My deal fell through on my gears/diff..looks like ill be doing it myself

Awesome. I have a little toaster oven I use for bearings and pulleys. actually gets hotter than my range. Hopefully I can get them on without needing a press. If not Ill just buy a 20ton at HF or make something...whatever suites me at that time.

My deal fell through on my gears/diff..looks like ill be doing it myself

Im saying I dont think ill need to pull the bearings off the pinion and diff since im going back with all new parts. Only reason to do so would be to use the bearing as a install bearing and I can just buy a duplicate for that. Is that correct?

My deal fell through on my gears/diff..looks like ill be doing it myself

So with me doing all new bearings, pinion, diff etc I wont really need to remove ANY bearings if i just buy the pinion bearing I need for making the "installation bearing". Is this wrong...am i missing a point somewhere? I know ill still need to press the bearings on, but will I not be able to...

My deal fell through on my gears/diff..looks like ill be doing it myself

Are you trying to stop me from buying a 20 ton press. Shame on you!!! But seriously Thanks Ricko! I was already considering Fabricobbling something to remove the bearings with but couldnt think of a way to keep pressure applied. I had made it as far as a bottle jack but had not yet determined a...

My deal fell through on my gears/diff..looks like ill be doing it myself

Ive been seeing Randy's all over the web on forums and such. They came up when I searched for "axle builders". I have considered the crush sleeve elimination and for about $15 may as well do it. Especially if it allows for an easier install. Ive been watching Eric the Car Guy for years...he has...

My deal fell through on my gears/diff..looks like ill be doing it myself

Im always looking for an excuse to buy new tools. And for the 2k that was quoted to do a regear/diff I could buy a K as an axle donor; then part it out and make my money back. When I heard 2k I knew I had an axle job in my future.

My deal fell through on my gears/diff..looks like ill be doing it myself

It doesnt seem like a big deal on paper. Ive watched a few videos tonight and honestly it looks like the damn drum brakes are the worst part and ive done them a dozen times at least. The ring/pinion/diff install seems pretty straight forward. I am reconsidering the kit approach though. I cant...

OPTIONS for bench seat and carpet -

Hey we cant all be right. Youll get there. IM not judging,LOL I do however agree that they look a bit out of place in a square. But they are the only "comfortable" GM seat narrow enough to fit that I know of. Now those aftermarket lmc seats with the low back and center console....damn good...

OPTIONS for bench seat and carpet -

Ive had good luck with the spray can carpet dye. If mine had carpet Id do it on this one. Aftermarket seats are always better imho but hats a slippery slope you are going down. A set of seats from a 2000ish gmc/chevy fits well and looks great. Has armrests and center console. And you can get a...

My deal fell through on my gears/diff..looks like ill be doing it myself

Yeah ole Keith is actually the owner. Also ownes the Used car lot next door...Go figure,LOL. But hey its common practice in all fields to charge exorbitant amounts for jobs you really don't want. I dont blame them for that. But hey...an excuse to buy new tools. I can spin that,LOL

By inch po You mean just an inch pound torque wrench right. I discovered my regular torque wrench is a POS when installing my heads. Kept breaking bolts @ 20ftlbs...that aint right. Ill get a nice set for this job. Ive always wanted a nice digital set anyway.

My deal fell through on my gears/diff..looks like ill be doing it myself

I knew about the dremel/bearing trick. I wonder though if the new pinion will have the same bearing...if not Id already planned to ask QP for a second bearing to dremel out and use as an install bearing. Will I need to purchase a dial indicator for the install? Ive seen them used on videos but...

We are 110% on the same page there. Ill do anything and have never paid another person to do shit...but gears do seem a little involved. Ill definitely be waiting til spring now ...damnit... You are also most likely right about them just not wanting to do it. They made a $2000 quote sheet off...

My deal fell through on my gears/diff..looks like ill be doing it myself

I should have just planned to do it myself anyway with the luck ive had outta "professionals" recently. Was gonna let a local offroad shop do a 4.11/trutrac but the deal we had fell through. No fault or blame to be had, just a deal that went another way. So....I know ALL of you are gonna say "...

Anyone running these tires Vitour Galaxy R1

I ask because they are one of the 2 only options for a 285/70r15 street tire and actually have great reviews as far as grip- supposed to be pretty sticky. The only others i see are the Coker bf good's that are $285 and dont seem at all worth it. I can get the Vitours for $170 apiece for the...

    295/50/r15 on all four fitment

Even if thats too wide for the front I still love it. Looks Sick AF. I want 295s on the rear of mine but I cant find 295/60r15's anywhere that aren't drag radials so im forced to run 275/60 rear and 235/70 front. I like having matched height tires but staggered width but prefer a 29"tall tire so...
