    SM465 Backup Lights

I don't recall a wiring harness or connector on the trans. Where should I be looking?

Everything I touch on this truck turns into a can of worms. I'm somewhere between a barrel of worms and an industrial scale nightcrawler farmer at this point.

    SM465 Backup Lights

I'm in the process of installing a painless harness into my CUCV with an SM465 swap. I do not see provisions for a neutral safety switch or backup lights. What do folks do to get these working? Is there a switch on the trans that will be closed when I shift I to reverse?

    Neutral Saftey Switch

What did you end up using to solve your issue? I am in the same boat with a auto converted to a manual. My clutch pedal does not have a switch, not do I see anywhere to attach one.

No noises. I've driven it around the yard but haven't gone highway speed yet. I bought the truck and trailered it home. I finished the engine swap and now I'm going through and doing the little maintenance items before I put it on the road.

Yeah. That would have sounded really bad. Here is a full video if you want a detailed description. A much shorter version that just shows side shim backlash is here.

I wish that was the case but it's not. Everything is tight. Nothing is loose. And there is no metal shavings in the diff fluid. Whatever problem it had was corrected in the past but they didn't take the time to replace the carrier.

Yeah, I'm not sure if that needs more shims to pull the pinion further towards the drive shaft or less shims on the inside. Not very familiar with the 12 bolt truck axle.

Yeah, I'm not going through the effort to check the backlash or paint these gears to see the wear pattern. I'm sure it would just make my head hurt worse than it already does.

I know right? not only did they hear it but they changed the fluid after the fact and still slammed it back together. There was absolutely no metal in the diff fluid and it looked great.

Are you reading the gear ratio from the bill of material? The numbers stamped on the ring actually say 43:14 so 3.07. I was also interested to see if it says anything about locker or LSD. It's an open diff as far as I can tell for the front Dana 44.

    Random Diff Questions

Ever seen a pinion so poorly adjusted and/or the wrong carrier installed such that the pinion machines the carrier? Does anyone know if ring gears have the date of manufacturer stamped in them? I'm trying to ascertain what year my axles are and both front and rear ring gears have a 73 stamped...

How to Calculate Gear Ratio wo Removing Covers

No, I mean the Dana website for looking at stuff up comes up with an internet error. Like they decommissioned the website.

How to Calculate Gear Ratio wo Removing Covers

I also found the stamps on my front axle tube that I thought would be the BOM. The numbers don't match the pattern with the Dana 60 tool I'm familiar with. The Dana expert tool websites also won't load for me. Does anyone know how to translate this?

How to Calculate Gear Ratio wo Removing Covers

Yeah. Oh well, it's getting replaced anyways. Does the ring gear indicate the story it was built as well? I notice a "73" stamped on both the front and rear ring gear.

How to Calculate Gear Ratio wo Removing Covers

    I see lots of numbers. None that sound like a ratio to me unless it's 3.22. 3 22 73 Dana 30060 A3D47 43-14.

    Squarebody Differentials.

I'll take that as a "no".

    Oil Pressure Gauge problems

I removed an aftermarket mechanical gauge and cut the copper tube running into the cab. I like the cleaner look of a factory gauge cluster. I picked up two sensors from advanced. I have an extra threaded plug I can use on the passenger side head for coolant temperature. I bought a threaded boss...

Got my gauges set up finally!!!!

I'm sure it isn't fresh anymore, but do you know the part numbers you used for the oil and coolant senders? I'm hoping they will work with my 1986.

    Oil Pressure Gauge problems

The fun part is there are ones that have switch in the title, gauge in the description, and have the same part number but with a letter designation at the end. That's why I am looking for someone with firsthand experience of a good part number. I can catalog shop too but don't want to end up...

    Oil Pressure Gauge problems

Then I'm lost. They thread into a 1/8 NPT and detect pressure. Some say they are a "light" which I assume illuminates a dummy the light. Some say "gauge" which I assumed are for the gauge cluster. None explain why there are so many choices.

    Oil Pressure Gauge problems

There are 11 options that say they fit. 7 if I narrow by brand.

    Oil Pressure Gauge problems

It's not that I'm scared to take it on. Just don't have the bandwidth or interest to figure it out unless someone has a "how to" showing me what parts to buy and step-by-step instructions.
