    Does the truck need to be running with vacuum to have the electric choke work? even with alligator clips? I saw that someone mentioned that it uses some vacuum from the carb, so I'm wondering if that why mine hasn't been working

    Yeah, they might have swapped it out. This oart sure is a lot more pricey, but if it's the only option I might need to just wait for a paycheck and then get it. Once I have it what do I hook it up to? the switch on the oil pressure just has a hose leading to the gauges themselves.

    I think I finally got the issue worked out! I ran a cable from the driver side battery to the motor to have a better ground and I got it started now! I still will want to redo some wring in the spring, but at this point I do some small things like install the mechanical pump, the oil pressure...

    That fixed it! After I swapped it around and fired right up! Now I need to figure out how to work out the choke. It is electric and the truck has a manual cable... I'll need to figure that out

    Those are both good possible causes. I hadn't actually considered, if the distributor was 180 degrees off, which looking back we did set it to TDC the first time and then attempted to start it, but then pulled it at one point and then I think it was almost lined up and we forgot to double check...

    SOrry for the condusion. So the starter is controlled 100% by the external solenoid as far as I can tell. It looks like a wire goes from the big cable on the starter to the solenoid on the starter therefore if there is power at the main cable on the styarter it automatically jymps the solenoid...

    I'll look and see if I can find more fusible links. The one on the fireeall is the only one I've seen so far but I' look down by the starter as well. Still wondering about the solenoid thing because power isn't getting past it to the starter motor.
