    My First LS Swap

Thanks guys, haha. To be fair, Qwk, you've probably forgotten more about LS stuff than I'll ever know about them! :D

    My First LS Swap

    1. I had a custom driveshaft built. The mounts I used (Tejas Steelworks), move the engine forward a bit, so you need a longer driveshaft. What you get for that is the ability to run the factory LS truck A/C compressor, tucked inside the frame a bit. A minor notch in the frame for hose...

    My First LS Swap

Ask away, good sir! Just finished my 6.0L/4L80E swap a few months ago.

I vill take eet, good sir! PM your info. I'm not a stalker, so I didn't file it all away when I bought the Caprice, lol.

    Fuel pump placement.

You'll need something that stays hot when the ignition is in crank and run positions, so that rules out the starter solenoid wire (it's only hot when cranking). The large pink wire coming off the bulkhead in the engine bay that went to the TBI distributor would work, if you still have it. If...

    Fuel pump placement.

If you still have the dash switch sub harness uncut, you could just put a fuse inline and feed directly to that from a switched ignition 12v+, instead of to the old ECM 12v+ into the left side of the bulkhead. The dash switch sub harness is near the throttle cable in the firewall. With any luck...

    Fuel pump placement.

You are pretty much guaranteed to kill that external pump if you try pulling through the top of the sender AND through the existing pumps. Also, why not just use the current pumps? You obviously have to have a way you are powering your external. Just tie whatever that is (most likely an...

    FS: stereo harness

Lemme check if my truck still has the factory ends on the harness. If it does, I'll grab it. Tired of not having tunes!

    Air Conditioner drain

There is a hole in the bottom of the A/C box in the engine bay. It's most likely clogged with leaves and other debris. You might need to pull the inner fender to get good access to it, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

What have you done to your square lately??

Very nice work on that harness, good sir! Someday when I have some cash floating around, I need to see if you can whip up a crewcab, relayed, express down window harness. :D

Yep, and a small food scale is great for weighing cans to see exactly how much you've charged.

    Runaway Compressor Clutch

I'd be checking the wiring from the HVAC head, through the low pressure switch, to the A/C clutch. May have a break and vibration is causing it to turn the clutch on/off. The wire to the ECM is just so it knows to kick up the idle to compensate for the A/C load. It's possible the rapid cycling...

    George's 2003 Sub "lucky7"

HPTuners isn't cheap, but it lets you play with all of that. You could pay someone to tune it, but transmission settings are very subjective, you'd probably end up going back and forth a bunch. I've been playing with mine for quite a bit to get it "just right" on my LS swap. My "just right"...

    Replacing compressor

I get what you're saying, but they aren't the same thing. R-11 is a CFC, Trichlorofluoromethane. Rx-11, per the MSDS, is: (E)-1,2-Dichloroethene Ethane, 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoro Pentane,1,1,1,2,2,3,4,5,5,5-decafluoro- Butane, 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoro One is a refrigerant, the other is a...

    Replacing compressor

I don't think R11 has been used much lately, certainly not like it has been in the past. US production quit in 1996. It was quite popular back when R12 was the primary refrigerant though.

    Replacing compressor

Generally speaking, since the evaporator is after the screened orifice tube, it doesn't get much junk. Just a quick reverse flush is all it should need, not heavy flushing. This removes the old oil.

What did you do to your 5.3 Oil Pan?

Scrubbed mine down with a fine brash brush and mineral spirits. It's not flawless, but much cleaner than when I got the engine.

What have you done to your square lately??

No worries! I had fun looking into all the alternative refrigerants while diagnosing my cooling issues. It blows my mind that we still haven't come up with a better replacement for R12 after all these years. Now the automakers are moving on to an even WORSE performing refrigerant than R134a...

What do you mean by the mix? R134a is a single component refrigerant, not a blend like Freeze 12, R12a, etc.

What have you done to your square lately??

So, after paying a shop $250 to vacuum and charge my A/C system, and being really disappointed with the vent temps, I followed the old addage, "if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself". They way overcharged the system, and pressures were through the roof. This was supposed...

    Glass weatherstripping

I did a full seal replacement (vent windows, door seal, window scrapers and channel, etc). on my 84' from Classic Parts about 4 years ago. They were still perfect when I sold it 2 months ago, after 4 years of Texas heat and sun beating down on them 24/7.
