What have you done to your square lately??

First red one i have had, almost went and changed everything to gray but the original was is mint shape so added new carpet and kept the red. I have gotten use to it. Definitely an 80's time capsule interior

If you can spend the extra $ for AMD, that is your best bet.

    gauge refurb?

Not sure about testing with a 9 volt battery. The clips you mentioned are available from LMC truck. The older ones are a bit more stout and better if you can find some OEM. The circuit board ("electronic mat thing") is fairly simple. check the bare spots on the board where the clips touch and...

    Shift Indicator

Unfortunately, it is part of the plastic gauge cluster and not replaceable. There are a lot of them on e bay cheap but beware the tab on the left side tends to break off the easiest and these things are 30 plus years old so the plastic is brittle.

    Clean polished aluminum wheels

I have always used Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish. The last set of rims I bought were ceramic clear coated which makes this a thing of the past for me:)

305 SBC vs 6.2 Detroit: Which would you rather?

Both have their issues, the 6.2 was known to have crankshaft issues due to harmonic balancer issues. The 305 had some cam issues. If I had a SB pick up I would go for the more reliable 305. For a bigger truck like the Suburban I think I would go for the 6.2. The 6.2 had decent low end torque.

What have you done to your square lately??

As you can tell I have quite a few little mods I have done over the years. On my current 87 burb, I took out the crappy plastic filler panel that covers the gap between the rear bumper and the body. I went to a sheet metal shop and had them bend me a piece of 14 GA. brushed stainless steel. Just...

What have you done to your square lately??

One of the small mods I did on my last burb, was using a hinged rear license plate holder from a 71 Chevelle. I put my 7 way trailer socket behind it so it hidden while not in use. You need to keep the plate down while in use but I never had an issue with it before. I have one from an late 60's...

What did you pay for a square

I am on my 5th squarebody, all Suburbans, My current one is a GMC Sierra Classic v2500. I paid $2,600 for it about 4 years ago while I was living in Oregon. This is a total rust free truck and before I moved out here to Indiana, bet that I had some serious undercoating put on. :) Here is a pic...

What have you done to your square lately??

One last post on this thread for today: I reupholstered my old headliner and as we all know the old cardboard liner backings are almost always warped and distorted. I ended up picking up several of the center "divider bars" in order to get it all tucked up and back into the original shape. need...

    Power mirrors for Squarebody

Hello, My next mod for my 87 burb will be modifying power mirrors from a 96 Dodge Ram. The style are about perfect replica for my current stainless steel side mirrors. The arm for the mirror going into the side bracket on the door is a tad shorter but will fit into the current SB bracket. My...

What have you done to your square lately??

Here is my current "mod". After many years of running squarebodies, I have always preferred card vs. TBI. My 87 GMC Sierra Classic is TBI and I am in the process of swapping it out to carb. This is not my first one I swapped and it is time consuming. The bad thing is that I rebuilt my motor last...

What have you done to your square lately??

Here a but a few of the "custom" items I have done on my 87 burb. I made new door pulls from aluminum flat bar and reused the chrome covers, cleaned up a steering wheel from a 94 Jimmy and installed, modified an overhead console from a 2001 Astro van to fit and also replaced the old bench seat...
