I get it, we all have different ways of going about it and the results are generally the same. The current problem with your tank is it’s a fixed turned neck tank forcing you to go to the passenger side with a possible ability to flip it around and go drivers. There is a thread/ vid here...
If it has a high himp already you should see an indentation. If you have a low hump you will need to get hands on a high hump and go for it. There is an aftermarket unit on fleabay but you can probably junkyard one also. The standard trucks had high humps in 2WD also
Quality cost money…. The blazer tank I’m using from TanksInc has a price tag around the 7’s. Luckily I got it for a smoking deal in the summit outlet. I think I’m in it 2 or less and it came with the fuel pump.
If I was in the market at this moment I would go with the Boyd’s. If I had to...
My suggestion would be through the bed floor on a stepside. You may be able to run a hose all the way up to the filler though. On my project I brought in a LS Fab tail light filler setup but I am using a fleetside bed.
There are a few options. Blazer tank, suburban tank, or a Boyds unit which is a very nice unit and doesn't need a bunch of messing about to install where the first two options will need some crossmembers pulled/moved.
Update on the Vintage Air side of things:
I am using a painless AC/Fan relay setup. It has 3 relays to work through the operation. I think 2 turn on a fan each off the thermal connection and the third turns on a single fan when the AC is activated.
I ran and connected the wires from...
LOL yeah. I was trying to simply pull a smidge more of the harness from under the dash into the engine bay and its tight. even in place I am not sure I could get a wrench on the nuts. Either way its a very cool product for the purpose.
Progress today- a little electrical, a little mechanical, and some body to frame grounding.
Working on the electrical under the hood. Just getting stuff where it goes etc. Ran the power cable from the alternator to the battery mega fuse setup. It shows it a bit different on the diagram...
A smidge of an update before moving from inside the cab to outside.
The TCI unit needs power “directly from battery”. I get why they do this but no way I’m having #18 wires running un fused. It has a fuse on the harness but it’s at the Tci controller connector.
So on the AA harness it has a...
Rebuilds never seem to last no matter how much care I put into doing it. On my current project I had a choice of several to pull/rebuild or go new. I went new and so far its been a good decision but we are still in the building process.
Took the wife to a flick yesterday and then worked my way across the cab trying to wrap up the internal wiring. Trying to
Find a good spot for the TCU. The gas pedal bracket would allow 2 bolts.
Also maybe on the backside of the dash face- going to leave it loose for now.
Installed the...
On past weapons I’ve used Norrels on the only way to get the finish off was hard sanding or sandblasting.
This is an example of the gloss on a 33K I built and F1’ed. Pretty legit tough stuff. They make an air dry but I use the bake on.
I was reading the can of appliance epoxy and it...
You might get lucky. The hole is right behind the blender box. I have gorilla mitts and couldn’t get the nuts on so had to pull the 2 bolts and 2 screws to drop the unit down.
Fact- the VA unit is much easier to bolt into place on the second run.
It has 3 holes in the back. You only use 2 and drill holes along side your big hole. Then it comes with 1/4” studs that you put it in and put nuts on from the back. I had to drop my vintage air system to install it but it’s a very nice part. I plan on sealing it up after everything gets...
They are called ferrules. I use them in my day to day in control panels. It gives you a solid connection for the screws vs just tightening down on the wire which you can jiggle and pull out. This isn’t the exact ones I use but an Amazon prime kit that has a good start...
Spent a little time on this today. Going to try to wrap up the dash portion from drivers to passenger side.
TCI- TCU connections to the DD setup.
Speed outlut from TCI (orange) wire to the speed send terminal.
Pink wire- 12v ignition- there is an extra 12v key power on an unused section of...
I’m not setup to do PC but I’m setup to do cerakote and Norrels Moly resin. I’ve got a gloss Borrels black that I used on some MP5 builds that may work. Either way probably worth a shot.
What kind of paint are you using to refinish your wing window frames? It almost looks like black appliance epoxy would throw the factory style shine but just curious as I’m working to rebuild a couple.
I have been eying this one. It was posted on marketplace and one of the DFW squarebody for sale pages. Someone tagged it as a scam but looking through the guy's profile and IM'ing him it seems to be a real deal as I wasn't asked for a "deposit" instead given hours that I could look at it. I...
