What have you done to your square lately??

That looks great! How’d it go? And what seat cover brand did you use? That’s on my list of things to do.

What have you done to your square lately??

Finished up the power steering today, and put a timing mark cover on the harmonic balancer. Fired it up to bleed the system and played some Hot For Teacher through the exhaust for the neighbors.

    1994 Dodge Ram Van 350

Nice find! I’ve heard nothing but good stuff about those vans. My boss years ago had one, it was his daily driver and tow rig for his autocross race car. He went everywhere with that thing and did everything with it. Later on, I rented a room when I was in college, and the homeowner laid carpet...

What have you done to your square lately??

That’s what I should’ve seen coming and ordered it. 40 years on a tapered fit plus 180 ft lbs of torque on that nut… there’s no tool in the world made out of pot metal that would’ve stood up to that.

What have you done to your square lately??

Power steering lines are in. Turns out “guaranteed to fit” doesn’t mean s*it. I had to completely re-bend the high pressure hose to keep the belt from directly rubbing on the hose, even though the pump is in the stock location- completely clocked up toward the fan. Don’t know how that wouldn’t...

    Printed Circuit Question 79 K10

When I took apart my cluster to do the tach conversion, mine had a printed circuit failure at one point. He had taken a couple small screws drilled through the back of the green plastic, and homemade a couple terminals out of them, one on each side of the part that had gone bad. He put a jumper...

    Level my truck

Welcome! Nice looking rig. Perhaps some big block springs? I remember reading somewhere that they do make spring spacers, maybe that’ll raise it a bit.

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

When I was looking for a truck, I was so excited to find one with a 12 bolt. Mostly because I was told that they were the cool ones when I was a kid. Now that I own one, I’d almost rather have a 10 bolt 8.5. I see all kinds of offers on the Facespace Marketplace for 10 bolts. Stock take-offs...

What have you done to your square lately??

Most of the way through the rag joint and steering box replacement. Even after heat, PB Blaster soaking and whacking the pitman arm with a BFH, still wouldn’t come off with a regular parts store puller. The arms flexed and then the threads stripped. I had to step up to a more stout Lisle puller...

    Looking for hood stripes

Thanks for posting that. I looked at Low Sierra, and the only place that they have a presence is on instagram. I sent them a message to see if they are still in business- their website apparently has been down for a while and the last post on instagram was in 2022. I’d be interested in one of...

'85 C10 tire fit/stuff question (not the normal questions you're used to seeing here)

Got nothing to add, just wanted to compliment you on that LJ. Had one a while back, loved it. Just couldn’t afford to commute with it with the small gas tank and the gas mileage.

    Craziest antitheft idea yet.

I know that Bieri has joked many times that he leaves both battery cables the same color so at least if they try to steal it, they burn the rig to the ground. Downside is then you’re both out a vehicle.

    Rag joint question (see picture)

Thanks! My ‘81 manual didn’t explain that- unless they put it in a different section. Case closed!

    Rag joint question (see picture)

I’m just double checking. In a lot of applications, the flat spot of an input shaft is where the pinch bolt comes across and is clearance for that.

    Rag joint question (see picture)

Yeah, I hear ya- but there is no flat spot on the Dorman rag joint, just a part of the circumference where there are no splines. Does that part of the rag joint with no splines go on the flat spot of the input shaft?
  17. ChuckN

    Rag joint question (see picture)

Ok, let me rephrase- my Dorman 31011 is completely round, with part of the circumference not having splines. The replacement gearbox has splines all the way around except for the flat spot. The manual says nothing about the interface- so does the part of the circumference where there are no...

    Rag joint question (see picture)

Thanks for taking the time- I did look through the summit links and the Dorman is listed as well as two others. But the pictures aren’t great, and it doesn’t answer what I’m looking for. The 31011 is listed as my application but it is for a range of applications it seems.

    Rag joint question (see picture)

I’m currently in the middle of replacing the steering box. When I was looking at the new steering box and the Dorman rag joint 31011, I noticed that the rag joint doesn’t have splines all the way around- one spot is blank. If that’s the way it’s supposed to be, fine- I just don’t want to go...

    Wheel and tire size help!!

I think there might be a term for it- I think it’s “infinite spring rate”? Not sure- anyway, what it means is that there’s no travel so it basically bottoms and you lose traction when it bounces- forgive me, I’m just parroting what I read. Send me a PM @Elliot W! An angle grinder to take off...

    Wheel and tire size help!!

Paging @bluex - not sure if he’s worked with the C20/25 lowering or not. It’s my understanding that the limiting factor for lowering our trucks in general is the size of the inner fender well, and I’ve never been told that there is a difference fender well between the C10s and C20s. My...

    Newbie Vortec Cam Question

Came here to recommend this, nice choice. I appreciate that you mentioned the leaks as well. A guy that I know pointed out that my standard Performer that had leak issues didn’t have the “Made in USA “ tag on the front. Apparently Edelbrock like everyone else had outsourced some of their lower...

    Edelbrock Adapter questions

I don’t want to talk out of turn, but my guess is that he’s speaking of limiting the psi for the Edelbrock since they don’t like much more than 5.5-6 psi.
