    What Classic Insurance to get?

I've been with Hagerty for almost 17 years. I've talked to them on the phone and the rates are good. I asked the girl, "Why are the rates so reasonable?" She replied that people who have classic cars usually aren't a bunch of yahoos driving around like idiots. (However, there are some guys with...

    Start and Running Problems 1988 R20 5.7

Update (a year later) Situation got worse and the truck ran poorly, consistently. Braking was poor (as if the booster wasn't getting enough vacuum). I would have to put it in neutral and give it revs to prevent running into the back of someone. In previous replies, someone mentioned to not just...

    Start and Running Problems 1988 R20 5.7

I've read varying opinions on OBD1 and OBD2 systems. Will connecting an OBD2 scanner to a OBD1 vehicle via 12 pin and 16 pin cable adapter provide OBD2 type data from your OBD1 vehicle? Some people on-line say "Yea,"and others say "Nay." JUst thought I'd ask to help me make a decision about...

    Start and Running Problems 1988 R20 5.7

An update. I've checked the EGR valve. Holds vacuum. Took it out. Very limited carbon build up. Checked vacuum hoses. all seem to hold vacuum. Injectors seem to have a nice spray on them. Started up fine. Drove a block and it started to run rough. Stopped engine. Hard start and rough idle, then...

    Start and Running Problems 1988 R20 5.7

Thanks for the info. Bextreme04: Could you direct me to where I can find the emissions and drivability manual? I can't seem to see it.

The fuel pump is the original from the factory (1987).

    Start and Running Problems 1988 R20 5.7

Looking for some things I could look into which might solve this problem I am having. Have searched and found some threads but they sound a bit different than my situation. Previously, the truck would start with no problem but would run rough at low speed. If I drove it to the end of the block...

    Click no start

Once the rains stopped, I was able to install the starter. Checked and cleaned the grounds and the mounting surface on the block. I put a jumper from the battery right to the starter housing. No more click - engine spun and started. Repeated without the jumper and success. Thanks for your input.

    Need a turn signal socket

I had to replace both of mine as the ground tabs inside the socket broke off. The bulb has the two little nubs on them that are off set - one higher on the bulb and one near the bottom (a typical dual filament bulb as mentioned above) The grooves for the bulb nubs in the sockets I bought...

    Click no start

I have a 1988 R20 3/4 ton crew cab pick up. Used it for a few small trips a couple of weeks ago. After trying to start after the third stop it wouldn't start - just a repeated clicking noise from the starter. After a friend tapped the starter, it started. Got it parked, tried to start it...

Found replacement lines from a site called Linestogo.com. They have thousands of applications for all makes of vehicles. The lines I received looked the same as the originals. Delivered to my door in 4 days.

Starts fine then sometimes sounds like battery is dead

1988 R20 5.7L. Last fall the truck would start fine but sometimes would turn as if the battery was dying. It would start after a couple of tries. I figured starter and replaced that. Better, but eventually would start fine but on occasion do the slow drag start. In February, it wouldn't start...

    Replacing fuel lines 5.7 L

Upon further investigation, I can see the bracket that holds the lines and bolts into the engine. It's about 4 inches down behind the engine. There's not enough room to get a wrench on the nut. BUT, if I can get the transmission dipstick tube out, I should be able to get a wrench on the nut...

    Replacing fuel lines 5.7 L

Thanks for the suggestions. I checked with a large, local auto supply - no luck for replacements. Dealer - discontinued. I will try a hose company that may be able to make some for me. I'll investigate rubber hose.

    Replacing fuel lines 5.7 L

1988 R20 5.7 liter. I have noticed a gas leak from what I think is the return line from the TBI. It leaks when the engine is running. I think the leak is coming from where the hard steel line mates with the braided steel line. I thought I would replace both lines while I'm at it. Its hard to...

Hi, I've owned a 1988 R20 for over 30 years. I was on the Yahoo group for these trucks but Yahoo groups are now defunct. My truck has been quite reliable and has required the usual items for maintenance such as batteries , belts, brakes, starters, etc. I also own a 1947 Chevy 1/2 ton. My son...
