What have you done to your square lately??

For the first time in 8 years of owning my 82 k10, it wouldn’t start for me. Didn’t even try to start. Thankfully it was at home and in my lean to so I didn’t get stranded. It was last weekend and I just finally got to fix it today. I checked for fuel in the carb and when I pumped it, fuel shot...

    Fuel pump pushrod stuck??...

That is one of the most impressive things I’ve heard in a long time. I’m not sure I could bend one of those trying. But this guy was like Mr Magoo and had no clue he was doing something so stupid lol. Ben

Inner Rocker, Outer Rocker, Inner Cab Corner, Kick Panel & Floor Replacement

Dang..... that’s why I run from trucks when guys say they just did rockers and cab corners. No one goes to this length to do it correctly. Nice job! Ben

    Break in procedure

Red hot exhaust can mean late timing as well. That’s why I have a timing light right there and have it at 15-20 degrees BTDC at 2k rpms. It’s be around there or even more once the timing is fully set anyway. And with no load on the engine advanced won’t hurt anything. Ben.

    Break in procedure

If you need to shut it down before 20 minutes it better be because of something major. Like loss of oil pressure or coolant temp 210+. If you do, fix what ever issue you’re having and resume break in procedure. That’s why it is so critical to just make sure everything is right the first time so...

    Oil filter cooler adapter question

Tight is tight. Too tight is broken. Just tighten it with a regular ratchet and it’ll be fine. I wouldn’t feed it all the ugga duggas from a 1/2” gun. Ben

    Break in procedure

If it’s a flat tappet cam, you need to follow these steps very carefully to make sure your cam survives break in. 1. Make damn sure you are on #1 TDC 2. prime oil pump. 3. drop distributor in and make damn sure your rotor is at #1 terminal and firing order is correct. Tighten distributor...

    Pcv or not to pcv?

I just have a breather on each valve cover of my 350. Old school. It slobbers a bit on the valve cover but I’d rather not have my motor eat it’s own shit. I grew up and still have many old school diesels in our big rigs and all vent blow-by out a vent so my 350 does too. ben

new hub and rotor 1989 GMC Suburban

Yup, rule of thumb is grease bearings need to be a bit loose to not push all grease out of the way and get hot. Oil bearings can be a bit tighter but still not too tight. Yours are too tight. ben

    Just bought a 1989 GMC Suburban V1500

Yeah, that truck was probably in a front end wreck. It’s got an 85-88 front end off a Chevy. Love seeing another suburban thread. Ben.

What have you done to your square lately??

Installed the old school perlux fog lights so my lighting will be period correct. Took them off my 88 blazer parts truck, got new bulbs and put them on. I’ll see how well they light the road tomorrow. I’m very happy with the look though. Ben

    Extra Electrical Connectors?

Take pictures so I can see what you’re talking about. My 87 suburban with the 6.2 is amazingly untouched except for the few mods I’ve done myself so I can be of some help hopefully. Ben

Best headlights to use, NOT LED

Pulled a set of these old school perlux fog lights off my 88 parts truck. Going to get new bulbs for it and run these on my suburban to compliment the new headlights and relay set up. I’ve already got relay power to my current fog lights but I put cheap led bulbs in the housings that don’t...

Talk me out of buying a more reliable car please!!!

building pieces in spare time to them swap out in a weekend or week is a good plan for sure. But I guess you need to figure out what isn’t reliable about your truck. Other than gas mileage, what’s wrong with your motor? Motors aren’t usually what cause breakdowns, other than catastrophic...

    Fuel additives for 6.2L

I also use two stroke oil. One ounce for two gallons of fuel. It’s oil that is meant to be burnt so it should leave the least amount of deposits behind. Our old school fuel systems need the lubricant that used to be in the fuel from higher sulfur content. I run the two stroke oil in my 15 liter...

Talk me out of buying a more reliable car please!!!

If you don’t have the time, place, or skills do to the repairs you just stated you had to have the shop do, DO NOT even think of an engine swap of any kind to try and gain mileage. One because the results will be marginal at best, and two, the cost and down time of such a swap will take so long...

Best headlights to use, NOT LED

I finally got around to making my own relay harness to at least get the most power to the headlights I can. I bought all new sealed beam headlights from Napa because I didn’t want to spend the money on h4 upgrades just yet. what a difference the relays make! I made my own because it’s easy...

    Speedo Bouncing under 20MPH

I’ve always liked the little bounce of the needle. Makes me know it’s mechanical and has age and mileage on it. Gives it character. I like when they go backwards in reverse too lol. Ben

79’ round eye to 80’ square eye

I’d take the smashed rotted fenders over the squircle nose every day and twice on Sunday.

Best headlights to use, NOT LED

I just got the Napa equivalent to those lights and am planning on making my own relay kit hopefully this weekend. I’d like to see where I’m going compared to before. Ben

    Suburban 3rd shoulder belts

Hey guys I’m looking to put the factory 3rd row shoulder belts in my ‘87 suburban that has just lap belts. I know the middle row has the bolt holes already for the shoulder belts even though it only has lap belts. I haven’t pulled my trim to see if the 3rd row is the same but was wondering if...
