    Manual to auto conversion

So, getting back to the title of the post, how hard is it to switch from manual to automatic? What components would be needed to get from the donor vehicle to do the swap? I once did a SM465 (mine) to a TH400 (other guys) by pulling trucks side by side. Had to swap radiator, speedo gear, pedals...

    Posi-limited slip-tru trac!

'86 should be 28-spline. I think the 30-spline started in '89. IIRC. Some say late '88 model could have the 30's but mainly '89. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

    Rental trailers

Since the topic of tow bars came up I need to relate a story that touched close to home. Decades ago my wife and I had two foster children who were adopted to a family who lost their son. Situation was their son was traveling home with his aunt at night. A Penske truck was traveling the...

    Rental trailers

Wow! You mean your U-Haul stores don't rent actual car trailers? Here in Ohio they do. I realize your not in Ohio but it's hard to see how they can only rent such small trailers in CA.

Rebuild an engine in the truck

Local rentals usually rent hoists. You could probably find a friend with an engine stand if you try. You could even Facebook to see if someone will loan you a stand. Have you tried putting some ATF (or some kind of "break free solvent" in the cylinders overnight to free up pistons? A long...

Power REAR WINDOW, Suburban Tailgate & Blazer Troubleshooting

Same thing here. My son pulled it out (on '88, located on left, upper edge, inside tailgate...get that?), cleaned the terminals, reinstalled and window works great again!

    Wanted: 1977 GM 14-Bolt Hub

Turns out Dorman makes studs with over size knurled sections for just such events. Will get back with part numbers as soon as I'm sure the numbers I've looked up are correct.

    Power window only goes up

I have to take it the vehicle your talking about is the '85 K10/350. The wires commonly break in the section between the door and the body. That's the point where they flex every time you open and close the door. As the wires get old they become brittle and break. You can unplug the wires from...

    700r4 rebuild time, advice?

$3400? Whhhhaaaaattt? Seriously? Damn! Mine is in need of a rebuild and no way do I have the change to pay that kind of money nor am I capable of rebuilding it myself. Not trying to hijack thread but can you provide more information about the NV4500 swap? Are they reliable enough to trust...

School me on intake manifolds and headers

Easy way to find out is to turn the air cleaner lid upside down. That will give you enough additional air to see if you can tell the difference. If so, you may want to go open element. If not, no reason to waste the money, IMO.

    Hood ornaments

My '88 K5 has one that will be coming off when it goes in for it's new paint! Never understood the reason for thm or the attraction to them. I definitely think the hoods look better without but opinions will, of course, vary. Each to his own. Nothing to add as to the years they were installed...

Question for you out there that have run a 292 in a truck

I had a '77 K20 with 292 that was an absolute torgue monster and got incredible gas mileage. Only thing was it was SOOOO slow starting out. Had a 465 with 4:56 gears (GM posi units) and it would go anywhere I wanted on the farm and in the woods/mud. Before "computer" became a household word my...
