4th small hole in late model clusters?

Yeah, I think they've been out of production for a couple years. I did a little research last night - sounds like the guy that made them died unexpectedly. :-( Even if I did sell my burb (highly unlikely) I think I'd keep that tach!

4th small hole in late model clusters?

I'm one of the lucky ones to have the aftermarket version of this tach that was produced by GM Sports - lucky because I believe it went out of production a few years ago. Love having the fuel gauge in with the tach. PO put a B&M trans temp gauge in the 4th hole - I didn't want to have to take...

4th small hole in late model clusters?

Here's what I'm talking about. There are three light socket holes and originally there were dividers between them - looks like provisions for three separate idiot lights in that hole? But I've never seen anything like that in the 4th hole - on any year square? My questions are...

4th small hole in late model clusters?

Was it ever used for anything in the late model squares? Or was it always blanked? The reason I ask is I have my cluster all taken apart right now and I noticed there are three holes for the typical light socket used for gauge lighting, turn signals, idiot lights, etc. And my cluster was...

What Year/Models Did These Gauge Clusters Originally Come In?

My '91 has the extra digit and so did my '90 parts rig. And I'm pretty sure my '89 K-5 did not have it, but that was 24 years ago. I think the extra digit coincides with the 1 mph increment marks on the speedo - pretty sure those were just in '90 and '91 as well.

    LS swap

You could always consider rebuilding the 350 you have or another cheap core motor. Options are numerous: stroke it to a 383, vortec or aluminum heads, roller cam, etc. If you go with a core, go with a late model TBI or even a Vortec 350 -- they still have the mechanical fuel pump bosses if...

Thoughts on going to a 4spd overdrive?

If you go with a 4L80e there's a "magic year" range for us square owners: '94 and I think '95. '91-'93 had this weird cleaning cycle for the force motor that the PCM controls. I'm not sure the aftermarket controllers can deal with this cycle - you'd have to do some research. And if you don't...

Found a lead on a used engine, couple questions

Actually, not that it matters in this application, but I think most or all vortec SBCs still had the mechanical fuel pump provisions. The one from a '97 3/4 ton burb I just took apart sure did. Also pretty sure that all the vortec-era SBCs were 4-bolt mains, too, but not 100% sure on that...

how hard is it to rebuild a 205 - what might be needed from a shop

Hope this isn't too much of a hijack, but I have the same question about my NP 243. the only reason I'm thinking rebuild is it's leaking and I don't think it's coming from any of the shaft seals since I've done those recently. I'm wondering if I could just split it open and reseal the halves...

    Starter Questions

All Delco starters were direct drive. AFAIK, GM didn't go to a gear reduction starter until late 90s. I have a '97 K2500 burb parts rig (350) and it even has a Delco direct drive, smaller than the older ones, though. (I think some rigs from this era did have gear redux starters, though) As...

    Starter Questions

I got lucky a few years ago and found a guy on CL selling some old Delcos. I got one of them from him - the high torque version from early 70s. Cast iron nose, no aluminum on the thing at all. I had to put a new solenoid on it and I think I replaced the brushes, but I'm thinking I may never...

    97 454 L29 Vortec into a 80 K25

Definitely following. I'll be interested in seeing how the 0411 conversion works out for you. I'm sticking with a TBI 7427 ECM for now, but if that ends up being too much of a pain I'll consider going the 0411 route. Apparently there's a guy on Gearhead EFI that's working on a setup to...

GMT 400 Hydroboost System in a Square?

Thanks! You've got similar plans to me, except my parts rig just has a 350. But I bought it for the late model 4L80e, and the harness/fuel injection setup. if I get really adventurous in a year or two I may try and swap over to the 97's SEFI setup. There's a way to convert the TBI computer...

GMT 400 Hydroboost System in a Square?

I'm parting out a '97 3/4 ton burb and it's got Hydroboost. Probably will just try to sell it, but just curious if it's possible to retrofit to my '91 Burb. Would the booster unit bolt to the firewall and connect to the pedal rod OK? And then for the pump - the '97 serpentine setup is...

What new tools have you got lately?

Yep that's the one! Thanks for the info and tips. I think I'll give it a shot now based on your experience with TH400. The '97 I'm parting out won't be an issue - I'm going out the front with engine and tranny. (core support just about removed) But eventually I'll need to put that tranny...

help me identify these 8 lugs

Thanks, is this the same stuff? I googled "clear coat stripper"..... https://www.autobodytoolmart.com/product/klean-strip-aircraft-non-methylene-chloride-paint-remover/klean-strip?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=free&utm_campaign=shopping&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIuJmW5djs6gIVAdbACh1lVAhpEAQYAiABEgLQLvD_BwE

help me identify these 8 lugs

Yeah, I've actually found some more markings on the wheels. There's an "AEWC" so we're definitely on the right track with them being Eagles. Also found a "580" somewhere. So the 058 is pretty close, but a google search of 058 Eagle wheels also brings up 589s so who knows. The plan to use...

What new tools have you got lately?

I just bought the cheaper HF transmission jack, but I haven't taken it out of the box yet. Anyone ever used one? I'm not so sure it's going to work well for a big 4L80e. I'm considering taking it back and buying a used motorcycle jack instead. Seems like most of those would work well for big...

help me identify these 8 lugs

Yeah, those look pretty close. I may start hunting around for one. The problem will be finding 16x8 with 8x6.5 bolt pattern. Any knowledge of the "CPC" marking that I'm seeing on the back? I've searched on that and I'm coming up with a CPC 580. Maybe connected with (or the same thing) as...

help me identify these 8 lugs

That is funny, sounds very familiar. Yep, pretty sure the steelie on mine was the spare, too. I bought mine at auction, sight unseen. When I picked it up I was excited because there was a tire in the back, thought it was going to be the fourth. Nope - no rim at all, just a tire. It's a...

help me identify these 8 lugs

The 3/4 ton '97 burb I recently bought for it's later 4L80e and various other parts has three (and only three) of these 8 lug, 8 hole, 16x8 rims that I kind of like and may want to use on my '91 burb. There are a few issues that need to be solved first though, like getting the fourth one. Any...

    383 Stroker Suburban MPG

Not so good, but I still have a lot of tuning to do with my modded up TBI. I think the best tank with the 383 is around 11 or 12, but I've had some single digit tanks, too. but again, it's been very little highway driving, with a lot of idling, tuning runs, Home Depot runs, dump runs with...

    '91 3/4T, 4x4 Burb Update

Sad to hear you sold it - you had done quite a bit with it. I was tempted to get rid of mine and go with a GMT400 454 ('96-'99) but I decided to just put some more effort into what I got. 411 PCM is a thought, it definitely seems to be a better way to go than the vortec black box. I've...
