    ZZ502 w/ 6L80 swap

That's good to know, thanks. I can order the high-hump tunnel for a manual transmission truck and not have go "custom" to get it to fit if the problem comes up.

    ZZ502 w/ 6L80 swap

I'm sure that I'm the only one on the planet who has experienced that snowball effect sensation when it comes to your ideas and/or parts collection processes, so I'll explain how it happens. I planned to LS swap my '77 Suburban so I bought a running/driving 2005 Denali real cheap. After deciding...

    What is this????

Ok thanks, that's what I'll do. To be honest, I'm kinda glad I have the 12 bolt with the higher gear ratio. These trucks were supposed to come with 4:11's or 4:56's. I have a 3:42 rear end in this one. Takes a bit of punch out of the 454, but makes a little, stress "little," better mileage on...

    What is this????

So chances are, we’re looking at 12 bolt truck unit from the 70-72 era with a welder-up conversion to work on the rear of a leaf spring truck? So I guess my next question is: that rear is strong enough to do what I want, do I just add-a-leaf to bring my ride height and load capacity back up to...

    What is this????

And from a previous discussion with me trying to figure out how my 8 lug C20 Suburban ended up with 6 lug front disk brakes, we determined that for some reason, the previous owner installed CPP spindles on it to adapt the 71 6 lugs rotors on it. I theorized that rear 14 bolt was either robbed...

    What is this????

Ok, here’s a shot of the rear chunk as well as the driver side spring and shock mount Those welds don’t look factory to me.

    What is this????

That’s what I thought too. But it’s installed on leaf spring rear suspension. And, if this helps, it has 5 main springs in the pack plus the overload spring for 6 total. They’re 2.5” wide and 2.2” thick. Isn’t that a 4x4 1/2 ton set up? It’s clearly not the factory unit, but I’ll get a better...

    What is this????

Yes sir, that bottom picture is of the opposite side (drivers looking forward). It doesn’t have anything of the sort like that eyelet on the passenger side of housing. Do you need a better picture?
  9. SeanV

    What is this????

This is about the best one I have. Also one from the front look aft at the eyelet.

    What is this????

Even with just the one eye? Could that be where the panhard bar would’ve gone? I have more pictures if needed.

    What is this????

It also has casting K13 8 on the driver’s side rear of the housing. You can see 123456789 under that weird eyelet. And GM 51 on the passenger side of the pinion section.

    What is this????

Hey guys, need a little more help identifying what I’ve got. The truck is a 77 C20 Suburban that appears to have some of the stock suspension components taken off. The previous owner lowered the truck bu way of spindles and converted to 6 lug rotors. The rear end is a truck 12 bolt, but I’m...

    Which brakes are right

George, thanks for the additional information. I think we’ve determined the truck has undergone a suspension swap in the recent past. Either something happened to the original rear end, or it was pirated for some reason. It was replaced with a 12-bolt truck rear. Not a bad rear end, just not...

    Which brakes are right

I’ll have to take a look at the A-arms tomorrow in the light.

    Which brakes are right

Ok, from the sound of things, it looks like someone has been in there and changed suspension parts around. Being that it’s the lighter 7100 GVWR, it may or may not have had a 14-bolt rear? Is that correct? I know those axles are popular for the rock crawler crowd. Also, getting drums for a...

    Which brakes are right

So the truck does have CPP drop spindles installed. AND, the calipers/pads they sent for what we thought was “stock C20 Suburban brakes” bolted right up and work fine.

    Which brakes are right

It does have a GM 12 bolt Truck axle under it. Correct me if I’m wrong, but were these square body C20/C30’s “supposed” to be equipped with the Corporate 14 bolt?

    Which brakes are right

Very true. I sold a 72 chevy short/wide with an all iron Blueprint 496 in it. Very impressive engine.

    Which brakes are right

That’s understandable. I was referring to the driving around aspect. My in-laws are not in great health so we make several trips per year to the south Atlanta area. Just cruising hauling nothing but a couple suitcases and snoring Bulldog it should do better. Feeding 6.0L vs 7.4L to push that...

    Which brakes are right

LOL....yes, very true. But when each power unit delivers the same amount of “twist” at the crankshaft, it’s the smaller unit that can do it with less fuel. Plus, those goddamn LS’s can take an insane amount of boost and still stay together. It’s crazy what they can do.

    Which brakes are right

I’m open to all suggestions. The rotors I have on now are the rotor/hub combination casting as opposed to the separate hub and separate rotor setup I’ve seen on other K10’s.

    Which brakes are right

Yeah that was my thought. The power is about equal, both engines pull like a train, but the 6.0L could do the same job mode efficiently. My plan was to pull out everything but the rear and insert it in the ’77. The dual front a/c (for the wife), the rear a/c (for the bulldog), those captains...

    Which brakes are right

That’s a fair argument. And I am a believer in vintage vehicle deserve vintage engines. Haven’t made the commitment to swap yet, just couldn’t pass up a 6.0L running driving Denali for $1600. Can always flip it needed.

    Which brakes are right

Thank you sir. With the exception of this brake issue I’m happy with it. Seems to be a fairly original truck with a repaint. Door jambs and tailgate seem original and the undercoating appears to have helped. Story I got was a retired Navy Chief used it to pull his RV in summer. Had a little rust...
