What have you done to your square lately??

Just for a little perspective, here's how far back the issue with Fram filters grenading, dates. In 1982 a buddy of mine had a Fram grenade and destroy an engine. This was back when a person could call a company and actually talk to someone, write a letter and get correspondence, etc. Fram...

What have you done to your square lately??

Since you have it apart and bearings are cheap, I'd roll new bearing shells into the rods and mains. That one isn't down to copper, but it's definitely worn. What oil filter were you using? I've seen Frams do this, and the internet is full of stories about them grenading. I think it's worth...

What have you done to your square lately??

Replaced the headliner. Discovered a vacuum hose (black with orange stripe) laying around the wires for the light in the glove box. Thanks to the forum, I quickly learned what it goes to. Removed the cowl to expose the fresh air vacuum diaphragm. Spliced the cut vacuum hose back together...

    Help 1991 burb shift issues

You'll need to have it rebuilt, and the rebuilder needs to pay attention to the check balls inside the case. Mine did the same thing at about 235K (original transmission). I had it rebuilt by a local GM tech who had a great reputation for rebuilding them. I read up on all the upgrade parts...

'82 Diesel Dually on CL in California

Go get it boys. It can sit in front of my house for a few weeks if you need to buy some time to come get it. I live about 20mi away from it and could help arrange transport from the seller to my place while you get your ducks in line

My 1982 Buick Grand National Project basket case

What an amazing project! I'm blown away at the fantastic job you are doing!!! My brother has one of these in all original condition. Crazy fast, and a tire smoldering monster. I'm glad you're the one who found her!

Low hanging fruit to improve performance - request for input

Sage advice. I would add to that; use only OEM parts, which you can usually get on www.rockauto.com

WTB: Impact strips for the front bumper

I'm looking for impact strips for the front bumper on my '90 Suburban. Mine uses the version of the strips that have the plastic chrome strip along the top, and the face of the impact strips are ribbed. Thanks!

Factory Oil Cooler - What did they look like?

My '90 Suburban V1500 came equipped with the engine oil cooler (located on the driver's side). I added a similar sized 11"x11" stacked plate style trans cooler on the passenger side. I put a factory 454 pusher fan in front of the trans cooler. I switch the fan on when towing at low speeds in...

Upgrade: Installing the longer 2WD 3/4 ton 454 radiator

Here's how the mod to the radiator shroud turned out. The edge that face the engine was run through a roller, so it's actually a nice rolled edge that folds back under about 3/8". The first photo was taken during a test fit. 2nd photo is of it installed, with engine running, in order to see...

    Cowl removal difficulty level

Just did this job about a week ago because the vacuum hose to the fresh air flap vac diaphragm over on the passenger had broken off, and I'd found the vac hose with firewall grommet, "laying" in the wiring harness for the glovebox compartment light. It was a pretty tedious job because my paint...

Let me know if you'd like to sell the fan and clutch.

Brass radiators - what would you pay to repair vs replace and what can be repaired

The 1990 TBI SBC is reverse rotation. So when putting on any fan, whether it's the OE size, or like the big 454 that I have on now, I have to source the reverse rotation versions.

Upgrade: Installing the longer 2WD 3/4 ton 454 radiator

Sorry for the delayed response. Been wrapped up in life for a couple years I guess. The license plate steps are probably no longer made, but they used to come up on ebay fairly regularly. I haven't needed or looked for one in years, so I don't know if they're still easy to find. Regarding...

Brass radiators - what would you pay to repair vs replace and what can be repaired

A few years ago I replaced the original copper/brass with the much longer radiator used in some of the 454 2WD trucks. It was a challenge finding the longer fan shroud, and top closing panel, but I'm glad I did. During the installation I opened up the areas of the radiator core support, on the...

    HVAC Vacuum Controls

HUGE thanks to all the contributors to this excellent thread, especially to the guys posting photos. Today, I removed the wipers and cowling, removed the vacuum hose from the fresh air flap vacuum diaphragm, spliced it back onto the black/orange vac hose behind the glove box, and then pushed the...

    ac vacuum lines

HUGE thanks to all the contributors to this excellent thread, especially to the guys posting photos. I just opened my glove box tonight and found the mysterious black/orange vacuum hose (I've just learned goes into the upper firewall area and connects to a vac diaphragm that opens and closes...

    HVAC Vacuum Controls

Very timely post. I just opened up my glove box a few minutes ago, and found that exact vacuum hose, with grommet attached, wrapped around the wires going to the glove box light, and kinda hanging into the top of the glove box. What the heck? So apparently my vacuum line has been cut, inside...

    Tach options

I did the SunTune 2" tach with cup, in the lower left A-pillar corner, and mounted it to the pillar using that existing screw that's already going through the pillar. Wires run in a black sleeve, toward the windshield and dive down behind the dash. Simple to install, looks okay. Thought about...

Upgrade: Installing the longer 2WD 3/4 ton 454 radiator

Replaced the fan clutch today with a Hayden severe duty version, and replaced the radiator hose with a version that comes straight forward, and clears the fan blades much better (Dayco 71422 - $11 at RockAuto). This is how the other hose fit.

    1977 K15 fan blade

Installed the new Hayden severe duty clutch yesterday. Comparing it to the OEM one, it has much thinner cooling fins on the front face. The cold start "roar" goes away after only about a 1/4mi of driving. I seem to remember my old (new) OEM clutch roaring for a mile after cold start. It'll...
