced a few months ago. I was strongly advised to get a new intake, and a new head, if or when I can. Let me also...

    Help! Carburetor on 250 I-6

Not that I can afford it now, but where do you recommend I source a replacement intake and (eventually) an EFI system for this engine? Even if it's just throttle body, especially if I can't find or afford a better aftermarket intake manifold.

    Help! Carburetor on 250 I-6

Thank you so much for the encouragement! The truck started pretty damn good today, but it wasnt 6 am, it was 10 am (we usually dont work Fridays). But, I didnt even have to open the hood, it fired right up. Of course, it still sticking with high idle speed when driving unless I kick it down. I...

    Help! Carburetor on 250 I-6

@sirrobyn Nahh, no such luck on the vacuum diagram, not even in the Haynes manual I have for the truck (I really want a factory service manual for all my vehicles eventually). Here are the pics of the lonely disconnected vacuum hose. Its the one casually laying across the inner fender, over...

    Help! Carburetor on 250 I-6

Ahh, well I will run it by the shop I usually use and let him look at and we can figure out how to get it on there, and on there right. Thanks for the tip! Also, there is one hose from the vapor canister that I have no idea where it goes. I will take pics of that tomorrow.

    Help! Carburetor on 250 I-6

It has been like that since the carburetor was installed. I don't know enough about it to find the parts and hook It up.

    Help! Carburetor on 250 I-6

Right, that's what I tried to explain earlier: that the choke doesn't seem to be hooked to anything, linkage wise (It does have a vacuum line running to it). However, the truck was starting fairly normally since I started driving it in February, it only started having this no-start-when-cold...

    Help! Carburetor on 250 I-6

Yes, its EXACTLY like the "kick down" when warming up a carbureted engine, but does it all the time. Anytime you so much as breathe on the throttle, it back up there until you "kick" it down.

    Help! Carburetor on 250 I-6

I see that is all I got (that turned out okay), but I am off work tomorrow and can provide more if needed. I plugged two vacuum hoses, one that runs from the carburetor to a metal tube that circles around the valve cover (kinda with the hard fuel line) and ended there. I live a long ways away...

I'm sorry I didnt get in until now, but I took these pictures while stopping along the way for a minute with my cousin.

    Help! Carburetor on 250 I-6

Thanks for your response. I did check for vacuum leaks and found a couple. It seemed to start okay, but still running at 2000 RPMs until I kick it down with the throttle. I believe this carburetor is setup for a manual choke, but nothing is hooked up to the linkage. I noticed when it was...

    Help! Carburetor on 250 I-6

Hey guys, first off, let me say that I hate carburetors. It was my only hangup about buying this truck, and sure enough, its proving to be just as troublesome as those I've had on imports and Fords. This is not the factory carburetor. It came from O'Reilly auto parts and they couldn't give me...

    Shout out from Brandon, MS

Russ, hello from Greene county, Mississippi! I believe my '74 C10 was sold new up closer to you, back in '74. Its my first square body, although lots of friends (etc) have had them, so I wasn't going into it totally blind, lol. I've only been here (on this forum) for a few days, but seems to...

It's a 1969 F-100 Ranger shortbed. Originally came with a 390 which has long since been removed and it has a tired old 70s 351. I plan on a Cummins 4 cylinder turbodiesel for it. Edit: from about 1967-1986, I much prefer GM trucks, as far as styling, etc. The 1969 Ford has been in the family...

Thanks! I like your truck. Went and filled up mine today, it's my week to drive to work, but my co-worker/cousin doesn't want to ride without a/c lol. Oh well, there's plenty of airflow in the cab, and our entire drive is outside of the city.

Well, that engine has been phased out, but you can enjoy the diesel-like noise a newer direct-injected 5.3L makes at idle, especially when it gets to or over 100k. The older 5.3L was a good engine, the newer versions are garbage. Neither one (Ford or GM) are perfect, but I was mostly speaking...

Thanks Mike! Ford vehicles tend to treat me the best, but I can fault no one for buying a GM truck. They're not as advanced as F-150, but if that is their preference, I will only congratulate them on the purchase. I do respect their decision. My Focus replaced a Honda Element, and it has been...

Thanks man! I'm very happy with it. I bought the paint yesterday to redo the bumpers. Hopefully get started on that when it isnt raining next week.

I replaced the fuse and it blew again. I think it's the way the lighting for the auxiliary gauges was done. I'm waiting for my brother to come look at it.

Well, this morning, I guess a fuse has blown. I've got no headlights, brake lights, dash lights, etc. I think I see the fuse, but I don't have one like it.
