Ok thanks, that's what I'll do. To be honest, I'm kinda glad I have the 12 bolt with the higher gear ratio. These trucks were supposed to come with 4:11's or 4:56's. That’s what I thought too. But it’s installed on leaf spring rear suspension. And, if this helps, it has 5 main springs in the pack plus the overload spring for 6 total. They’re 2.5” wide and 2.2” thick. Isn’t that a 4x4 1/2 ton set up? It’s clearly not the factory unit, but I’ll get a better...- SeanV

Yes sir, that bottom picture is of the opposite side (drivers looking forward). It doesn’t have anything of the sort like that eyelet on the passenger side of housing. Do you need a better picture?- SeanV

It also has casting K13 8 on the driver’s side rear of the housing. You can see 123456789 under that weird eyelet. And GM 51 on the passenger side of the pinion section.- SeanV

George, thanks for the additional information. I think we’ve determined the truck has undergone a suspension swap in the recent past. Either something happened to the original rear end, or it was pirated for some reason. It was replaced with a 12-bolt truck rear. Not a bad rear end, just not... -

So the truck does have CPP drop spindles installed. AND, the calipers/pads they sent for what we thought was “stock C20 Suburban brakes” bolted right up and work fine. -

It does have a GM 12 bolt Truck axle under it. Correct me if I’m wrong, but were these square body C20/C30’s “supposed” to be equipped with the Corporate 14 bolt? -

That’s understandable. I was referring to the driving around aspect. My in-laws are not in great health so we make several trips per year to the south Atlanta area. Just cruising hauling nothing but a couple suitcases and snoring Bulldog it should do better. Feeding 6.0L vs 7.4L to push that... -

LOL....yes, very true. But when each power unit delivers the same amount of “twist” at the crankshaft, it’s the smaller unit that can do it with less fuel. Plus, those goddamn LS’s can take an insane amount of boost and still stay together. It’s crazy what they can do. -

I’m open to all suggestions. The rotors I have on now are the rotor/hub combination casting as opposed to the separate hub and separate rotor setup I’ve seen on other K10’s. -

Yeah that was my thought. The power is about equal, both engines pull like a train, but the 6.0L could do the same job mode efficiently. My plan was to pull out everything but the rear and insert it in the ’77. The dual front a/c (for the wife), the rear a/c (for the bulldog), those captains... -

That’s a fair argument. And I am a believer in vintage vehicle deserve vintage engines. Haven’t made the commitment to swap yet, just couldn’t pass up a 6.0L running driving Denali for $1600. Can always flip it needed. -

Thank you sir. With the exception of this brake issue I’m happy with it. Seems to be a fairly original truck with a repaint. Door jambs and tailgate seem original and the undercoating appears to have helped. Story I got was a retired Navy Chief used it to pull his RV in summer. Had a little rust...
