Alt Replacement Options? A bit confused.

Yes, the 10SI was designed for a max of 63 amps. But modern tech has come a long way since those old regulator designs. Is physically bigger better? Sure. More mass to dissipate heat into. But those modern 140 amp 10SI alternators are usually pretty good. And they don't put out their full rating...

Searching for My Dad's 1979 Chevy Suburban

There's several '79 Suburbans available in the southwest. Didn't see any MT 4x4s, but it was a brief search within like 200 miles of Phoenix.

Fix Slamming Doors - Striker Door Latch Repair

Where has this been my whole life? For $3.21 (they only had 5’ sticks) I was able to fix all four door in my suburban in like 3 minutes. Now I’m going to need new weatherstripping for the drivers door. But it closes so much better.

    Those Guys Racing project vehicles

My buddies and I have a few different vehicles for projects. The reason I'm here, my '78 Suburban 2wd tow rig/family truckster. 454, TH400, 3.40 gears: My '78 Camaro drag car. 383, TH350, 4.10 gears, nitrous: '72 C20 long bed. Cut frame down, ZZ3 crate, 4L80e, narrowed '06 rear end...

Trans braces not installed when motor went in, can I fix with a little welding/fab work?

I'd just make a new bracket out of flat stock and weld it to the mount. Then use your existing rods.

Engine & transmission removal & reinstall general tips

I would advise pulling the radiator just to be safe. It's only two more lines if you're running the trans cooler. The carb plate is fine to lift the engine and trans out. As far as the engine and trans coming out together via the carb lift plate, absolutely no problem. Engine with accessories...

Alt Replacement Options? A bit confused.

Just to be clear, I was not advocating the use of one, just that it could be handy in an emergency to get you out of a jam.

Alt Replacement Options? A bit confused.

You can swap the serpentine pulley over to the Summit alternator.

Alt Replacement Options? A bit confused.

Summit has a house branded 140 amp 10si pattern alternator. Should be plenty for you. The CS130s are nice, and do go over 200 amps nowadays, but they're also more sensitive. For pure reliability, it's hard to beat a 10/12si. The one I link to is also able to be run as a one wire, so if you're...

    2000-2006 3rd row seats

Picked up a set of 3rd row seats out of a Tahoe or one of the other badges. Got them for $40 from a guy who bought a storage unit. Time to make some brackets!

    Trailer wiring

When I posted the wiring diagram for the heavy duty trailers, it was the blue ABS control wire I was referring to. I'd wager that the 5v is for the ABS controller.

    EFE to Manifold Gasket Question

    It's a donut style gasket. 2" or 2.5" listed. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/chevrolet,1978,c10+suburban,5.7l+350cid+v8,1296435,exhaust+&+emission,pipe+flange+gasket+/+seal,5836

    LTZ Seat Swap

To quote VGG Derek, "Well, I'll be dipped!" I checked it out this morning and I have 6 threaded bosses. Two in the front and four in the back. I assume that the outside 4 corners were for the seat and the two in the center back were for the belt anchors?

    LTZ Seat Swap

Maybe I'm missing the bolt holes. I didn't know the early ones were bolt in. I'm going to get back there and get looking. Thanks for the info.

    Trailer wiring

The +5V should be the actual brake control circuit. The red brake wire should be for the lights. The +5V should be pulsed and looking for a load when nothing is connected.

    Drive shaft too short

Welcome to the group. If you're going to do the lowering kit anyway, just do it and see where you're at. It's hard to tell exactly where the slip yoke will end up after the kit. It'll come forward a little, but likely not as much as you hope.

    LTZ Seat Swap

Just had an idea for the back seat cleats. I'm going to make mine so the floor brackets go the same direction. Like a view of the front drawn in text: L-L Then I'll slot the floor bolt holes. Then I can just quick loosen the bolts, slide the cleats out, and tighten the bolts back down. Leave me...

    Electronic Shift NP203/NP205 Doubler

If you're dead set on not using air, I'd use an inline linear actuator. Can mount just like an air cylinder. Way more universal that OEM style actuators.

    Little help please

Welcome! Even on my race car I run a mechanical water pump. I'd suggest starting a project thread for general help or threads in daughter forums for specific issues.

Along the same lines as fast 99, I'd solder or braze in something and never need to worry about it.

    LED conversion

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084M8QRDX/ Adjustable speed flashers always work in my experience. I have one in my motorcycle, a friends VW Bug, and a few others. The only "downside" is that it will not hyperflash if you have a bulb out. It will happily flash away, even driving just a test light.
