    Truck ID Again

That's not the block casting number. It's some other code... Date or shift or some such. The casting number should be behind the LH cylinder head on the block along the bellhousing. The stamped Ident code should be on the machined pad behind the alternator. If the block has been decked the...

Wiper delay not working right, works on low and high

The signal lever (stalk) is not the wiper switch. It's just the handle to control the switch. The actual wiper switch is in the column. You can test the delay portion of the column switch with a multimeter set to 1M resistance range. The circuit 96 wires for the resistance to control the...

    05 Impala Coolant Issue

Do some detective work. A quick N dirty way to find your leak is to blow shop air into each cylinder with the piston on that cylinder at TDC and then BDC. An "Air hold adapter" is around $10. It screws into the spark plug hole and allows you to connect your shop air hose to the cylinder. I...

    05 Impala Coolant Issue

A cooling system pressure tester will tell you right now whether you have combustion entering the cooling system via a blown head gasket or cracked block/head or just leaking via the 3.4L 3.8L favorite... blown intake gaskets. If the cooling system is pressurizing immediately it's likely leaking...

    Distributor rebuild or replace?

I found some more info on one of the Corvette boards about the felt washer and the plastic seal on top of the grease well under the pickup coil assembly. I've always just re-used them but the ones I had were in OK condition. The felt is Standard Motor Products DG53 or NAPA Echilin ECH DP110...

    Distributor rebuild or replace?

Amazon is just one place. You can get the Delco Professional etc parts from Summit, Jegs, RockAuto, O'Riley, ... If the GM core is in good enough shape to re-work you can't beat it. If the advance is seized and you can't find a re-buildable core then it's time to take a chance on a...

    Distributor rebuild or replace?

That's why I stick to GM distributor cores with new AC Delco & Delphi electronics. I still have a box of new 1980's Blue Streak caps and rotors I lucked into for the van. Not sure how you so completely screw up a simple casting and machining operation but the Chinese are masters at that crap...

    Distributor rebuild or replace?

Real hard to screw up steel shims and plastic bushings... You can mic em and find out right away. If you can get a GM advance can then, by all means, get that. I didn't say that Mallory, Accel, Crane, etc are aftermarket and probably Chinese parts so beware... BEWARE!!!

    Electrical woes....

Dumb question but... Do you have juice at the big fat red wire on the ignition switch? It should be hot with the key off or on. Doesn't matter.

    Distributor rebuild or replace?

Re-working with AC Delco & Delphi HEI electrical parts and Moroso or Accel or ... mechanical bits is not any more expensive than the cheap Asian knockoff distributors. Cheap Chinese electrical parts are usually miserable excuses for parts. Delco and a few others have the resources to ride the...

    ford blue orifice tube

I didn't notice any serious difference. I was going from no AC for several years to working AC so... It seemed to perform adequately in traffic and on the interstate so... if you are getting poor performance at one or the other end and your system is very clean it may help you. I don't have...

    ford blue orifice tube

Some older GM trucks and cars used TXV. IIRC my buddy had one on his 1972 Chevelle. They are tuned for R12 and I've never looked into what needs to be done, if anything, to make it run with R134a. I have run a Variable orifice tube and never had issues with it sticking... I'm a bit OCD about...

Rustiest Radiator Thick Slimy RUST... How To Clean???

Not evil but I'd be very very respectful of it. 2010 is a powdered acid (Cleaner) 2011 is a powdered base (Neutralizer) The data sheet calls out SULFAMIC ACID in the list of ingredients for the 2010 powder. For those of you that remember high school chemistry... Sulfamic Acid is H3NSO3 an...

Second Trans failure in 200 miles

Are you sure your mechanic installed the aftermarket cooler and not just the original factory loop through the radiator? Did your mechanic flush out the cooler and the lines? I'd check the cooler and lines for blockages. I usually install a Magnefine transmission filter in the return from the...

Rustiest Radiator Thick Slimy RUST... How To Clean???

It's pretty much the same as the old 2 step Prestone Heavy Duty Cooling system acid cleaner and neutralizer. They might've had a more aggressive neutralizing agent than baking soda for step 2 but I doubt it. I never had an issue with leftover acid from step one.

Rustiest Radiator Thick Slimy RUST... How To Clean???

There are/were several cooling system flushes. I've used the TSP based Prestone Fast Flush and the old EPA banned two-step oxalic acid step 1 and neutralizer step 2 Prestone Heavy Duty flush that actually worked. That sludge could be rust or someone mixed organic acid coolant with the...

    Neutral switch replacement/adjust help needed

On the 1987 RV trucks and probably through to 91 (I haven't looked)... the park-neutral portion should have Green/Black (434, ECM B10) and Black (450, ECM Ground) wires on a two-terminal 12015034 Female Packard 56 plug. This switch grounds the Park-Neutral terminal B10 on the ECM allowing...

    Blinker issues “SOLVED”

There are several videos using the T400 CK chassis... Very similar column to the one we have in the 84-91 CK & RV trucks. Saginaw columns were put in lots of different vehicles from GM, AMC, and Chrysler. My 85 AMC Eagle wagon has a Saginaw column. The column I cabbaged out of a Concord for...

New from Austin. Trying to fix my wife's truck.

Any new fuel hose marked SAE J30R9 will put up with Ethanol. SAE J30R9 is for use on the fuel valve, senders, and engine fuel line connections. When you swap the tank I'd replace the inside-the-tank fuel pump hose with SAE J30R10 submersible hose. SAE J30R9 will not work in the tank and SAE...

A bit of information, VIN K on 2wd Truck?!?!?

The SM465 with a Gear Vendors overdrive box is a less expensive stouter setup. You can tow in overdrive with the GV. 5th gear will back off the shaft on the NV4500 if you tow in OD.

    Blinker issues “SOLVED”

GM did a cool but odd thing with the front turn signal bulbs on these trucks... With the parking lights off, the side marker and turn signal flash together. With the parking lights on they alternate. GM did this by routing the ground wire from the bayonet base side marker light to the front...
