    31 gallon tank conversion pictures

It’s a wood framed flatbed. Yes I meant to mention that the stock box bed might be too low for this. Like I said in the “ can’t decide” thread, the tube on the tank clears the under side of my bed and goes level, like in the Suburban it came from, up to about 10” I guess from the last north...

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

No offense taken. It just occurred to me though that when you go to one big tank and a smaller tank, what’s probly gonna happen in real life is you use the big one most all the time except for long trips, and have the other one sitting there empty like a potential bomb. Because it’s the fumes...

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

Ok well I’m learning about chev is now. So you’re saying I can put a 4.3 in this 79 and get better mileage and 45 more hp? I had no idea.

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

No, the solenoid would not have to work exactly the same with any two tanks, because you wouldn’t need a solenoid. The fuel shutoff solenoids in diesels fail all the time, but a simple hand operated cable can substitute. I’ve done it in cummins 12 valves. Lots of guys have. I can find a...

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

You’re forgetting about the solenoid’s electrical features. Maybe not that difficult to install but troubleshooting things in the dark, beyond any sign of civilization, where the nearest AAA is 300 miles away, with the road turning into a snowdrift while its 30 below zero is something I try to...

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

I did a search and found on two sources that a 2002 Chevy 2500 4x4 with a 6.0 liter LS in it gets 11 mpg highway. About the same as my 79 3/4 ton 4x4 that has no overdrive, 4:10 gears, and 30” tires. So I’m at a total loss as to why I keep seeing reference to “ 40 year old gas sucking”...

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

The 40 gallon wouldn’t fit where I put my 31. But I’m pretty sure it would fit in the rear using the mounts it had in the burb. That’s much easier than what I did.

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

I am considering putting the good side tank in. It would really come in handy. I also like the tank to tank pump idea. To keep it simple.

    31 gallon tank conversion pictures

I took out my dual tanks and put this 75 Suburban tank in between the frame channels just behind the cab. A guy at the wrecking yard said I could put a 72 tank behind the seat but I can use that space for storage. The sending unit that was in the tank works fine with my gauge.

    79 c3500 sm465 to nv4500

I’ve got a NV4500 I’ve been thinking about putting in my 79 2500 and I’ve been reading up on options. I’m still undecided because I like my MS465. I’m thinking about getting a Gear Vendor overdrive instead. They bolt directly to the NP 205 T case, and I’d need to shorten the driveshaft but...

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

Ill see if I can get pictures posted from this phone but may need to wait until I get to my computer in town. Look at your cross members, I bolted 3/16 plate to the bottom of the hat, so to speak. The crossmembers are made of hat channel. My three plates each bolt to both sides ( both...

The EP381 is an in-tank pump? For the 90s Suburban?

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

I saw somewhere the rear center recommended but I hung my spare tire there with the little winch, so put it between the two crossmembers behind the cab. I’ll put up pictures in a few weeks. It’s kind of close but I glued some plastic and rubber here and there, ran the straps over the top...

Can’t decide on single or dual tanks

One of my dual tanks in my 79 K20 developed a rust leak while I had it out cleaning it up, replacing the sender. So I thought this would be a good time to swap both tanks for a single and I got a 31 gallon tank from a 75 Suburban. Both type senders should work with the gauge as both are 95...

    Truck left me stranded today.

Isn’t it possible to find an electric pump that can pull sufficient fuel high enough and far enough to service both tanks in a safe convenient location reliably regardless?

Does my 79 have a fuel filter in unit?

Ok, good to know, thanks. I’ve also got a 92 K20 Cheyene thanks very much. I did think about putting the filter in the return, or did you mean that to be a secondary filter? Becuz it seems like a good idea to have one after the pump. I’m not afraid of the plumbing but I like reliability and...

Does my 79 have a fuel filter in unit?

Like I said in my previous post, I’d only be capping off the port or ports that were not there from the factory. The added ports are just carrying fuel, not vapor, back to the tanks. If you read the above posts you’ll know the reason for doing it.

Does my 79 have a fuel filter in unit?

Thanks, the one I took out didn’t have rubber on it, Ill try to find one without rubber. But some online sources don’t provide much description.

Does my 79 have a fuel filter in unit?

Picture the stock fuel filter, Rusty Nail, if you can. it’s got two ports. One pipe port bringing fuel to it, and one square block threaded port to take the pipe going to the carb. That’s how mine has been from the factory 43 years ago. (I rarely send pictures because I only know how to do...

Does my 79 have a fuel filter in unit?

Thanks, that’s how I’m planning on doing it, all right, except there are two vapor lines already in place from two tanks up to the engine bay. Also I’m considering going to a single tank between the main rails, and am looking for info on how to do that or if there were any such things from the...

Does my 79 have a fuel filter in unit?

Wow, sounds like what I do when I can’t wait to try out a thing I’ve been working on. Once I forgot to replace a temporary oil pressure gauge plastic pipe, with copper pipe. Had 200 miles on my own long block rebuild and pulled off the highway so the machine shop could listen to my new engine...

Does my 79 have a fuel filter in unit?

THANKS, I appreciate the offer. I didn’t know that much fuel is returning from the fuel pump. Thought it was 99% fumes. If I cap off the return ports on the sending units, I also have to cap the pump port? How much pressure does that return have at the pump, the same as it has to the...
