Bummer about the Patriots - they look nice. I had some exhaust issues with the Vortecs on my Vette too. I used the original rams horn manifolds, but those manifolds have weird casting bumps that interfere with the valve cover placement on vortecs. I had to grind off the bumps to get the valve...

The Proto/Stanley socket came today, very impressed, made in the good ol' US of A! And it fits inside the Comp rocker with room to spare. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The pump came today. Just need to find time to do it now! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

fuel pump access panel TBI Suburban

Perfect, thanks! Helpful info on where to cut and how to re-secure. Didn't get to it this weekend. Hopefully next....

fuel pump access panel TBI Suburban

Thanks, all - just what I was looking for. The pump isn't supposed to show up till Monday, but if I have time I may cut the access and engineer the replacement panel this weekend. Got to install my pressure gauge and adapter on the fuel line at the throttle body, too.

fuel pump access panel TBI Suburban

Cool. When I do it I'll post pics. Wish I knew for sure where to start cutting though! Anyone? Anyone?

fuel pump access panel TBI Suburban

Has anyone done this? Any pitfalls I should know of? Is the pump right in the middle of the tank? My plan is to bolt on two pieces of angle iron for a support and then weld on nuts on the bottom of those angles to allow big round head slotted screws to secure the cut out panel. Then I'd...

    Electronic/HEI conversion

One of the 100 or so nameless vendors on eBay. They all offer pretty much the same piece AFAIK. This was more than 10 years ago though.

    Electronic/HEI conversion

The wiring connectors were horrible. In particular the main one that plugs into the underside of the cap (primary wiring to the coil). Other than that, I guess it was OK, except that the module it came with fried pretty quickly. It just wasn't a well made piece and I never trusted it.

In the process of buying a Walbro GCA710-2 fuel pump now, direct from Walbro's distributor. They price matched Amazon and regular shipping was still free so win win. (It will probably take longer than Amazon, but I'm in no hurry) I've also purchased a fuel pressure gauge and fuel line adapter...

Thanks. I've got the Stanley one in my cart on Amazon now! Interesting, the picture of the Stanley shows "Proto Professional" on the side, I think Proto was one of the top names in American tools some time ago? I didn't know Stanley bought them, at least I'm assuming that's what happened...

    Electronic/HEI conversion

Second both of these points. (No pun intended) I've had two or three distributors in my 76 vette in the 15+ years I've owned it but the best one was the original Delco I bought it with - after I rebuilt it. Still in there now and no problems. I had all kinds of problems with the billet...

    383 Vortec/TBI Build Thread

Thanks for the input! I've never used the Comp cams rockers, but I've used the PRW ones that are very similar if not identical and had similar problems. Mine even had the poly-locks and I still had some issues. I think I used a 3/8 socket but I had to grind the outer diameter down a bit for...

Thanks. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to go with some kind of regulator other than the one on the TBI now. Dang - those Aeromotive ones are not cheap. Although I am thinking about seeing if I can go through the process that this guy did: TBI Mods/ In other news, I called...

    383 Vortec/TBI Build Thread

How did you determine GCA710-2 was the correct pump to use? I googled specs for it and came back with a pressure of 43 psi - seems way too high for TBI??? Did you do anything with the chip or computer? The way I understand it is if pressure is changed much from 13 psi-ish stock, need a new...

Thanks! I should have remembered to check your thread - I've seen it a few times and will definitely be accessing it when I tackle this job. Do you guys think this Amazon listing is legit? It looks just like the pic on the Summit page, but don't want to take any chances. I guess I could...

Possibly as you were posting this I was visiting the Walbro site and saw that same message. I'd be glad to buy directly from them, but I cannot figure out which 190 pump to buy and really can't even find any buttons to buy any 190 pumps at all. Their website leaves a little to be desired. I...

TBI Distributor Recommendations for Roller Cam

Yep, they'll all be either Delco or Delphi, which I think were used pretty frequently for OEM, too. Just got the Delphi magnetic pick up delivered today - looks pretty high quality although it is Hecho en Mexico, but at least it's not Hecho en China!

Ah thanks, Walbro is the brand I was trying to remember. I was thinking Wells, but it was definitely Walbro in the posts I read. Yeah, pretty sure you're right - '94 the BBC TBIs switched to something like 30 psi or so. I'm staying away from all that stuff, the injectors I bought are 90-93...

TBI Distributor Recommendations for Roller Cam

TBI distributors are a bit different than the carb HEI units. There's no vacuum can or mechanical advance - all the advance is done with the computer. So if I can keep that gear at the bottom (pretty sure I can, see above) it should be pretty simple/low buck to rebuild: magnetic pickup coil...

TBI Distributor Recommendations for Roller Cam

Thanks - helpful piece of advice. I cross-referenced a 1989 Caprice with 5.7 with my 1991 V2500 suburban with 5.7 on RockAuto and it came up with the exact same list of available distributors! So I think this tells me GM used the same dist regardless of whether it was roller or flat tappet...

TBI Distributor Recommendations for Roller Cam

Starting a separate thread for some distributor questions. I need a reliable distributor that will go in my roller cam 383 that I'm building. I have two stock TBI distributors, one that came from my '90 parts Burb and the other that's in operation in my '91 now. Should I rebuild one of them...

    383 Vortec/TBI Build Thread

I think I've seen those recommendations too but from a physics standpoint not sure they make sense. If pressure stays the same, and no other variables change such as pipe cross section and material, bends, etc. then flow rate would also stay the same. Maybe it's a duty cycle thing, though? At...
