    Antenna mystery - 88 Suburban

Thanks for checking. Unfortunately, I saw that too. I wish they carried it. I assume that, because it was only used in the final years of the square (Suburban and Blazer only) it is not a super-high-demand item.

    Antenna mystery - 88 Suburban

Thanks for all the responses. I have searched all over and cannot find the correct replacement part. Before I try to modify something else, I think I will try to drill/tap the exposed end and use some all-thread in the correct thread pitch for the OEM antenna mast (does anyone happen to know...

    Antenna mystery - 88 Suburban

Thanks for the responses, guys. I appreciate it. I have looked on LMC truck, and it looks like the part I need is blanked out (see pic below). Does anyone know of another vendor that might offer it? Alternatively, do you think a new threaded stud could be tacked into the remaining “nub”? This...

    Antenna mystery - 88 Suburban

I need someone to help me decipher what I have, what is broken, and what is required to fix it properly. The pics below show what is currently on my square. The hex piece is just pressed on to the knurled “nub” that protrudes from the fender. It looks like something was originally threaded, but...

    Does anyone recognize these?

Closing the loop here, bucket was 100% correct. I ended up using an “add-a-fuse” tap on the “horn” fuse to get constant 12v power. Everything else was plug (er… solder) and play.

    Does anyone recognize these?

I am trying to order a RetroSound radio for my 88 Suburban. Does anyone know: (A) which retrosound bezel fits this opening; and, (B) which Metra (or other brand) harness adapter fits these connectors? Thanks in advance. Pics are below.

    Let's talk vehicle security...

Ha! Funny you say that. My daily driver is a manual Golf R. I generally leave it unlocked because I feel like the stick makes it pretty theft-proof.

    Let's talk vehicle security...

Fair point. =) If anyone wants to send me a private message, I promise I am not a car thief (I know… that is exactly what a car thief would say). Maybe we can speak in general terms about whicb wires are effective and what type of switches seem to work best for this application?

    Let's talk vehicle security...

Vehicle thefts are on the rise in my area. Unfortunately, these old GM ignitions aren't known for being very thief-resistant. Has anyone installed a discrete ignition or fuel pump cut-off switch? If so, what is the least-intrusive method for tapping those circuits, but still allow for easy...

Fix Slamming Doors - Striker Door Latch Repair

Great thread. 1/2” Pex just changed my hard slamminy 88 Suburban doors to single finger closing. It is pretty shocking how big a difference a tiny piece of plastic makes. Thanks.

88 1/2ton Suburban - front wheel bearing question

I am looking to rebuild the front hubs/brakes on my 88 suburban. LMC offers all the bearings I need, but does not disclose the brands they use. I am reluctant to buy an unidentified bearing as I know from experience that quality can vary quite a bit. Does anyone kow what they use? Is it...

TBI needs valve seals and intake gasket - fix what I have or upgrade?

Bextreme04, that is where my head is as well. I suspect my heads are just fine other than the seals. The truck is very low mileage and runs well other than oil burning at startup. My calculus is: if I have to pull the intake for the gasket, it isnt that much more work to pull the heads for a...

TBI needs valve seals and intake gasket - fix what I have or upgrade?

My 88' TBI definitely needs valve seals and probably needs an intake gasket. Should I just fix what I have or just buy a set of nice mild (aluminum?) heads that have all new valvetrain components? If the latter, what are the best options for replacement heads that would bolt right up to the...

    Stereo with no head unit?

Has anyone here installed a stereo with no head unit (bluetooth amp, tablet based system, etc…)? I am currently looking for ideas and inspiration. I want to modernize the stereo in my 88 V10, but dont want to cut the dash. Seeing what other options are available (already looked at modern/...

    “4x4” front hub decals?

I could be wrong, but I dont think that is the case. I think the rears are almost 4” and the fronts seem to be closer to 2.5”.

    “4x4” front hub decals?

Does anyone know of a place to buy properly colored “4x4” decals in the diameter that fits the OEM auto-locking hubs? I bought some replacement rear caps from LMC, but they really highlight how faded the fronts are. I cant seem to find decals for the front anywhere. Thanks in advance.

New Member - 88 Suburban in Arkansas

Hi everyone. Thanks for having me here. I just inherited an 88 Suburban 4WD that has been in my family since around 92. My grandfather ran a small, rural airport close to a lake here in AR. This truck was purchased new by a pilot that kept it in his hanger for use when he would fly in to fish...
