SM465 to NP205 Coupler Sleeve Orientation

Forgot to thank you! This is how I installed it, and seems to work fine.

    Newbie needs your help

That is normal for that setup. There is no easy/cheap fix for lowering RPMs. You are either looking at swapping transmissions, or swapping axle gears, or a combination of both. The most straight forward transmission swap (i use that term loosely) would be to put in a NV4500 transmission...

    Red forced into DD duty

Nice. I don't have a tach, but she is pretty wide open on the interstate. I have a set of 3.54 dodge tons to put under it soon, and will be bumping up to a set of 35s at the same time. That should bring the RPMs down a little on the interstate. Lets drink beers and pretend to work on truck...

Is it possible? maybe new crossmember swap..

Be a little more specific. When I read your post, I had no idea what you were talking about. What truck do you have? What engine and transmission are you going to put in the truck? What are you trying to achieve with suspension modifications? I see the pictures you posted, but there is no...

    Clutch Recommendations

Figured I would give a quick update...Made a couple trips with the offroad toy in the past month. The new clutch in the suburban has plenty of grabbing power for towing. Didn't have any problems pulling the trailer. I have no baseline for comparison to a stock clutch, but I can confidently...

    Red forced into DD duty

80 mph is pretty good with a 465! My big block burb screams when I get to 70. I've got 3.73 gears right now. Where in Charlotte are you? I'm down near southpark(ish).

3/4 ton suburbans came with what axle ratios?

You might be best served to find an axle with with flat top knuckles so you can run crossover steering. I know that some dana 44s came with flat tops. Not sure if any of the 10 bolts came with flat tops from the factory, but you can swap flat tops onto a 10 bolt. This will allow you to keep...

    No problem. Good luck!

    Clutch help please

I had an issue bleeding my clutch slave the first time I did it. I tried to do it with it mounted to the bellhousing, like I've done it many times before on many other vehicles, but it would not evacuate all the air. After several attempts, an inordinate amount of time, and a lot of clutch...

    Major PS leak

This is not meant to be an insult, but check to make sure you didn't cross thread the connection. Everybody has cross-threaded something at some point. It happens. If not cross-threaded, definitely clean the fitting before re-connecting. I always put plumbers tape on threaded hydraulic fittings.

    Rear crossmember

^ What he said. I bought a set of motor mount frame brackets from Ray a while back. He is always scooping up parts or whole squares that are on their way to the boneyard.

    Power Steering Pump Leak

I intend to replace pump and box at some point anyway. But that doesn't help solve the reservoir overflow issue. The hoses are all good. That was the first thing I checked. The hydro boost unit is basically new. I replaced it and the brake master last year.

    Power Steering Pump Leak

1990 2500 Suburban 7.4L Hydroboost System Since I bought the truck a couple years ago, I have always had a minor leak coming from the steering box. I intend to replace it at some point, just have never gotten around to it. I am not too worried about that issue. I have also noticed that...

    Suburban Barn Doors for Sale

I have interest in both of them if they have working power door locks and defrost, and are dent-free. But I am scared to ask what it would cost to ship them to Charlotte, NC.

That will be a considerable difference. Its going to be like you're driving a whole different truck!

I am really looking forward to doing the swap. I don't think I'll get around to it for a few months though. I am currently running 33's, and will likely be jumping up to 35's when I put the new axles in.

    SM465 Vent/Breather Tube?

Actually, I found a picture. Not a great one, but the breather is on the left side of the top cover in front of the shifter tower.

    SM465 Vent/Breather Tube?

GEBs stuff is on point. His youtube channel was my best friend when I rebuilt my NP205. For what it is worth, the aluminum top covers on the later model SM465s have a more traditional style 90 degree elbow breather fitting. I didn't happen to take a picture before I reinstalled my...

Thanks for the compliments! Currently the truck has 3.73s in the rear (14 bolt full floater). To be honest, I have never checked the fuel mileage. Previous owner told me it was 9 regardless of towing or empty. I wouldn't doubt it. The previous owner put an 8-lug GM 10 bolt in the front...

Happy to finally be able to report that the verdict on the new clutch is :waytogo: It is MUCH more street friendly than my old clutch, but still seems to grab very well. I haven't pulled my trailer yet, but I am not anticipating any issues. Here are a couple pics, because lets face it, this...

    My 454 build

Awesome info guys. My motor rebuilding experience has been limited to top-end work. I have found myself wanting a little more out of this big hunk of metal and moving parts under the hood. Good to know that it will take way more than I would probably ever throw at it. rumblebox sorry for the...
