Difference between stock air cleaner and aftermarket?

The rule of thumb with the average V-8 is 1 hp for every 10 degree (F) drop in intake air temp. That works out to about 1% for 30 degrees. Source https://www.physicsforums.com/threads/hp-gains-from-colder-air.489172/ See here for "ram air". http://wallaceracing.com/ram-air-calc.php All that...

What does a automotive thermostat do?

On the street I run the one that is OEM. The water and oil need to be heated to a certain temperature to function properly. Remember the thermostat does NOT control the high temperature, only the low. If a motor runs at 200F without a thermostat, it will run at 200F with a 160F 180F, 195F...

What does a automotive thermostat do?

I agree with all you are saying. I might have worded it poorly. The most important thing I was trying to say is has no control over the coolant's high temperature once it had opened.

What does a automotive thermostat do?

We would takes the guts out of a thermostat and use just the flat section with the hole in it for our racecars. That plate would serve as the proper restriction. A thermostat has no control over engine overheating. It just controls the minimum temperature. See my original post.

    at sea level........

Just remember that all specifications like timing and jetting are given at sea level. Didn't care when I lived on the east coast at elevation of 375 feet. Didn't even know it was an issue. Now living at 4500 feet, it makes a difference. Thinner air. Timing and suggested jetting might need to...

What does a automotive thermostat do?

I say it is a device that determines if the coolant in the motor is routed through the radiator or not and will bring the coolant to operating temperature. Once it does that, its job is done. Should the coolant temperature drop below the rating of the thermostat, it wakes up and by routing the...

Other than the left side fuel fill hole, what is the difference between the two beds? I'm thinking of removing a right side section of an old bed around the fill hole , and welding it into my current bed on the left side. Comments???

    Time for a new radiator

In all of our Corvette road race cars we took out the thermostat, ripped the guts out, put back the stripped piece as a restrictor, took off the fan, removed the fan shroud and ran about 210F for hours. Never had a problem with any of them in any outside temperature. Nothing to open and close...

    Time for a new radiator

Any engine can overheat with any thermostat. If an engine wants to overheat it will. A thermostat regulates minimum temperature not maximum.

    Bad vacuum module?

Had a 1965 Buick Wildcat once. Started smoking thru exhaust like crazy. Wouldn't shift. Evidently The modulator took a shit and the engine started sucking AT fluid to the engine via the vacuum hose.
