    Mpg to expect on an '82 C20 3+3, 350?

Am I crazy for hopping to get at least 14 MPG highway with a beast like this? I hear 12 a lot, but I assume that's with the 454. Thoughts?

    6.2 years to avoid?

Probably 109K. She's fairly good looking, even the cruise works. I've never seen that so I assume its gotta be 109K.

    6.2 years to avoid?

Here's a good question. On the older trucks they only have 4 digit odometers, so on a 6.2 that reads "9,000" what are some secondary indicators that would tell you weather the trucks on 209000 or 109000?

Sounds like you have too much fun stuff in your garage

    6.2 years to avoid?

Absolutely, but how much should a worry about major failures if I'm planning to not do any pulling? I want it for the good mileage. So I'm not towing, how much of a difference does that make?

    6.2 years to avoid?

So then is there a simple fix I could do you proactively stop that? Like I'm looking at a 6.2 with only 106K on it, what reinforcements can I do to get her to 300K?

    6.2 years to avoid?

In my long journey of suburban hunting, I've run across quite a few 6.2s. But a recently remembered someone saying how early 6.2s where prone to block cracks, which go me thinking, is there a noticeable lifespan benefit to buying say a 1991 6.2 versus a 1984 one with the same miles? Are there...

I want to drive an '89 suburban 700 miles home, what should I know?

Great hub of information and encouragement! Hey, if this isn't the suburban and it becomes evident the owner is hiding something from me I'll listen to my "gut", and pass. I'm always looking, maybe it'll be 3 years from now, but I WILL get a 'burbun one day.

I want to drive an '89 suburban 700 miles home, what should I know?

Oh neat, The truck is in Spear fish. I'd plan my route pretty much dead center though the full length of south Dakota, with deviations to see the sights depending on how smooth its going, Black hills would to awesome to see. thanks for throwing yourself out there, If this trip works out at all...

I want to drive an '89 suburban 700 miles home, what should I know?

Yes @Ricko1966 It's going to be bare bones. (But probably should double my budget) Taking only tools I have at home, packed lunches, probably not actually do hotels and just sleep in the car. And once the 'burb is picked up each of us can sleep in a separate vehicle. I will plan for failure and...

I want to drive an '89 suburban 700 miles home, what should I know?

I feel I'm being tempted! I see it this way. in four weeks, if this baby is still here, I'm going in. Otherwise, I have a plan B suburban I found closer that would also be an awesome rig. And if both these fail, I think God is telling me to buy an economy car (*Throwing up noises*) So we'll...

I want to drive an '89 suburban 700 miles home, what should I know?

@TJ1978 what companies would you recommend for shipping? Having never done something like this, what can you guys tell me that you discovered to save me from a few head aches? ha ha What is the best way for payment? What logistics are involved?

I want to drive an '89 suburban 700 miles home, what should I know?

Yes, I've considered delivery, Just something I've never done so I'm a little scared of the process. Also like you say, sight unseen. But, for the price of 3,300 dollars ( delivery cost included) I am fairly certain I could get rid of it without too much of a financial hit if its a load of crap...

I want to drive an '89 suburban 700 miles home, what should I know?

Though right now I think the largest issue is actually seeing more of the vehicle. The owner is having a hard time understanding why I need more pictures and videos. I'm trying to explain to him: "Sir I am DRIVING 711 MILES one way, I CANNO'T afford to come there, look at it and say, well I...

I want to drive an '89 suburban 700 miles home, what should I know?

Wow what a story WP29P4A, just like what I'd love to do. I know 500 is pushing it, but you have to understand I'm working minimum wage. (I already don't know if I can make the cut in 4 weeks for cash as it is) I have my youth, and that a big benefit I guess when undertaking something like this...

Wow, all this is super helpful guys. Yeah, on a trip like this I'd like to turn it into kind of a vacation, I've never been out west. why not see the sights while driving the most american thing on the road?

I want to drive an '89 suburban 700 miles home, what should I know?

I live in the Midwest. the venerable 4x4 square body suburban is my dream vehicle. I found one out west, and now I would like to possibly go get it. WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE?! I mean, from your guys' expertise, what can I do before hand to have the best chance at a successful trip with the...

6.2 For A Daily Driver? What Are The Downsides?

Don't say things like that! you'd make a guy thing the era of readily available and affordable classic cars is over!

6.2 For A Daily Driver? What Are The Downsides?

So cool. Even if you still have prominent rust there, I still think you guys have WAY better scrap and junk yards. If I want to see stuff similar to that I would have to drive near 200 miles, and I'd pay probably more like 5,000.

Hey, look on the bright side. Your south west, I'm in the rust belt, if they're hard for you to find, they're near impossible for me!

6.2 For A Daily Driver? What Are The Downsides?

I guess that's a no brainer, good thing you reminded me. when I go to see it later this week, I'll be specifically looking for rust on areas unique to the suburban that I can't replace, if she's rotten in those areas, I will probably pass. from the pictures I've seen though, it looks very clean...

6.2 For A Daily Driver? What Are The Downsides?

I guess I'd call you lucky! you've been with your vehicle, and engine, literally since new in the box. You know what you have, and have not done to it, its whole history. Like another guy here was saying, one of the biggest issues buying old trucks is what previous owners have done to them. I...
