Is there such a thing as Cams for Dummies

Thanks guys, as usual it sounds like I’m probably making things more difficult than they are. As of right now the truck is an 80 c20 with either 4:10 or 4:11 rear end. 4 speed standard transmission, Q jet carburetor that is supposedly opened up to dump more fuel when you give the pedal full...

Is there such a thing as Cams for Dummies

So does anyone have a source for a place that explains how to chose a cam and whatever needs to be changed with it, possibly in crayon? Got a good ways to go before I’m at the stage of doing motor work on my grandfather’s truck. But I am thinking about swapping cams eventually. Always been...

Better illumination of gauge cluster possible?

Thanks I went ahead and ordered some. I was afraid they would be blinding bright. I’ve got to pull my switch out and hose it with contact cleaner.

Better illumination of gauge cluster possible?

Thanks, I believe you may have sold me on them

Better illumination of gauge cluster possible?

Any chance you have a picture at night time on full brightness. I’ve been debating swapping and may order these if they will dim

    Front Brake hose stamped nut

15/16 is what size wrench I had to use the other day to fit the one on my truck. You may be able to use a washer and thin nut that’ll fit the thread on the rubber brake line. Might get you out of a bind until you find the correct one.

Help figuring out correct front inner wheel seal

Just to make sure I’m understanding correctly for anything the future. A seal with a smaller width can be used as long as it has the correct OD and ID. As I’m now assuming it doesn’t affect the position of the bearing in the hub.

Help figuring out correct front inner wheel seal

Got the right seal from bumper to bumper by the office. Don’t know what the deal was at Oriley’s using the 46453 number. Guy looked up the number on the shelf went and grabbed it. Haven’t put a caliper on it to see how much wider it is but I don’t think it’s more than a 1/16. Morale of the...

Help figuring out correct front inner wheel seal

When I changed the brake pads and repacked the bearings on my truck I chipped a piece of the inner rubber and decided to get a replacement. (Only repacked the driver side as Im waiting to find the correct seals) Truck is a 1980 C20 with the HD brake system. Supposedly 8974s was supposed to be...

    Few questions

Out of curiosity since I’m thinking about putting my magnum S-680 in my truck since it’s been sitting in the closet for a couple years now. Where is everyone running their coax out the cab? Is there another place besides the firewall on the driver side?

Changing front rubber brake lines. Where’s the inner clip?

Had to do some googling. Guess the dawn makes the solvent stick and not evaporate as fast and have time to break through the gunk. Was debating spraying some old diesel on it since there’s a lot of road tar on driver side control arms mixed with the grease and oil. I used a plastic scraper...

Changing front rubber brake lines. Where’s the inner clip?

I’ve got a small electric one but it doesn’t cut it when it comes to 43 years worth of caked oil and grease. Pretty sure my grandfather never washed the underside. Did buy a couple cans of gunk engine degreaser today to try since purple power does nothing. Going to drag it to work and use the...

Changing front rubber brake lines. Where’s the inner clip?

Thanks I was thinking it would unscrew, but I have torn up so much trying to fix something at work lately. It’s gotten me gun shy on just doing what my gut tells me. Trying to find a friend with a 15/16 crow foot at the moment as a wrench just doesn’t fit in there. That and I don’t feel like...

Changing front rubber brake lines. Where’s the inner clip?

Trying to change the front driver side rubber brake line on my 1980 C20. Like everyone else that I’ve found online it’s not going easy like you would want it. Come to the conclusion that I need to do like others and remove the clips and use a vice grip on the flare and a 6 point wrench on the...

Another speedometer thread, stopping and asking questions before I mess something up.

Pduffyd thanks, for the info. The speedometer would bounce when I hooked the cable to a drill, and the peg looks good and square. So I guess my next step is to check the bolt on the yoke. Which I’ll check when I when I change the u-joints and carrier bearing. Thanks for helping me narrow...

    Insurance for my 89

When I got it on my 1980 c20 everyone I got a quote from used what it sold for brand new in 1980 for the value.

Another speedometer thread, stopping and asking questions before I mess something up.

What book/source is this from? Like to figure out what parts I might need to source if the Speedo drive needs to be replaced and how to do it correctly. Since I’m about to replace the U-joints and carrier bearings, I can check the nut on that yoke. Along with anything else I can access from...

Anyone know the bolt size for mounting the parking brake?

Going through some photos on break of the rat nest of wiring on my truck and noticed the mounting bolt on the side of my parking brake is gone. Anyone know what size it is so I can grab one out of the bolt bin before I leave work? Picture of where it goes even though it’s not lined up with its...

Anyone know if the Smash Hit grill guard is stainless or chrome plated?

Thanks it’s going to be chrome plated then. Guess that answers my question on how to go about trying to bring it back to shiny if possible.

Anyone know if the Smash Hit grill guard is stainless or chrome plated?

Gave Perry Co a call and the guy said for me to send him a couple pictures of it and he would look it up. Then let me know the coatings that were available and what they believe mine is.

Anyone know if the Smash Hit grill guard is stainless or chrome plated?

Got a smash hit grill guard that I’m wanting to keep. Having a hard time telling if the round stock is stainless or very thickly coated chrome that’s extremely dull. Know all of the support pieces are carbon steel. Don’t remember anything other than the logo ever being shiny. Planning on...

Another speedometer thread, stopping and asking questions before I mess something up.

Thanks Bextreme04 I’ll take that box off and try it. If the output off the transmission is rounded, is that a part that I can just unscrew and replace altogether or do I have to actually into the transmission?

Another speedometer thread, stopping and asking questions before I mess something up.

I’ve checked my cable and tried a different gauge to verify everything was working from where the cable connects to the transmission to the gauge itself. Went through and looked at every thread I could find to deal with a speedometer, all 18 pages worth. Powerhouse Ranch’s Speedo gear page was...

    50W in a 454?

Think what he's saying is look and see if it is oiling everything correctly. If there is build up, it would be signs of the oil not circulating correctly do to the thickness. I'm just going to stick to the 50W until I get ready to have some work done on it. Unfortunately the only persons that...

    50W in a 454?

Quick summary on my truck, it's my grandfather's 79 or 80 C20 with a transplanted 454. Rumor is that it came from a family friend that had built it for a race car and did something to it to make it more suitable for pulling before putting it in. This truck was mainly used for hauling feed and...
