    Chirping and squealing serpentine belt

Ya. Used to feel like NAPA sold quality stuff. I'm not seeing proof of that any more. Just put a set of their V-belts on my VW pickup, and the alternator belt could not be kept from squealing, no matter how tight. Purchased a set of Dayco belts, and have had no further issue.

    Chirping and squealing serpentine belt

Thought the water pump bearings were failing today during a drive. Removed the alternator and had it spun in a machine to see if it's bearings were the cause.....nope. Replaced the serp belt tensioner pulley at $22 because it was right in line with where the noise was coming from.....no...

    My 1991 v1500 suburban

Vibrations at speed are almost always a wheel/tire issue. Tires, especially old tires, are very prone to internal belt slip......especially tires that have been rotated or installed in a way that they are then run in the opposite direction that they used to be run in. Once the belts slip, the...

    My 1991 v1500 suburban

Have you taken the wheels off and had them spun on a spin balancer at a tire shop? If not, you'll want to stand there next to the balancer and look for: -Tires that are out of round, and hop up and down, or move side-to-side. If you see this, look closely at the rim in order to see if the...

Lucky dog! You would have been oh-so-screwed had that been tagged "gross polluter." Well played.

40" long HD radiator w/ shroud & top mounts

Just performed this upgrade to my Suburban, and while in the process of collecting all the parts, have enough to do one more truck. You can see my post here, to get an idea of how easy this upgrade is. http://www.gmsquarebody.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15474 Here's what you'll be getting...

Upgrade: Installing the longer 2WD 3/4 ton 454 radiator

You have to watch out for what kind of radiator is being offered. Your link shows an aluminum core/plastic tank version. The copper/brass versions are sold by "Spectra" and "ProRad" via sites like autopartswharehouse.com Look up: 1989 Suburban R2500 7.4L And that radiator will have the...

Upgrade: Installing the longer 2WD 3/4 ton 454 radiator

Thanks for the kind words on the write up. I started out with all the parts off a 1989 Suburban R2500 (454/2WD). But ultimately, the radiator I installed is more of the 6.2 diesel version with the much larger trans cooler, and the big driver's side tank that contains an engine oil cooler...

What have you done to your square lately??

I was running the standard 4 row, 454 radiator, and it uses the same top hose as the standard 3 row 350 radiator......which is what I'd upgraded from about 2 years ago. But this long radiator is so much longer, there's no way that shorter top hose will reach. The NAPA hose has that strange...

New top hose because it's so much longer. Re-used the lower hose though.

Upgrade: Installing the longer 2WD 3/4 ton 454 radiator

I tow in pretty severe conditions, and have made a few modifications to help keep the coolant and transmission temps under control. A couple years ago I upgraded the original small block 3 row radiator to the bigger 4 row version that I saw offered in the 1/2 ton, 454 models. Nice, but I still...

WTB: 6.2L radiator fan shroud and top panel

Anyone have a fan shroud and top closing panel for a 6.2L radiator? Same as used on the 2WD 454's that got that 40" long radiator. Or if anyone's going to their local yards, can you keep an eye out and grab 'em for me? Thanks! You can email me directly at: austinado16 at cs dot com

    Got a new Car Hoist

Thanks. It was a 1 owner dealer demo, and I bought it after it had been donated to the Goodwill. I've put a lot of effort into bringing it back to original condition.

    '86 Burb fuel issues

Thanks for looking up the RPO code. Do you have a link to where they all are in the library? Just checked my RPO sticker, and there's no NE2, so it looks like I could upgrade to a 40. Next question....will a 40 fit inside the big skid plate that covers the bottom of the tank on the 4x4...

    '86 Burb fuel issues

When mine hits the empty, we're walking.....literally. From there, it'll take about 35 gallons if I keep adding fuel after filler nozzle automatically kicks off. Other than comparing dimensions to what's listed for new tanks on places like autopartswharehouse dot com, is there an RPO code I...

    '86 Burb fuel issues

hijack Hold the phone......there's 40 gallon available!? What models was that offered in and what's the RPO code? I've always thought mine was 34ish, and I've crammed 35 and change in it prior to long trips. The extra 5+ gallons would be pretty since our rig is only used for road trips...

It's actually the same height, and same thickness. It's just that extra section toward the driver's side.
