Photo of the radiator in a 2WD, 2500 w/ SBC

Mmm....so is it possible that the thicker 454 radiator that you and I currently have, cools better than the much longer one? Wish someone would chime in with some info! Regarding the fan blade position.....I honestly don't know. Talk to me! I can always trim my spacer block to move my fan...

Photo of the radiator in a 2WD, 2500 w/ SBC

Thanks guys! GTME94, you've got the same radiator that I have installed right now.....which is the normal length, but thicker, 454 radiator. I put your version in, in 2012, and used a thick fan spacer from NAPA to bring my cooling fan forward and into the much shallower 454 radiator fan...

Parting 89 Suburban 2500 in Northern CA

Big C just sold me all that 3/4 ton-2WD-454 radiator goodness! Thanks man.....didn't know you were on here, and just stumbled upon your thread. Wish I lived closer, because I'd have come over and done all this in person, and probably grabbed a few more things!

Photo of the radiator in a 2WD, 2500 w/ 454 Anyone out there with a 2 wheel drive, 3/4 ton, with a 454, willing to post some good photos of the big, long radiator? I'd also like to see what the driver's side of the core support looks like, in front of the radiator (if different than the...

    Baldwin Engine Oil Filters

Thanks for posting that. I've been using the large (long) one that NAPA sells, for a couple years now, just to get more oil capacity. I wonder what it's micron size is, as compared to the B7 you list there?

    Strange Burnt Plastic Smell?

When I had the burned electrical/plastic smell, it wound up being the heater blower fan switch in the dash. I believe I posted a series of photos here, about how I repaired it. It was getting cooked by a bad ground connection at the blower fan, out on the firewall, and the load from the a/c...

    Lug nut replacements

I bought a set of the big chrome ones a few years ago from NAPA. They look good with my stock wheels, and have held up well......but I don't live where the roads are salted, or where the climate has 4 seasons.

    Strange Burnt Plastic Smell?

Confirm that your ground connection at the blower motor on the passenger side firewall is still good, and tight. If that's okay, and the ground wire isn't getting hot, or the blower motor speed wires aren't getting hot (nearby bundle of wires at a connector), then you may have a blower fan...

    TH400 Oil cooler Pan

I'd heard/read that the stacked plate coolers transferred more heat, so that's why I went with the largest version sold by B&M/TruCool (same cooler, made by LONG, reboxed for either company) at about 11"x11"x1.5". I also installed the cast aluminum, finned, deep (extra 3.5qt capacity) B&M...

    Did I just get 16+mpg?

Thought I'd give a mileage update since I finally got to tow the camper up to the mountains and back last weekend. It's about 5hrs on the dot, each way, and 500mi. There are 2 long steep 1,200' grades on the freeway to get out to the CA Valley, and then a twisty 2 lane, 30mi long...

Are these overload springs worth installing?

Thanks. I did wind up buying them and the guy had the mounting hardware. I was lucky in that right after I purchased the 'burb ('04) I found one in the local wrecking yard that had been somebody's baby. It had upgraded rear springs, and a huge rear sway bar, both of which are on now on my...

Are these overload springs worth installing?

These are on the local CL for $25. Doesn't show/mention the U-bolts so I'm trying to find out if those are included. Ad says they were on an '85 High Sierra. Would these be worth adding to the 'burb? I already have a much heavier duty spring set, so all I'm looking for is something that...

    Oil pressure fluctuating

Start by confirming oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. Always use a quality filter and never a Fram or other crap filters that fail internally.

Where do I find a new stock tranny cooler?

My suggestion would be to purchase a stacked plate, low pressure drop (LPD) style cooler, sold either by "Tru-Cool" or "B&M Super Cooler." Both are the same, made by "LONG" and are the best in the industry. Fit the largest cooler you have room for if you tow, crawl, 4x4, etc. or otherwise...

    Bvllsh!t on craigslist.

This showed up on CL this morning for $400.... I had no choice but to bring it home. It's 12kw, and runs on LP or NG.

    Drilled and slotted rotors

This will probably be the next real money I spend on the 'burb. I've had the front brakes extremely hot while towing. Slotted and drilled would probably have made a lot of difference.

Head gasket, water pump, or ?

I always bring the rpm's up on any vehicle I'm bleeding the cooling system on. It makes the water pump spin fast, creating a nice pressure wave that forces all the air out of the block, head(s) and heater core(s). Sometimes I have to leave the coolant level a little low in order to prevent...

Head gasket, water pump, or ?

Posted an answer last night, but it appears to have vanished...... To bleed a cooling system, you leave the radiator cap off, and run the engine at 1,500-ish until you have good flow through the radiator and the hoses are all hot, AND heat coming out of the heater. During this process the...

Heater Core Hoses and Heating Issues

I don't recommend installing used T-stats. A nice new Mr. Gasket T-stat (top of the line) is dirt cheap. Just because a T-stat tests ok in a pan of water doesn't mean it'll last, be accurate, flow properly, blah, blah, blah. Regarding the heater, remove the hoses from the core. Foreward...

A/C and Heat Only Blower Motor Comparison/Measurements

Great photos and write, as always! Don't forget that it's a slight upgrade in airflow, according to a member here, to install the blower fan assembly from the next generation of trucks and 'burbs. Fits perfect, moves more air, cheap to purchase new from umpteen sources.

    Oil Pressure Troubleshooting

@chengny: Yep, that's the caliber of the sleeve sealing compound. Once it's cured, you're not getting the 2 items apart without a blow torch. Then red loctite, times a million. @theblindchicken: I think you should stop betting on scenarios and attach a mechanical gauge. I'm not trying to...

    Oil Pressure Troubleshooting

Could you make a quality (street use) connection between pickup tube and pump using Loctite Green Sleeve Sealing Compound? Pretty serious stuff, and it's used to "glue" bushings into housings.
