    engine and tranny swap question

NV4500 would be a good option. 5 speed, still has a 5.61 granny low (6.34 if you grab a 93-94 model), and .73 overdrive. They came in 1993-2007 GM trucks (and Dodges). In your case, you'd need to buy an advance adapters bell housing to run the mechanical clutch linkage. Advance Adapters has a...

That very well could be true. The "catch-fire" experience was a few years ago.

    Best spot for tach?

I tucked mine on the dash, by the A-pillar. On my current truck, I'll probably be putting one on the column, since I'm swapping to a 5 speed manual.

    Welder

The Harbor Freight welders are mostly junk. If I recall right, a member here had one catch on fire the first time he used it. If you are on budget, I'd look at Northern Tool or Eastwood for their store lines. They aren't super great, but better than the HF junk. If you can swing it, a Hobart...

    Check out what I scored!

Nice, that should be fun! Right up my alley, too, as I'm in the process of swapping an NV4500 behind my 6.0L LS.

    Delay Wiper/steering column?

You can absolutely replace the wiper switch inside the column. It's not the easiest thing to do, but it can be done. You have to dig into the column a little bit to get to it. You'll need a steering wheel puller and a lock plate compressor, at a minimum.

Floor pan changes - Carpet fitment

I'm not 100% positive in which cases it applied, but I know the high hump cabs had a different rear tunnel suction from 73-80' vs 81'-87'. You can see the difference here (73-80' rear tunnel section laid on a low hump 81'-87' tunnel): Here is a 73-80' high hump tunnel laid on the front...

    Best budget V8 swap into a 1986 C10?

I used the LS A/C compressor with my stock Squarebody A/C. You can also modify a TBI R4 compressor bracket to work on the LS, or user an aftermarket high mount A/C kit. Lots of options.

Vintage air, anyone used their products on a square?

x2. Mine blows nice and cold. It will keep me comfortable on a 105* Texas day. I may not be "ice cold", but it's more than adequate.

what brand of fuel do you run in your square?

My R20 get's whatever brand I happen to stop at, but premium only (LQ9 in a heavy truck, I feel better with it running premium). My C5 'Vette gets Chevron 93 only (some additive in it keeps the fuel gauge in the C5s working correctly. Weird stuff...)

    Taking the plunge! 1985 C10 long bed L96 6.0 6L90e swap

Tejas has a setup that will allow you to do the 6L90E without doing any tunnel mods to fit it. I'd call them up for details, it may not be on the page. Scotty will be more than happy to talk it over with you. You can also check out the Squarebody LS Facebook page: LS Swapped Square Body GM...
