    Need some HEI Distributor knowledge!

The original 66 200 I6 Load O Matic distributor doesn't have a stellar reputation and the female cap isn't suited for higher voltage coils. Even if you go with the whole Pertornix distributor they neglected to do the easy upgrade to a male terminal cap to keep the Original Equipment Look. If...

    Need some HEI Distributor knowledge!

DUI will work quite well. Your other option is a Ford Duraspark out of a later rig. HEI works quite well but Ford/AMC Duraspark and Chrysler electronic ignitions worked quite well too. The main advantage of the DUI HEI setup is it's very compact. The downside is the cost. If you want to keep...

Another loose connector. Please help identify.

Its likely the fuel gauge wire disconnect on the dual tank harness. The female half is the single tank female sender plug. Option NL2 is a separate diagram after the main harness pages.

    Occasional fuel loss?

Could still be the fuel pump depending on the quality level of the new unit you put in two years ago... and the number of miles you cranked to it in the last two years.

    Clicking noise

The solid front axles are essentially full floating axles. The axle stubs stay still and the spindles rotate when the hubs are unlocked. Lock the hubs and see if the noise goes away anyway. Prolly won't change

    Clicking noise

Bad needles in the outer Universals in the axle? Similar to bad CV joints... I always thought of this as a snapping and popping noise. but... The needle bearings around the end of the axle stubs inside the spindles can make ticking a noise when they're on their way out as well.

    R12 to 134A

The big mistake a lot fo folks make is to assume the dryer is OK just because the sytem is still closed. If it's not working then it's been open to some amount of humid outside air... the dryer, in this case, is DONE. Stick a fork in it and get another with fresh desiccant. If you flush the...

    R12 to 134A

As long as it was flushed out completely, the compressor oil was dumped, the fittings swapped, a new accumulator/dryer installed, R12 O-rings swapped to R134a compatible, and the compressor & system has a full but not overfull charge of Ester oil you should be good to go. You may get away with...

In dash plug for PW and PL

You can re-terminate the door wiring using the correct shells. I'd go that route rather than butt splicing it. The part numbers for the shells are in the GM wiring diagrams. Mouser Electronics has many of the shells that aren't obsolete.

    A/C control , no power

Power enters the Heat/AC control head, then the switch, then the resistor or the AC HI blower relay when the blower switch is set to High on an AC truck. Heat/AC and Heat-only are a sub harness that was installed based on how the truck was optioned. There's a wire from the fuse panel to the...

    Intellitronix installed

The Molex connetors like Painless # 40011 are poor at best. I've fought with these connectors in older Eldorado, New FLyer, Orion, Nova, NABI, and Gillig transit coaches. They don't last long in service because the connectors are large and clunky with no strain relief... and they're open to...

New power window relay how-to using negative trigger

The door shells are the same from 77 on IIRC. Any reason not to use the more efficient 82 and later motor in the 77-81 doors? Kinda like updating the 6.2L diesel from the 27MT to 28MT starter that GM used on the later 6.5L.

    Baking or buying wheels?

I'm surprised you weren't sleeping in the doghouse for a month for that one. SWMBO doesn't want the casserole and cookies to taste like Epoxy, Acrylic, Kynar, Polyester, or ... and I can't say that I blame her. Cancer runs in my family so I'm a little careful of what I ingest. No need for...

    Dome and Courtesy light issue

The harness layouts are shown in the 90 & 91 wiring manuals. Despite the many changes over the years, the layouts GM used on the last two years of the squares provide a reasonable place to start looking for the components... if not exactly where they were placed. I'm a member of several...

    Elec. window/ lock harness question

It's an optional setup. The ones I've pulled were not super seriously integrated with the main cab harness. GM didn't make every truck with electric doors, AC, or NL2 dual tanks so they are sub harnesses that could be added when the line saw the RPO codes on the build sheet. Heat without AC...

    Windshield squirter wiring

If the washer is OK electrically then you can get a replacement diaphragm and gasket kit for the washer setup. You can also get replacements for the internal plastic gears and cams. However, Andy is correct. These have a less than stellar track record for reliablity. I can't remember any of...

    Windshield squirter wiring

PDF apps for your phone generally do quite badly. Open em on your MAC or PC. If it's a real CUCV then you'll need the DOD TMs not the civvy manuals. SteelSoldiers has em for free. Again use a PC or MAC or a decent tablet with the real ADOBE Reader not your phone. That looks like a 1980ish...

    Value of this truck?

My 2000 T400 C2500HD and my 2001 T800 K2500HD have 10.5" Full Floaters. GM used the 9.5" SF axles on the lighter GVW 6 lug trucks. Pop that dent out of the bed so it's mildly presentable and replace the missing and duct taped handles so it doesn't look like it's been through the mill. Clean it...

    How I hate electrical issues...

There literally are only four wires in the tail harness. Add an additional three for breakaway battery charge power, Ground, and the Electric brake actuator wire and you get the standard seven terminal trailer plug. I usually find that U-haul or a PO has knackered the tail harness on cars and...

Simplified dual tank with sniper EFI

This is the reply from Pollack... between the dashes. ------------------------- >Is the 42-159 valve E85 compatible or not? David, That is a good question. I know it’s never been extensively tested for E85 but have not seen any issues. It is possible that the valve may not last as long...

Simplified dual tank with sniper EFI

Those valves will handle E10 just fine. It was the E85, at eight and one half times that concentration, I questioned. I would change all of the rubber lines to fresh SAE J30R9 hose, including the vapor lines, and use fresh SAE J30R10 submersible hose inside the tank. When the mandated sale of...
