    AC HELP NEEDED..

im gonna be doing my system next week. My plan is to replace seals, get the system to a vacuum, put a couple cans of the r12a with oil, evacuate again to vacuum (not sure its necessary but I will feel better), and then do a can of r12a with oil, a can of r12a with stop leak (for the hell of it)...

    AC HELP NEEDED..

I've been looking into restoring my AC system too and based on alot of research, I decided to go with R12a, not R12. It is a drop in replacement for R12. No modifications needed from the original system. It is still produced and legal (unlike R12) and is actually the standard in Canada. Its...

1979 Crew Cab Dually 496 - Tire Wizard Needed

The general consensus seems to be that this size should work so I guess im gonna try a different all terrain tire and hope I have enough space between the rears. If anyone has any suggestions let me know. I think I might try the BFGoodrich commercial T/A Traction or the Goodyear Wrangler...

1979 Crew Cab Dually 496 - Tire Wizard Needed

Ok, so I was trying to avoid the extra work of putting all the tires on and dropping it down because I could tell they were too close, but everyone says they run this size so I did it anyways just to see. Im no expert, but Im pretty sure this is way too close. At the bottom it looks like about...

1979 Crew Cab Dually 496 - Tire Wizard Needed

are they slip on spacers or the kind that bolt on and then have their own studs? I was thinking about getting a 3/8" slip on spacer. That might give me just enough clearance. the other problem is i dont know how much they would flex if i put 5K lbs tongue weight on it...

WHATT? Why have I never heard about gearvendors in those motorhomes before? Thanks! I will definitely be looking now lol. It is running 3.73 gears. Which I dont see a problem with at all considering its a 496. I dont think ill be needing any more torque lol. Maybe Im wrong though...

1979 Crew Cab Dually 496 - Tire Wizard Needed

So maybe its worth my time to just get a different brand/model and see if i have enough clearance? BTW, im going on what I found online, NHTSA says you have to have 1" of gap. Most guys say about 3/4". I think I would be happy with 3/4"

1979 Crew Cab Dually 496 - Tire Wizard Needed

Thanks! I should clarify, they are not rubbing at the moment, but i only have about an 1/8th of an inch gap in some places where the agressive sidewall treads are. If they didnt have the knobs on the side, I would have about half an inch, maybe a little less. And its not even on the ground yet.

1979 Crew Cab Dually 496 - Tire Wizard Needed

Lol ya im aware. I plan on putting a Holley Sniper to squeeze out a couple more MPG, but when you do the math, I pay $40 a month in insurance on this vs 200-300 for a new truck. I paid 5K for this vs 60K for a new truck. Just the difference in insurance payments more than makes up for the gas...

Hello Everyone! I just picked up this beauty and am getting it ready to be my primary tow vehicle for a toy hauler. The 454 was stroked and bored to a 496. Its got a TH400. 120,000 miles with only 60,000 since the engine was redone. Its got a lot of little custom touches done by the PO who was...

Does my engine have a chance of living?

No, you can move more volume without it being under higher pressure. If you have a garden hose and straw and both have oil coming out of them at the same pressure, the hose will still be able to put out more volume.

New to old trucks, just joined. Questions about a probable purchase.

Welcome from AZ. I would jump on that myself. I don't see very many with a turbo 400. The beefier trans isn't "necessary" for average street driving but its nice to have.

    Rental trailers

Honestly, I would just have someone go in and get the local trailer for you. Find a town in the farthest corner of your county and tell them thats where you are going. I normally wouldnt lie to a small business owner (corporations are a very different story :flipthebird:) but this seems like an...

How do I know if I have HEI, and if I don't have it, should I upgrade

Wow, thats a great question. If I remember 8th grade science class right, you can fill a tub with water and then put the engine in the tub and measure how much the water goes up. Just make sure you post pics.
