I did ...
Out of a solid alum. block ..
Dang chore it is doing a 4L80 ..
Just got done hooking up the column shifter ..
Found out I have no low or second .. Gate not long enough ..
I offered $100 and got a no in less than 5 seconds ..
Even at that I was not wanting to pay that much ..
So ... Going to get off my lazy ass and make one, won't be stainless unless I find it dumpster diving !!
It's the same transmission as the 700-R4 - merely a name change. The 700-R4 torque converter lockup was controlled by the engine computer from the late 80s, but all 700-R4s can have the lockup controlled without a computer. They converted everything to 4L60E with full computer control in 1994...
Granted the 700 R4 is a good tranny, but it has the same spline count as a TH 350 (27)
The 4L80 has the same spline count as the TH 400 and the output shaft O.D. is a 1/4" larger than the 700 R4 ..
Much more robust in that area and others as well ..
I'm wanting to install one on my Frankenstein too ..
It's a 4L80E married to a NP203 with using a custom adapter ..
( Most likely some modifying will be needed )
Just got done working on a crossmember on a 75 K15 ..
Kind of the same deal you have going down .
Trans is 4L85E T-case 203 ..
Was going to reuse the K15 crossmember with making a spacer between the member and trans mount ..
But went ahead and got a after/market one ...
Making some spacers for dropping the trans/transfer case ..
The idea is to net a better driveshaft angle ..
Short wheelbase and being lifted don't go well together !
Much, much better ..
Although the shifter knob no longer looks like it belongs ..
Looked Ok with the short stick, looks out of place on the long ..
Thinking about a wood shift knob to match the dash and Caddy horn button ...
This knob
Was hoping by doing one side it would work ..
Could have bolt it on, but would be right on the trans pan ..
Did the other side the same way ..
Fit is right-on !!
That part of the doing is done ..
The custom crossmember came in today ..
Kind of knew it wasn't going to be a Plug & Play deal ..
To fat, going to take a haft inch off each side ..
Cutting the welds loose is slow go .. Got 6 to slice open ..
Getting there ..
Hate it when you find out your stick ain't long enough !! Lol
Found a Tall Boy stick .. NOS ..
Been on the shelf for a coon's age .. Still skin wrapped ..
This is how long it's been sitting, got a price tag on it that says ... $29.97 ... Those days are long gone .. !!
(Product from the...
There's the shifter lever with the extension welded on ..
Got to saw a hole in the floor and patch the old hole ..
Does looks to be 6 inches forward from where it was at ..
Soon to see a shifter in the cab ..
Do think it's where i wanted it to be at..
Yep, nailed it ...
Stick is to low ...
You Guys just about talked me into pulling the mouse motor (406 ci) and go to a rat motor ...
Then again I have this 12 valve sitting right close ..
Need to do sumthin with it .. ??
T case shifter mount is about done ..
Powder coated and installed it ..
Made up the extended shift rods ..
Dang thing looks like it's going to work ..
Hadn't welded the extension to the shifter just yet, waiting for the crossmember to get here for a test fit ..
Edit; Jumped the gun.. Did...
T case shifter is just about done ...
Trip to Ace for some hardware and then a test fit on the real McCoy ..
Transmission mount came in today ...
Well made, needing hardware for it too ..
I rethreaded the 4L80 adapter to 1/2" x 13 tpi which was the size the TH 400 used ..
A little work on the...
I used a B&M temp gauge on my truck .. Had it mounted under the dash .. Running a TH 400 trans ..
The sensor was installed on the out line to the cooler just a inch or two from the trans case ...
Worked really good ..
Recently took it off cause I had no further need for it .
Changed out the...
Still working on the installation ...
Not a Plug & Play deal for a 4x4 ..
Shafts, crossmember, column shift lever pivot bracket and dealing with making a mount up to relocate the NP203 shifter ..
Two wheel drive is much less complicated ...
