    HEI distrib problem under load

I figured out the problem. The hot wire to the distributor was arcing inside the connector when the motor would try to turn on the motor mounts under load. Thanks for your guys' help

May try swapping those soon. Not sure what else to try

    HEI distrib problem under load

This is an Accel aftermarket distributor, any idea if I can put a standard GM coil and ignition module in it?

    HEI distrib problem under load

Yeah the weights move around okay. Nothing looks burned or broken visually with the coil. I looked fuel up and down yesterday, pressure and flow tested pump, put on a different carb. Engine holds steady 20 pounds of vacuum too

    HEI distrib problem under load

Got the top off and attached a couple photos. The inside of the rotor is full of this red powder and a bit of metal shavings. On my advance weights I've got a spot rubbed shiny at the 7 o'clock position. Any idea what's goin' on here?

    HEI distrib problem under load

Thanks a lot AuroraGirl I'm about to go out and monkey with it, will reference those photos. The problem is definitely more severe than just running on 7 cylinders from a bad plug or wire. It's erratic but sometimes it loses ignition completely for a second, then gas will build up in the exhaust...

    HEI distrib problem under load

I've kind of got a hunch that vacuum advanced is involved since that's the only way my distributor cares about load as far as I can see.

    HEI distrib problem under load

My distributor would have more than 2 connections if it had ESC aye? I've just got power and tach plug-ins. I ran a wire direct from the battery to the distributor today also to test that, it's getting good power. It's kind of a Frankenstein engine, 1977 block covered in bolt-ons.

    HEI distrib problem under load

Hey guys, I've got a carb'd 305, was running good for years but I've got a stumbling/hesitating/dying problem only when the engine is under load starting today. Narrowed it down all afternoon to something inside my hei distributor. Do you guys know of something inside there that would cause that...

Wire coming out of rear shocks

Hey all, thanks for the replies. I followed them and they come together at a schrader valve under the floor of the cab. The valve is stuck, can't get a pressure read on it. Found one of my spring hangers rotted from the inside out at the same time, kinda sucks lol. Scraped out a pound of crap...

Wire coming out of rear shocks

Ohhhhh it is an air line lol. I forgot that was a thing for shocks. Interesting I'll have to see if I can find where they go to, thanks. One more quick question, any idea if something like this would be stock to the truck?

Wire coming out of rear shocks

Hello. I have an 86 k10 that has one electric wire coming out of each rear shock absorber going forward towards the cab. Anyone know what this does? Google has no idea what I'm talking about. Thanks appreciate it

    700r4 TV cable adjustment check

Good stuff thanks. To be honest if I knew it was going to be all this stressing to get the trans adjusted right when I started this project I would have tried a lot harder to fix it's q-jet, that's my word of advice to people reading this later lol. At least if you're a regular joe trying to get...

    700r4 TV cable adjustment check

@Sublime I don't feel comfortable recommending you numbers with how janky my adjustment procedure was and how uneducated I am about them lol. This other Matt seems like the guy to ask @Matt69olds It is original to the truck but the truck is new to me. I did keep in mind that preference for...

    700r4 TV cable adjustment check

Thanks for the advice. I've got a redneck operation here, no pressure gauge and GM built the transmission 35 years ago heh. I think I've got it pretty dang close after some adjustment, I drove a 700r4 in a Camaro for near a decade now and just went down the road a bit in the truck pulling over...

    Ford Trash Talk Thread lol

I sold this POS 2 weeks ago, is a '95 with the 300 straight 6 and mazda 5 speed gearbox, 1 tire fire. Don't let how photogenic it is fool you, it's a son of a bitch. Had a factory alarm system buried in the dash that would make it no crank whenever it felt like, big round seatbelt bolts with...

    700r4 TV cable adjustment check

Hello. I put a new carb on recently, got the proper mounting and geometry bracket and I'm setting the TV cable. I watched a decent amount of videos but I'd hate to burn up my trans so I thought I'd ask, I've got it set so that max throw of the TV cable is set to maximum throttle which seems like...

Inline fuse in place of fusible link @ junction block pops 40amp fuses

I figured it out, it was the alternator charge wire popping it, the original link must have been able to take more than 40amps

Inline fuse in place of fusible link @ junction block pops 40amp fuses

I did climb in with a ladder, the wire with the fuse holder goes to a rubber boot on the alternator and into the bulkhead connector. It's the wire with my finger on it in the photo

Inline fuse in place of fusible link @ junction block pops 40amp fuses

Easier said than done lol, do you guys climb in the engine bay with a step ladder to reach this stuff?

Inline fuse in place of fusible link @ junction block pops 40amp fuses

Hello. Got this '86 305 truck a couple weeks ago and am sorting through its problems. I've got 2 wires coming off the junction box near the master cylinder, both with home made splices on them. One is a constant power wire coming from the loom behind the engine, hooked to starter I think. The...

New truck, trying to understand its molestation - carb/intake

OP here, still have to button things up but I've joined the Holley hivemind. Had some initial problems but it runs good now. Gave the truck a neanderthal vacuum lobotomy at the same time, converter may not lock up but that's a problem for warmer weather.

New (to me) carb, way way too rich

I just came back inside from trying it out, works mint with that plate installed. I do have a power valve cavity on the secondary in both carbs, the manifold vac port on them is just filled up. Never occurred to me a piece was missing, guess I learned a lesson to look at an exploded view. Thanks

New (to me) carb, way way too rich

No luck finding any problem with the power valve, I was taking apart a matching carb though and noticed my first one is missing a piece. A thin sheet metal backing to the metering plate
