    Oil Pressure Gauge problems

My electrical knowledge is pretty limited. I'm a mechanical engineer, electricity is somewhat of a black magic to me. I don't even know what a rheostat is and I probably don't want to mess with that adjustment. I would rather just get the gauges that were meant for this truck, this gauge...

    Oil Pressure Gauge problems

The gauge cluster is the one shown. I took it off a junkyard truck. Pretty sure it was an 84 or 85. How would I verify what I have to know which resistance range senders I need? Is there a way to shop for them based on the resistance values you listed? I would like each sensor to have a single...

    Squarebody Differentials.

Sorry if it was covered in the last 30 pages of posts. Any chance of adding the fluid type and capacities to the original post?

Thanks for the detailed response. Any advice on the temp sensor?

How to Calculate Gear Ratio wo Removing Covers

I am taking my covers off to change the fluid this weekend. With the gears or carriers be stamped with the ratio of do I need to count teeth? Anything special to know to identify the carrier or just take lots of pics?

    Oil Pressure Gauge problems

My question is along these lines. How do I make sure I get the correct oil pressure and coolant temp senders? I just reworked a gauge cluster to get rid of my army truck dummy lights for gauges. I am trying to do my research ahead of time but Advance Auto has at least six options. Some have a...

    Wheel bearing replacement.

8 miles per day? Sounds like someone works in an Amazon warehouse. I don't mind people venting if they have a hard day/time. But most of our lives have their times of difficulty. It's easier to follow posts and reply when it's limited to technical questions and answers I don't know if it's...

Window glass falls out of channel

Do you have photos or a diagram to explain what you did? Might driver's window is doing the same thing. I checked and everything is bolted in correctly, no missing hardware, etc. But every time I lower the window when it gets near the bottom of the travel it pops right out.

73-87 (91) Fleetside Tailgate Mechanism Repair

I bought the replacement handle from LMC to swap out the one I mangled trying to remove. I am amazed by how much travel/slop I have in the handle before it begins to engage the lock mechanisms. It seems like there would have to be a return spring to take up the slop.

    Shifter Bushing

Is there supposed to be a plastic bushing that goes onto the end of the SM465 shifter where it inserts into the transmission? Or is it supposed to be metal on metal? On the other transmissions I've taken apart it looks similar to the last photo. Also, is anything supposed to insert into the two...

    Cure for SM465 Sloppy Shifter

How many folks have attempted this? I got mine out of the truck, soaked it in solvent overnight, and hit it with the torque this morning. The foul smelling smoke rolling out of the shifter smells like burnt rubber to me. There is not an internal rubber bushing i s there?

    Manual Hub Identification

This is how well (poorly) my wheel spun immediately after torquing to 50 lb-ft.

    Manual Hub Identification

@AuroraGirl Different strokes for different folks I guess. I guess it shouldn't be any stranger than folks purposely pouring hot candle wax on themselves/each other. I'll mark you down for at least the M in BDSM.

    Manual Hub Identification

Well, if you are trying to figure out the one that is hanging up or you suspect a bearing is dragging/overtightened don't use a bare hand to see if the hub is hot. That is a good way to lose some skin. Gloves or non-contact thermometers are you friend.

    Manual Hub Identification

It's probably fine if you torqued down the outer lock nut. It's easy to check though. Lift the wheel and try to shake it back and forth at the 3/9 and 6/12 o'clock positions. If if wobbles like the bearing is bad, go back in and tighten things down. If the wheel has a lot of drag turning it, or...

    5.3 LM7 going in my 87

Yeah, I'm going to pull the accessory bracket tomorrow. I bought new pressure and return lines and the 20-8740 high pressure pump. It did not have the extra return fitting either.

    5.3 LM7 going in my 87

I guess I should have paid attention to what truck you had before I asked. Your's is 2WD correct? Rack and pinion or gearbox? How has the steering behaved since you got it running? I called the cardone folks because I was a little dyslexic with the part number when I got to work. Of course they...

    Manual Hub Identification

What Bex said. Too tight and it wears out bearings. Too loose and there's a lot of slop and it can chew up bearings/washers. You want the inner bearing race to spin with respect to the outer bearing race. You do not want the whole bearing assembly to spin which can happen when it's too loose. I...

    Manual Hub Identification

Which step are you asking about? Torque it to 50 lb ft to settle the bearing in place. Back off on the spindle nut enough to make the peg on the nut line up with a hole on the washer. Torque exterior spindle nut against the washer. The fish scale technique is called out in my factory service...

Answered my own question. I'm surprised there aren't two bushings. Mine was installed on the wrong side.

    NP 208 Shifter Missing Parts

No one knows what should go here? Can anyone point me towards a parts diagram?

    Manual Hub Identification

Oh, ok. Back off just enough to get the peg on the washer to line up?

    Wheel bearing replacement.

Where did you pull this info? The Chevy service manual? The Dana/Spicer service manual says torque inner nut to 50 lbft, back off up to 90 degree (I assume less depending on the how much bearing drag you want), and torque the outside nut to 50 lbft minimum. They don't distinguish between the...
