Yes. It may be different on later models, I just don't know about those. -

I found this pic online. It is suppose to be 78. If you look and fan switch close, the lowest setting is LO. There is no off. This is the same as my 74. -

No, the motor runs on low when key is on. That is how mine does. Don't think there was a change from 74 to 78. I don't like it either, that was the design. It use to be called "Flow through ventilation" or something like that. I just live with it. I got my motor from NAPA on the 74 and also on a... -

Sounds like you need a new blower motor or maybe something inside causing noise. Pull motor and check out. -
