Firewall cleanup & paint prep, any tips?

Yep, it had A/C. Converted to 134a and now I'm replacing that with a VA setup. Yeah now I feel better about my truck ;) although my 69 was as bad as that one, ended up replacing the cab!

Firewall cleanup & paint prep, any tips?

Thanks for the input! I did torch it a bit but it gets messy for sure. I found this morning that Xylene works very well with some scrubbing, it seems to be taking everything off nicely. It is a bit hard to get in between that brace piece and the firewall but I'm determined to have this thing...

Firewall cleanup & paint prep, any tips?

Thought I'd spend a few days cleaning up the firewall and re-painting while I have the engine out. This is by far my least favorite part of any project I've done ;) I'm looking at that big brace piece and trying to figure out how I'm going to get all that rubbery sealant junk out of there...

How to remove parking brake release rod?

Thanks for the info, I went out there and got it done. It took quite a lot of force, crazy!

How to remove parking brake release rod?

I feel dumb asking how to do this but I can't get that dang thing out. Pulling everything off the firewall so I can spray it while the engine is out and I can't figure out how to remove that release rod. Looks like it just hooks in to a rubber bushing on the parking brake assembly but it...

Anybody use these low tension hood springs?

Yeah they're in good shape and were lubed. I tore the front end down the other day and yanked the engine. Now they hinges have been pressure washed (hey, they're gray again) and I'm going to paint them, figured I'd do some new springs as well. I'm guessing the high tension version might be ok...

Anybody use these low tension hood springs?

I've seen people say they've used low tension springs with the stock hood but didn't specify which ones. These are all I can find but I'm tried of wrestling that hood down and waiting for the day it folds. Anybody? https://www.eharwood.com/catalog/ACCESSORIES/Hood-Springs

    Bulkhead connection check

Hey guys, I'm about to do some re-wiring while swapping in a LQ4 engine. Between my color blindness, old faded wires and hard to read black and white wiring schematics I just want to be sure what I'm looking at. The labels I placed on the image are the numbers from the wiring harness...

New power window relay how-to using negative trigger

Sounds like you've misunderstood. The center pin of the switch is now connected to ground (instead of switched + as original) and the switches never see + on any pin the way they are wired now. If you go back and read my original post and still feel that it sounds like I've wired it the way...

Weatherstrip is so confusing for me

Thanks for the info, I should have looked there! So strange how this one came with a full piece and the other...guess every part I order from now on I'm going to have to make phone calls to figure out WTF they sent me and what to do with it. Come to think of it, the video they posted (1A auto...

Weatherstrip is so confusing for me

After doing my relays I realized just how bad the weatherstrip was on my 79. I went ahead and ordered up a kit, thinking I would skip the vent windows because they scare me. Then I thought better of it and picked up the vent window kit locally ;) After looking at numerous articles and videos...

    Intellitronix installed

Just FYI, I've called, left messages and sent emails. I'm not getting any response from Intellitronix after more than two weeks of trying. I don't often make disparaging statements about companies online but in this case I'd steer VERY clear of these clowns. Junk product and no support...

New power window relay how-to using negative trigger

Thank you gmachinz, I was wondering if there was something wrong with my approach. After all I am just an amateur! hatzie, I like where you're going with this and I hope someone can confirm. I'm about to re-do all the door/window weatherstrip and seals anyway. My window motors are probably...

New power window relay how-to using negative trigger

Running ground from the switch to the relay, rather than power from the switch to the relay (to activate the relay) . The relay power is jumped to the main power in, and gets activated when we pass it a ground signal. The relay is passing power from the original wire to the motor (and to...

New power window relay how-to using negative trigger

Yes I have, works great. Probably better with an upgraded power source though, I'll probably replace the current feed with a 10 or 8 awg thru a grommet to replace the existing one when I re-wire for the new engine. Why do you ask?

New power window relay how-to using negative trigger

Thank you for the feedback! I did think as I was posting I should include some other pictures (these are all I took as I worked) and links to the supplies is a great idea. It only let me add 5 pictures so I will come back with some updated stuff. I know I always appreciate folks posting...

New power window relay how-to using negative trigger

I've been meaning to do this for a long time and finally got around to it this weekend, thought I'd write up another how-to. Nothing wrong with the current ones, but more information is usually better so another won't hurt! Looking at this and how the wiring is done (mine is a 79, I know...

New dash pad from Cheyenne Pickup

Wow I didn't know, from my googling they come highly recommended. I think I'm going to order up on from USA1 now. I'll make sure they take this one back and they can pay return shipping. Fortunately the CC company will side with me if the shop has a problem with that. I was trying to avoid...

New dash pad from Cheyenne Pickup

I had a Coverlay cap glued to the original, I didn't care for it. Looked wavy and cheap, but it did cover up the cracks!

New dash pad from Cheyenne Pickup

I stressed over this purchase so much that words can't describe. Something so simple that just sits there and does nothing that costs so much, I wanted to make sure I got a good one. Among the few brands people recommend this one seemed like the best choice for me, and at $385 or so is priced...

    Intellitronix installed

Hey everybody I'm not a frequent poster but thought somebody might like to see this. Trying out these gauges as they'll work with the coming LS swap and the old 350 that's in there now. Paid about $270 new on Ebay which included the metric thread adapters for the LS swap. Turned out good I...

Ready to swap heads and cam

I'll see what I can do for video :) I'm pretty sure the powerband before was about 1500-2500 RPM, what a dog it was, and that's a pretty fresh engine! Now it rips pretty good (for being a mild old small block, nothing by today's standards but great for an old truck). Has no problem getting up...

Ready to swap heads and cam

Well I swapped everything over, the only thing I needed was more paint, but I made due. I haven't done cam swaps but a few times, but I've never in my life had one fire right up first try. Very nice :) Broke the cam in and took it for an easy drive, I have to say the combo runs great so far...
