    Dual tank pump

That's an excellent overview of the fluid routing. This is how the electrical portion of the 1981-1991 Auxillary Fuel Tank Regular Production Option NL2 works. I posted this on another board. **1981-1991 Motorized Valve system... used a six port motorized valve made by Pollack. These are...

    Fuel smell and pressurized tanks

A basic three hose vapor can is easy to hook up and costs you nothing on performance. It keeps the garage/barn from smelling like fuel. If you aren't in need of emissions compliance I'd steer clear of the overly complex 1980s hose farms and get a 17113148 three hose can from a GM V8 A, B, or...

Assuming LSD needs to be rebuilt.......but......

If it's an LSD it's not stock GM. You need to find out who made it and what model it is so you can order the right parts. A locker would burn both tires too...

Assuming LSD needs to be rebuilt.......but......

First off... Are you sure it's a limited slip diff? GM didn't put those in our trucks as a factory option. They installed Eaton Gov Loc locking diffs in trucks with the G80 option. The G80 is a locker not a LSD. Doing burnouts or hole shots or whatever you want to call em shock loads the...

    Oil pressure gage help!

I never liked that location for the gauge sensor or fuel pump oil pressure switch. Too big and exposed to the exhaust and road debris. I've teed the behind-the-manifold connection and plugged that above-the-filter port couple times. They're 1/8 NPT fittings. Just grab some brass tubes and...

    Redid brakes, drums dont fit

Same here. Never-Seeze on the threads and the unthreaded pin and socket at the other end. Never had one lock up on me. Wouldn't use it on a part that gets a lot of movement but these only move slightly over a long timeframe.

    What is this??

Only some light truck ALDL ports have the fuel pump test terminal. It's the lower left corner terminal "G". If G is populated then it's a fuel pump test terminal on the light trucks. I believe it's only populated on the 88-98 T400 CK chassis. Some of the fuel injection Fieros, F-Bodies...

    Oil pressure gage help!

Fuel pump test terminal off the Metripack 280/630 fuel pump relay. You can energize the fuel pump when the relay is not switching by applying 12v to that connection. This schematic snippet is from my dual tank Theory Of Operation writeup on the 47-current chevy truck boards 73-87 sub-forum...

    Well What A Day!

Too late to completely stop it from damaging things. But... You should still wash it off. It'll stop it from causing more damage than it already has. His lawyers will take anything you say and use it out of context to verbally beat you up. There's always a temptation to talk to him and...

    Differential Fluid advice

If they were offering it. The D-Series CUCV were special order government machines. I don't believe the CUCV came from GM in the M1029 & M1031 configuration. I read once that both of those were M1008 CUCV trucks modified with DOD approved kits to carry various flavors of utility boxes. Trac...

    Np208 transfer case brace

Most if not all of the 4x4 TH350, TH400, & TH700R4 had cast inspection covers with the drilled and tapped bosses for the strut rods. Those plates go under the clamshells directly against the block. My NV4500 didn't have bosses on the bottom of the bell. My engine side strut rods are attached...

    Differential Fluid advice

Agreed. However... It would be exceptionally unusual to see a LSD in these trucks. We're talking about 1973-1991 squarebody pickups based on a late 1960's design. GM didn't factory install a limited slip in light trucks til at least the second generation past our trucks... at least 1998 T800...

    Brake issue

Weed sprayer pressure bleeders work quite well. You can buy one ready made from Motive Products or build your own. They're the only thing that's allowed me to get all the air out of the ABS units on the newer cars. Here's one of the better pressure pot cap arrangements for the cast iron...

    Starter questions

Some actual thought was put into the connections on these older starters too... I believe R is a #10 stud and S is a #8. So... As long as the ring terminal on the crank wire is original or the correct diameter replacement you can't hook the crank wire to the wrong stud.

    Starter questions

1 The 27MT & 28MT starters on the 6.xL AMG GM diesel used a brace from the block to the starter. GM usually used the brace on the high torque gasoline starter motors as well. The pictured starter is a high torque unit ID by the spacer connecting the solenoid to the copper strap going into the...

    Fixing brake lines=removing truck bed?

I usually "upgrade" a U-haul butchered tail harness with the 1985 and later Weatherpak 2x2 4 terminal plug and run four brand new SXL un-interrupted wires all the way to four new Packard 56 terminals that can be inserted in the firewall disconnect plug. My favored method of protecting the wires...

    Differential Fluid advice

Neither of those are stock diffs either. Good that you know what's in there. After 30-50 years of service to multiple owners the only way to know positively is to pull the cover and look. If you have a LSD then by all means put in the additive... those are an exception to the norm. GM didn't...

    Differential Fluid advice

Yup. Not everyone needs a Dana 60 front axle under their truck... we aren't running 76 and later Ford F-series 1/2 & 3/4 ton pickups with that miserable Dana 44 TTB. I have two eight lug HD Dana 44 axles. One Dana 44 closed knuckle on a 1972 F250 Ranger XLT Camper Special and one RHD HD 8...

    Differential Fluid advice

The G80 isn't a limited slip diff it's a locker. There is a difference. http://www.fourwheeler.com/how-to/1101or-locker-vs-limited-slip-differential/ GM didn't put a Limited Slip Diff in the light trucks til at least the 1998 T800 light truck chassis... maybe the 2007 T900 light trucks. That...

    Differential Fluid advice

No additives in front or rear axles. Not needed up front and open rears. Limited slip additive is bad for the optional Eaton G80 lockers in the rears. Just steer clear of Limited slip additive. GL-5 80W90 Synthetic gear oil is what I use.

    Np208 transfer case brace

This is what the Cast Inspection Cover for the TH350, TH400, & TH700R4 on the 4x4 models looks like. Note the drilled and tapped bosses for the motor mount strut/brace rods. It's not difficult to imagine how to run strut rods from those bosses to the motor mount clamshell area on the block.

This is the TC to bell brace on an NP205. I don't have any of the bell to motor mount braces.

    Recommend rear wheel cylinder?

Gear Oil and DOT3, DOT4, and Dot5.1 glycol based brake fluid reduces the friction of the brake linings. Since brakes work by friction that's a bad thing... Looks like the axle seal is leaking and the axle looks groooved. Not un-common. I'd use an SKF Speedi-Sleeve, new seal, and new axle...

    Recommend rear wheel cylinder?

Once drum brake shoes or disc pads have brake fluid or oil on them you can stick a fork in em... they're all done. Don't re-use them. You do want to thoroughly clean off the gear oil or brake fluid from everything else. It'll collect brake dust and cake up the innards of the drum brakes like...

    Changing from R12 to R134...

I tend to use the methods that absolutely work every single time and last the longest. You can shortcut things but the results aren't predictable. Proper oil charge is the difference between just cool and actually cold vent temps. The massive condenser GM used on these trucks makes the system...
