To 6.2, or not to 6.2

I’m a 6.2 noob but a square body veteran. I just picked up an 87 suburban 2wd with a 6.2 in it. It’s a 2 owner truck and was meticulously maintained. Motor runs great with 700r4 and 3.08:1 gears. I just got 23.5mpg’s on a highway trip last week averaging 70mph. It’s not flat land here in Maine...

An authentic 22k mile 1986 C 10? How do you know?

Look at the brake pedal pad for wear, drivers door hinge for worn out pins and lots of slop. If he has original GM keys, see how worn down the teeth are, and windshield wiper linkage for slop. Those things will tell you if it's 22k or 122k pretty easily.

    max a/c

Yeah it just closes the fresh air door to recirculate the air inside. So the a/c isnt trying to cool the hot humid outside air.

    Rear heat pictures please

Thanks. I have the other three options and the open space I have I bet was for the rear heat. I guess I'll try to find a switch so it'll look factory the. I can mount the heater where I like and runs lines how I like.

    double din stereo

The 89-91 blazers burbs and crew cabs had double dins factory so the gauge bezel is already cut for them. Just have to trim the metal dash behind it.

Truck won't idle up when voltage drops too much

They will not idle up to keep voltage at 14 or so volts. Not how it works. You've either got a weak alternator or inaccurate volt gauge. The motor will only idle up if a load is placed on it like a/c pump kicking on or putting it in drive if an automatic. My '87 read around 12 volts at idle with...

    Cluster Swap

No it will not. The wiring is actually a lot different. Im in the process of swapping over my 87 to factory gauges but havent finished it so i cant give you exact wire positions in the plug ans such.

    Rear heat pictures please

Yeah my truck has rear a/c too. The switch up front has a spot for another switch it looks like and was wondering if the rear heat goes there. I'll end up customizing it because all I have is the housing for the rear and that's it. But I just wanted to see how the factory did it.

    Rear heat pictures please

Thank you. Does anyone have pictures of their truck with rear a/c? What controls the diverter valve. Looks like the kit on ebay just has a fan speed switch but nothing to open or close the valve to the rear heat. Thanks!

    Rear heat pictures please

I'd like to add rear heat to my 84 burban. I've got the factory housing and core but would like to see where it's supposed to go. Also would like to see the switch for it and where that is mounted on the dash. Thanks!

    700r4 skips 2nd and goes 1st to 3rd

Definitely 1 to 3. I've had several 700's and know the shifts well. After doing research I'm pretty positive it's a 2nd gear band issue. Was hoping for a simple secret fix but not usually my luck.

    700r4 skips 2nd and goes 1st to 3rd

Hey guys, just started tinkering on my new to me 84 6.2 liter burban. The trans winds up in first and shifts to third. I have me let off the throttle to keep from redlining the motor and it'll shift then stay in 3rd. I haven't driven truck far enough to see if it'll get overdrive and lockup yet...

    Hello from southern maine

It's a winch to haul junk on my trailer. I'm a heavy duty diesel mechanic but I also scrap vehicles and the winch pulls the dead ones on the trailer. I love the Jimmy's paint. The stripe is paint too not vinyl. Sad to see it getting soft on me. I did a complete rear floor and tail pan back...

    Hello from southern maine

And here's the burban on the trailer just as I got it home. Kills me to get salt all over it but had no choice. It'll get cleaned and well under later before I start driving it regularly.

    Hello from southern maine

Couldn't figure out how to load more than one picture in a post on my iPhone but that's the 87 I'm going to do a motor swap in. My original 87 jimmy is behind it. That's the truck that started it all 16 years ago! You can see the front of the 89 blazer in the video too lol. They're...

    Hello from southern maine

Thanks guys. Here's a link to the 82 when I first got it on the road. It's still got the California "patina". I did the interior as it was the tan but I had a spare red set and would like it to be black someday. I painted the jambs but that's as far as I got. I wish they kept it yellow but oh...

    Hello from southern maine

Hey guys, new here but not new to the square body gm's. My first vehicle was an 87 jimmy that is now the family plow truck. Still runs great but getting soft from the harsh road salt and winters. Live got an 89 blazer parts truck that was a plow truck but very rusty. An 86 jimmy that's my plow...
