    4.1 mpg?

Sometimes, as much as one might like to work on their own stuff, the problem is just a little beyond their ability. Considered a pro? Diagnosis will likely be cheaper than throwing parts at it and a whole lot faster. Just a thought. Either way, good luck to ya!

    TBI I need help

--Two grounds at the coolant sensor? It doesn't have 2 grounds. Are you sure it was the coolant sensor? Should be one yellow wire and one black. --The dielectric grease that comes with the ignition module is NOT for the terminals/connector. It should be applied to the underside of the module to...

    No spark need help

Hmmm. Exactly how did you determine that it has no spark? Make damned sure that you have a FULL 12v to the distributor via the pink wire (looks like yours is red) anytime the key is in the ON or CRANK positions. Disconnect your TACH wire until you find the problem just to eliminate that circuit...

New Member! Need some help. NO spark, Ignition coils are getting hot with ignition on.

If the coil is getting hot simply by turning on the ignition switch, disconnect the Tach connector at the cap and see what happens. Also, make sure that no wires are trapped under the edge of the distributor cap and that all wires inside the distributor are ok. Good luck!

    Charging issue

You can't accurately check the resistance in that wire with an ohmmeter. If every strand of wire in it is broken except one, it will still test ok. To do an accurate test you need to check voltage drop on the circuit with approximately a 20 amp load. As far as output goes, it is considered...

    No spark need help

Of the 5 wires that leave the cap and go toward the odd bank, 1 crosses back behind the carburetor and goes to the even side . From what is shown, it appears that the wires are going to the correct sides of the engine. Supasosa, you said that you put the new distributor in but didn't say whether...

    How does horn get activated?

The relay is probably the best place to start. Within 30 seconds or so you should know exactly which circuit is at fault. Disconnect relay and check the 3 connector terminals: one should be hot, one to horn, one to ground switch at column. If any one doesn't work, chase that circuit. If they all...

    Different AC compressors

If it's a factory compressor there should be a label on it that will have a part number. A photo might help.

Stripped crankshaft hole with new harmonic balancer bolt.

Did the bolt bottom out in the hole? It doesn't look like it did. Are there any threads left in the hole? I wouldn't think an 1/8" would be a killer but can't say for sure. If it comes down to repair, just HeliCoil it. Not hard to do, once you've made some working room. Once repaired, this...

    Really bad idle

Starting point: Check the cylinder balance by grounding each spark plug wire. Make a note of any cylinder that has little or no RPM drop as compared to the others. The easiest way to do this is to install a short piece (2" will suffice) of vacuum hose on each distributor cap terminal, then plug...

What zero lash on the lifter rod should feel like?

"Rocker arm spring" is a misnomer. They are valve springs.

What zero lash on the lifter rod should feel like?

Hmm. Maybe I missed it but I didn't see it mentioned that the 'zero lash' must be when the lifter is on the base circle of the cam, like it would be at TDC of the compression stroke. Otherwise you'll be way off. I've always adjusted these to zero lash plus one turn, as factory specified. No real...

    Fuel Pump Whining?

An intermittent "screeching" sound from the pump? Now that sounds like you're going to be replacing it soon.

    Fuel Pump Whining?

"Can be" also means 'may not be', as in "not necessarily". The pump on my truck was loud for nearly 80,000 miles before I replaced it. The reason I replaced it was because the level sensor failed and I wasn't going to drop the tank and put a new sensor on a pump with over 300,000 miles on it...

    Fuel Pump Whining?

Noise by itself is not necessarily a problem. Electric pumps whine, some worse than others. If frame mounted, it may help if the pump is isolated with rubber bushings. If it still seems excessive to you, check the pump output (pressure and volume). A new fuel filter will sometimes alleviate the...

    Tbi crank no start

I don't know why anyone says that! I loved these systems from the first day one came into the shop. The engines of the previous years were covered in what seemed like miles of plastic vacuum lines. The underhood of these new systems was so clean looking. These TBI systems are dependable and...

    Tbi crank no start

You lost me. "visible injector pulse" but "injectors don’t spray"? Maybe you're saying the injectors pulsed electrically as evidenced with a noid light? How do you know that the "Fuel pump primes"? If the correct fuel pressure is being delivered to the injectors but there is no spray, your...

Where can I get an OEM thermostat for a 1974 Chevy C10 with a 454?

Pretty much anywhere that sells GM or Delco parts.

    Qjet fuel drainback information

Gotta agree with Ricko on this one. I would NOT cut a steel line to add an inline filter. Once cut, you'll be hard pressed to find another if you decide to return it to factory. A new, properly installed filter at the carburetor will do the job. By the way, someone mentioned Cliff Ruggles' book...

    Qjet fuel drainback information

Velder, the DCP system merely reduces the accelerator pump shot volume after the engine warms up. It was supposed to reduce emissions. Seems like it was only used for a couple of years. It was pretty much trouble free, as far as I'm concerned. The only parts I ever replaced were the occasional...

77 C10 350 valve clatter during long drives

First thing that comes to mind...when most people complain of "valve clatter" it is actually pre-ignition / detonation that they're hearing. Timing check is easy enough. Make sure the mechanical advance is not sticking or stuck. Not enough info was provided to help. Other than after warm-up...

How do you feel about this?

I'm afraid you have it backwards. The lifter is supposed to have a very slight crown to it, which promotes spinning (see picture). Whether or not you risk it is, of course, entirely up to you. No skin off of my nose either way. You asked for opinions and I rendered mine. Good luck to ya!

    350 tbi timing

Advance 10-14 degrees?! On a factory stock motor? Wow, that's news to me. I've had these trucks come in pinging with just a few degrees variation. The computer does not just run timing up until the knock sensor triggers and then back off. Timing is set according to a specific algorithm and has...
