I am currently restoring a 1974 Chevy K10 and am putting a TBI unit from an 87 Chevy pickup. My engine is just a mild street engine with a mild street cam, headers, nothing special heads, a TBI intake manifold, and a 1227747 ECM. Can anybody help me with which prom chip to use and can anybody...

    Wiring harness options

I'm currently restoring a 1974 K10 which I'm converting from a carburetor to TBI. I have built my own harness by using new wire and connectors and also cleaning up and using some of the original harness. Much cheaper than paying 300 to 500 hundred bucks or more for a new one.

    New wiring harness difficulty

First thing you need to do is get on the internet, i. e., Google and find a wiring schematic for the entire truck. You will probably get lots and lots of hits. Then watch lots of YouTube videos. You'll find plenty of them. Watch them, buy some electrical testing equipment, and go to work...

    Headlights go on and off

The circuit breaker for the headlights is on the switch. Maybe it's worn out which may be why the headlights go off and on. I'd try a new headlight switch, or at least check the one that's on it.

    Wiring Harness journal

Looks like a barrel full of muli-colored snakes. Best of luck.

    NP203 to NP208 swap?

I think an NP205 will swap directly with the NP203 if you can find one. I'm currently restoring a 1974 K10 that I bought in 1974 with a Muncie SM465 and an NP205 T case.

    Brake line, opinions needed.

Like the one answer, buy copper/nickel tubing, a decent double flaring tool and bender from Eastwood or the internet, and go for it. YouTube has lots of good videos on doing this yourself. And, yes, either replace all your brake lines, or, at least inspect the ones you don't replace.

Does anybody have a source or a gm part number for the intermediate shaft coupling sealL

    Steering shaft intermediate coupling

I have a 1974 Chevy K10 and am trying to find the seal for the intermediate shaft coupling. Anybody know where I can find one?

Anybody see one of these before? Little Max

I used to have one similar to this one. As I recall it came with the equipment so that you could actually weld with it, too.

    What are these?

Took my 74 K10 apart years ago to restore. Getting close to be finished and found these in the parts box. Anybody have any ides what they are and where they go?

    Sm465 knocking while in reverse

I put a Muncie M20 in a 55 Chevy years ago and had a clicking in first gear. Turned out to be a chipped tooth in first gear. Just some food for thought. Too, if your new one piece drive shaft is longer than 72 inches it's too long. I assume your truck is a long wheel base. If so, that's why...

    SAE or synthetic

I'm certainly no motor oil expert, but, to me 5W means 5W, as in 5W-30, and knowing what those number mean, is pretty thin, regardless of whether it's conventional or synthetic. I'll continue to throw away conventional oil every 3000 miles.

    SAE or synthetic

Supertech oil is made by Warren Oil Co., and is considered one of the best oils available today. For some reason Wal Mart quit selling a conventional oil. It's now either a synthetic blend or full synthetic. I, personally, don't use synthetic oil, as I change oil and filter every 3000 miles...

    Wiring 'factory' gauges 'directly'???

In my opinion, a Volt Meter is easier to wire, as a Ammeter usually needs at least 12 and maybe 10 gauge wire to mount it unless it's a shunted Ammeter.

    Wiring 'factory' gauges 'directly'???

I used all Autometer Pro Comp liquid filled 2 5/8 inch gauges and the 5 inch tach and speedometer. By the way, if anybody is interested, I have the original speedometer and fuel gauge (center mount) I'll sell for $75.00 for both. LMC gets $150.00 for both. Let me know if anybody is interested...

    Wiring 'factory' gauges 'directly'???

Actually, the one I built (see picture above) will have two Deutsch connectors to disconnect the gauge wiring Shouldn't be all that difficult if designed right.

    Wiring 'factory' gauges 'directly'???

Actually, the one I built (see picture above) will have two Deutsch connectors to disconnect the gauge wiring, no more difficult than removing the original gauge panes. Shouldn't be all that difficult if designed right.

    Wiring 'factory' gauges 'directly'???

I'm restoring a 1974 K10 and built my own gauge panel out of Aluminum sheet and put Autometer gauges in it. My 74 originally had printed circuits, which I'd bet your 75 did, too. I don't recall if the original gauges had the capability of being wired directly. The oil pressure gauge was...

How much HP and Torque for Daily Driver

I agree with the big block suggestion. There's no substitute for cubic inches. I'd use a low end cam with the big block for lots of low end torque. That should help you pass everything but the gas stations. Keep that credit card handy.

no power to anything in cab

Sounds like you found the problem, but what a lot of people don't realize is that the head and tail lights are controlled by an automatic reset circuit breaker in the switch itself. The reason being is that if you have a short or something else that trips the circuit breaker and turns your...

Dual tank switch kills the engine

I believe you said your truck DOES NOT have EFI, so the fuel pumps probably aren't in the tanks. I'd check the solenoid valve that switches the tanks to be sure it's shifting the flow to the passenger side tank. However, if that's the problem the truck probably wouldn't die "INSTANTLY" and...

    Best Cordless Tools?

I have all DeWalt 20V cordless tools which I love. Some are very old, and I had to use DeWalt's battery converter to convert the old style 18V to the new style 20V batteries, and they still work great. I do use some corded tools for when I'm doing something that requires lots of use, i. e...

    2ND Aluminum Radiator Rotting out

I don' know what brand of antifreeze you are using, but I use Wal Mart brand. It's my understanding that their blue bottle antifreeze, the 100% antifreeze, is made by the company that makes Prestone and their white bottle antifreeze, the premixed 50/50, is made by the company that makes Peak...
