    My end goal is a 540 built for the street and a 4l80e. We'll see what happens but I'm hopeful. I figure even after all the money required to build it I would still have less in it than some guys spend on new trucks and have something I consider to be way cooler.

    I've been kind of thinking about picking up another 14 bolt with 3.73 or 4.10 for towing down the road. Then I'd just swap rears depending on what I was going to do, will all fresh fasteners and hardware under my truck I think it would be pretty easy to swap them.

    I believe I gained some by switching to 3.21 from 3.73. But my situation is different than most. I was doing alot of unloaded freeway driving at 85 mph. And my 454 is better than stock, I figure torque wise I can't be any worse than a guy with a 350 and 4.10s.

    Unless I'm misunderstanding the product you would still have to remove the carrier. Pretty sure the truetrac replaces your old carrier and the ring gear bolts directly to it.

    Can't say without knowing the stroke of the crankshaft. But since it's an aftermarket crank I bet it's 383. Would be kind of a waste to get an aftermarket crank without extra stroke.

    I really like that topper. I poked around their website hoping they might have one for a stepper, but no luck. Do you think it would be doable to narrow a fleetside one to fit a stepper? This would be way off for me but I like that more than any other I've seen.

    Oh I know, it would be purely to practice porting. I have no intention of ever using them, one of them is probably shot from eating a piston anyway. I would apply what I learned to my large ovals after I built some confidence.

    I opened it up to match the big ovals. After doing it once with a file and dremel bits in the screw gun I'm definitely buying a die grinder next time.

    X2 on the closed chamber heads on a 454. I'm essentially running the combo he described and I love mine, admittedly it's really the only combo I've ever had other than stock. I'm running 390 heads and a 218/228 cam with a performer 2.0 and headers.
