    Shorty BB Headers??

Shorty's are essentially nice sounding exhaust manifolds. The power and torque improvements aren't there. I pulled mine off and went with some Ceramic Coated long tube headers from Summit.

    Wooden bed

Once the wood has cupped, the only way to remove it is to joint the high side and plane the other side. But you end up with wood that is too thin for your bed. To avoid cupping, assuming the wood is flat to begin with, you MUST put the same number of clear coats on BOTH sides. If you don't, the...

    Replacing fenders

I purchased a '74 about 5 years ago. It had some rust in the usual places and what appeared to be a replaced door and fender. I ordered an inner fender and a core support from LMC. Holes didn't line up and had a number of fitment issues... thin as tissue paper. The core support had the wrong...

    BBC Header gaskets

I have used a number of different brands over the years. Some lasted a year or so and others just a few weeks. Then my carburetor guy who races a 9 sec '64 Chevelle, turned me on to Remflex and I have never used any other brand. They are thicker and once torqued down (20fp IIRC) you never have...

    Vinyl Wrapped Gauge Bezel

Yeah, I tried a $995 set of NVU New Vintage Gauges and ended up sending the crap back to Summit. The Speedhut's have been amazing. Night and Day compared to the NVU stuff and saved some money too! Great communication, whereas NVU was really poor and that's being kind. The Speedhut's are...

    Vinyl Wrapped Gauge Bezel

Thanks! It was a crying shame I couldn't use the bezel. After doing a down and dirty mod to my virgin OEM to get the truck out of the shop, I am still giving serious thought to finding another '73-'74 and dipping it.

    Vinyl Wrapped Gauge Bezel

Can't really say anything about vinyl wrap, but the water transfer gets as many coats of clear as you want to put on. . . gloss or matte your choice.

    Vinyl Wrapped Gauge Bezel

I hydro dipped my replacement bezel, not wanting to butcher my nice OED, while my project was in the shop getting new electrical. Turned out great. Then, I found out it was an earlier model and wouldn't work with my Washer Switch or Headlight Switch! I had laser cut custom inserts for all the...

    Header Installation

We did. We were not using full length headers though. We used Hedman Ceramic Coated Block Huggers.

    6.0 Header Bolts

In my '74 C20 build project, I used the gaskets that came with my Hedman Ceramic Coated Hedders. My high nickel content 350 4BM was punched out .030 to 355. Less than 100 miles later I blew out huge sections of the gasket surface. I chatted with a buddy who runs sub-10's in his '64 Chevelle and...

    Building Gauge Cluster

My '74 build is currently in paint. I started with NuVue gauges and sent them back. I replaced them with Speedhut gauges made to order. Saved money as well as getting a better product. I customized a couple of dash bezels (long story... starts here in my build thread...

Headman headers from headman or jegs?

I got a set of Hedman's for my '74 project. The ceramic coating is already pitting and corroding after way, way less than 5K miles. Called Hedman and they said if I wanted them recoated I had to pay shipping both ways and they would decide if the coating failed. Not good CS. I was advised that...

    73-87 doors

When I was looking for replacement doors, I was also told that the '77 and up didn't have the same curvature as the '73-'76. Could have been a bad rumor, but I didn't want to take the chance and passed on some good '77s.

    Done with 700R4

Are you sure it's not the shop that's the issue? I had mine rebuilt from a core with all the good parts where they needed to be. Runs like a swiss watch. If I get on it, it kicks gears nice and hard with my 3:73's. A soft shoe on the go peddle and it cruises through the gears smooth but firm. I...

    Tip for parts search

Yeah, I love it when you want something like a door handle retaining clip, etc. and they need to know the size engine and the transmission version in order to locate the part. Same thing happens for most of the online suppliers. . .

    Giving into my wallet

The RPM's right where I would expect it to be at 65. I barely sneak up on 2K at 70. That's water temp after cooling the engine and trans. Depending on time of the year and driving (city vs. highway), it's 180 - 200. I typically don't drive more than 3,000 mile a year, especially at 8 MPG.

    Giving into my wallet

4WDKC, I tach around 1850 at 60-65. I am running just under 200 degrees on the temp gauge cooling all fluids. Trans fluid is bright. Shifts are firm in all gears. OD comes in around 45 unless I stand on it a tad.

    Giving into my wallet

I have a '74 Square C20. It had an OEM 350/350 combination and a TransGo kit when I bought it. It runs 3:73 gears. I drive mostly highway. The OEM 350 was replaced with a pro built 355 SBC, mild cam, Heddman Headers, Edelbrock 650, and Edelbrock Air Gap manifold. The TH350 was replaced with a...

    Headers

I installed Heddman Ceramic Coated Shorties on my '74 C20 Build. Gaskets blew out in just a few days. Installed Remflex Gaskets. By far the best you can get. One-and-done. No re-torque. http://catalog.remflex.com/category_s/75.htm Replace the Heddman stock crap bolts that rust (see photos)...
