    Buying Advice

The manual is not better if you have a strong auto set up and a good cooler. You can get in and out of reverse much quicker but you can also overheat the auto.

Are cheap welding helmets any good? (recommendations?)

I've burnt my eyes from welding in a shop with other welders close by going at it. It was the constant flashing in my helmet from the guys behind me. Not direct unprotected flashes but 'second hand' basically reflecting into my eyes from inside my helmet. Those are the worse because it really...

Are cheap welding helmets any good? (recommendations?)

Did you build the deck? It's awesome. All it takes are few angles, follow the body lines a bit and this make a big difference. It looks like something I would build. Except that... wtf?... your acetylene tank is on it's sid? How can that work without the acetone getting onto your torch? Or is...

Are cheap welding helmets any good? (recommendations?)

I don't weld for a living anymore but I can't use my high end Miller Infinity. I threw it into the wall. I love the optics, the adjustable auto darkening, but the fancy head gear I can't get to stay on my head. I have adjusted it to go as low as possible on my head, and when I do the head nod to...

    Frame Mod for newer bumper

Highly suggest you take those body lift slugs out. Run 1" maximum. Your cab will wiggle around on those 3" posts and wear out the mounts. It also looks like hell.

Yeah Bucket is right unless there aren't any holes then I get the prize.

Lifting engine in place with carb studs?

3/8s bolts... or are they 7?16s.. intake manifold bolts! One on each side of the head where the intake bolts go. One at the back, one at the front.

    Loosing steering!!

If I understand you correctly, you just zigged when you should have zagged. A longer rear shackle on the rear of the (front) spring will increase caster, making steering self-centering better and our trucks can all use this. ORD offers a HD shackle that's .5" longer. Late 80's trucks (K30s) came...

Mismatching front and rear tire sizes with 4x4

On pavement, rear tires narrower than front tires will increase over steer. How much? I don't know but it's there. Also would look stupid as fuck oh well..

    NEW GUY PLEASE HELP

Also know as a 9.5" 14 bolt. The good one is the 10.5" 14 bolt. You still have a better diff than a 10 or 12 bolt.

    Intake manifold not fitting flush

When I first heard that, chuck the china gasket, I just couldn't believe it. Buddy of mine who was an engine builder also told me and he gave me the tip of building up a ridge first and then hit ti again and install the intake. I've also successfully repaired leaks over the rear china wall...

    Intake manifold not fitting flush

Many of us have found better luck just using the RTV and tossing the rubber china fillers.

    Intake manifold not fitting flush

That's normal. As Dave said above, use rtv... the black shit... The Right Stuff. I like to measure the gap and get an idea how much there is to fill. Then on the perfectly clean china wall, I'll lay a bead and let it set up. I'll 'fill' in the edges to thicken it. I'll shoot for building it up...

    Dually axle options

Are you looking at the wide dually axle with the fenders (my avatar<<) or the narrow version the cab/chassis model had? The narrow axle would allow you to stick duals under your box sides ... but you would need to tub the fenderwells inside the box. Oh you want Duramax, so I don't what...

    2wd to 4wd conversion

Yeah I know a few guys who did the B52 kit from DIY and each build was a different can of worms. Our trucks are Lego but also, millions made with about a million small variations... Millions of parts made by what... hundreds of dies? I bet if we could look at the profiles on a few dozen frames...

Absolutely, late 70's early 80 motorhomes, which are basically free.

    2wd to 4wd conversion

You have inspired me to look a little deeper into this. I want to convert Big Blue (avatar <<) to 4x4. I have a K30 4x4 frame but the rear is so rusted. And Blue doesn't have any rust at all. Also I wouldn't hesitate to notch the frame a bit. This truck would be multi purpose and I'm not...

    2wd to 4wd conversion

Thank I appreciate this. I would think the model/brand of spring would become important, as the rear eye would have to be on the small side to fit in there. I've heard of notching the frame for spring eye clearance. If using the stock forward spring mounts, I imagine is could be shimmed to...

Rebuilding / refurbing a Saginaw Gearbox

Well for fuck sakes you guys, make up your mind. I was wondering what tranny or transfer case might have been made by Sag.. so my oil advice doesn't work. I have NEW advice! As Fast68 was saying, any oil that doesn't foam will work... but...BUT... if you use for example tranny fluid you will...
