Question on Frame Slant under Driver's side Cab

It was to make space for the catalytic converter. Perfectly normal.

    1980 El Camino

Well...it only took me 4.5 years to get the floor pan into the car! Still have some finishing up and some brackets to finish welding in, but finally making progress again. Once the floor pan is fully in, the body is coming off the frame, and I'll be blasting the whole thing. Already have some...

    1980 El Camino

Currently buried in the garage, go figure. Ended up moving on super short notice at the beginning of the year and haven't had time to do anything with it yet. I've been working on getting the new garage cleaned up and organized from the move, so I can get the current engine out of the car, do...

Oh, yep, you are correct. I missed the 4 wheel disc part.

What causes brake distribution to change when braking in reverse with 4 wheel disc

A lot of brake assemblies are designed to self adjust when applied in reverse. Very common design.

Dual Tanks Vs Single 40 Gallon Tank For 8.1l Swap

It is fewer components to go out...however, when that single pump goes out, you are stranded. Dual tank setup will still have another operable tank to get you home.

What size shielding gas tank to get for welding

I've gotten along pretty well with an 80cf tank. I don't do a TON of welding, so its worked out well for me. Costs about $35 to refill it down here.

    1980 El Camino

Picked up the 5.3L and 4L60E (and a slew of goodies to go with it) last night. This thing is CLEAN inside! You could eat off of it.

    Brake Lines Copper or Steel

I used the Ni-Cop to re-plumb the brakes on a whole car (91' Caprice, for what it's worth). Worked great, and easy to work with.

    1980 El Camino

Picking up a 70k mile 02' 5.3L/4L60E, LS6 intake, F-body accessory drive, PCM, aftermarket wiring harness, and a Mast Motorsports swap pan for this thing next week. Friend of mine got it in a trade and doesn't need it, so the El Camino will be getting a new heart!

    Let's talk oil

I snagged one of those. Originally ordered 3 cases of 10W30 VR1 for $36.33, but Amazon sent an email acknowledging the pricing error, but reduced the order to 1 case. Just barely got it today. Ordered it on Jan 24th. Can't complain, even though I only got 1 case. Got six quarts of 10W30 VR1 for...

Is it harmful to drive in "2" for long periods of time?

Theoretical Plot twist: Truck actually has a Powerglide.

    I got owned. It's not a TH400 . Diff between TH350 vs. TH375

I don't think the internals are different enough than a standard TH400 to make it weaker than a TH350. Output shaft, and likely fewer clutches in each pack. I'd run it over the TH350 if towing, but you honestly probably wouldn't go wrong with either one.

It could definitely be worse, that's for sure. Should be a pretty straight forward repair (famous last words...).

Is it harmful to drive in "2" for long periods of time?

I don't see why it would be an issue...2nd gear should have you well over torque converter stall at speed, so you're not really worried about heat build up in the converter/trans. The engine might not like it, if you are keeping it at high RPM.

    1980 El Camino

Thanks for the comments guys! I dug in on Friday after work and removed the carpet to take a look at the floor. Have to say, I'm not surprised by what I found, but I was really hoping it would be OK (fat chance! No windows for 9 years...not good, lol). I'll be getting some practice doing rust...

    1980 El Camino

Hey guys, Long time, no see! Figured I would drop in and show off my latest project. I picked up this 1980 El Camino from my high school friend up in Utah. He rescued it from a field back in 05' or so, swapped a SBC 350 in place of the Buick 3.8L V6, and drove it all through high school. Once...

454 out, in with New GM 502 converting to Fitech, fuel delivery help?

The LS runs at 58psi or so, but I'm sure the valve sees a little bit higher pressure since the regulator is after the valve. Been running for over 2 years now without a hiccup. I'd guess there is quite a bit of headroom in the 65psi rating.
