    CUCV vs civilian model differences?

I worked for the first company (Stewart & Stevenson) that built the FMTV family of vehicles and it, too, had the 12/24 volt system. I don't know who's dual voltage alternator Chevy put on the CUCV, should be a tag on it, but if yours is the same one the FMTV had and it ever fails, you'd best...

    Bracket

Actually C10MixMaster, I looked at the options list that is in the glove compartment, and I did order it with the high speed tail light gear option. You could be right, now I just need to find those high speed tail light gears.:33:

    Bracket

Yes, I removed it so long ago that I forgot where it went. Bucket mentioned it might go under the dash, so I could be the mount for the clutch switch as my truck is a manual transmission.

    Brake light switch mounting

Restoring a 1974 K10. Am wiring it now, and when I went to put the brake light switch on, I realized that the switch activate button wasn't even close to contacting the brake pedal lever. It's been so long since I took the truck apart, I can't remember how the switch got activated. Is there...

    Steering wheel installation

Looks like it might be pretty easy to make, but does anybody already make it. Thx.

    Steering wheel installation

I'm currently restoring a 1974 K10 and want to put a later model steering wheel in it. I seem to remember reading somewhere a while back that you need to install a wire pigtail to somehow to make it work. Anybody ever done this, and what does it involve. Thx a lot for any help.

Converting a TBI coil to a cylindrical coil

I am using the TBI distributor off the 1995 truck, which had a new module in it. I want to use the old style coil and understand what chengy is telling me. It sounds like if I attach the two pink wires (one of which has the proper resistance in it) from the harness (mated connector) off the 95...

Converting a TBI coil to a cylindrical coil

I am currently putting a TBI unit off a 1995 Chevy pickup on a 1974 Chevy pickup. I would like to use an old style cylindrical coil instead of the TBI coil. Does anyone have any experience doing this, and if so, how do you wire it.

    Rear brake line help

Maybe try cutting the brake line right at the fitting, then use an Easy Out to get the fitting out.

    EFI Swap...I need advice

I'm currently doing the same thing to my (actually my grandson's) 1974 K10. I've adapted a Throttle Body injection off a 1995 Chevy pick-up to the 350 (actually 355). Instead of buying an adapter to make it fit the manifold, I made one out of 1/4 inch think Aluminum plate. I, too, built my own...

    Let's talk oil

I've used nothing but Wal Mart oil for years and never had a problem. I understand it's made by Warren Performance Products, which bought Quaker State. I change my oil and filter every 3000 miles, which is probably ridiculous, but always have. I used Wal Mart filters, too, until I found them...

    vortec heads on 350

For what you say you use the truck for, I'm a firm believer in "there's no substitute for cubic inches". I'd go with the big block, and build it wisely, i. e. fairly low compression ratio, low end cam, etc, etc, so you don't have to carry a chemistry set around with you to avoid knock. I...

    Reverse light issue

Now would be a good time to put a new fuse box in, and get rid of the old glass type fuses, which I assume it has, and use the newer style ATO fuses. Look at place like Painless Wiring, Ron Francis, Hot Rod Wires, etc. Or, you could build your own fuse box with components bought off the internet.

    Let's debate it ...oil pumps

IMO, high volume is the way to go. I think the ole 10 psi per 1000 revs is a good rule of thumb. Hi volume moves more oil across the bearings and other oiled items, moving more heat away. An oil pump generating hi pressure requires more power to turn, which in turn makes more heat, so, IMO...

    6.2 Easy?

For what it's worth, my suggestion is to convert to manual transmission and use a Muncie SM465, with granny first gear. Have one in the 1974 K10 I'm restoring and it's been a dandy. Too, the SM420 is also good.

Frame crack on 75 K20 passenger side front by shock. Every seen crack like this??

Wow, looks like a mud dobber did some welding on your frame. I'm restoring a 74 K10 which had the usual frame cracks around the steering box mounting area. TIG welded the cracks the MIG welded plates all around that area to stiffen it up. No problem, and I'm not a mud dobber.

How many of you Crayon eaters know what this tool is???

Have several pair. Used them back in the late 60s and early 70s, and still do today, when I was involved in road racing, building engines and cars for others and racing our own. Was involved in the now defunct Formula 5000 series. Safety wired most everything together.

    Ratcheting Wrenches

Had to return a 1/4 inch Craftsman ratchet, and was given a rebuilt one instead of a new one. No problem, still works as good as a new one.

    Reverse light power...

Find the wire that's hot at the light wiring harness at the back of the truck when the vehicle is in reverse, and tap into it. You might want to consider using a relay that the hop wire activates, to send the signal to the light bar.
