1982 250 4.1l inline six stalls when coming to a stop

Funny some of combos that could be put together back then. I'm not sure when PB became standard in 3/4 and 1 Tons, but they were an option in a 2WD 1/2 ton at least through '85.

1982 250 4.1l inline six stalls when coming to a stop

The OP says it is a 1 barrel, but 250s in '82 were integral heads w/ progressive 2 barrels, so it may have been changed around with unknown parts. If it is still the 2 barrel, they were known for thottle shaft wear issues causing idle issues.

1982 250 4.1l inline six stalls when coming to a stop

The goofy Chevy dealer in Daytona Beach was still selling base trucks in '85 with PS, auto, A/C, radio and manual brakes!

    Ball Joint Advice

The lower ball joints carry the load in that design, so they do wear faster than the uppers. If you lift at the lower A-arm, you can tell a lot more than when is at full travel, as when lifted only at the frame of the car. I could hear mine years ago. I was shocked at how loose and rough the...

Any good hacks/upgrades you've come up with for our trucks

GM has a habit of recycling designs through out car lines, all 4 terminal seat belt buzzers / chimes have the same pin out (through '84). I have a B-body seat belt chime plugged in where the original seat belt buzzer was. There are 3 extra leads off the module, one hooked to the dash lights at...

    ‘89 Caprice Mini Thread

I had studied the shop manual a lot too, with a meter taking measurements on the board and contacts. There is a contact that sticks out the back of the pulse board that didn't seem to be addressed by the FSM either. The pulse board is actually quite simple and only has about 50 cents worth of...

Most likely, it is the pulse board. I'm quite good at a lot of things for a layman, IMHO, but the hidden wiper system is a confusing electro-mechanical bag of worms. I finally gave up and bought a complete, remanufactured unit from O'Reilly's. I don't normally do that kind of thing, but the...

I saw that in the theater when it was new! Still love that movie. Drove my Caprice to the theater in Daytona Beach with a friend and his girlfriend. I can't really be as old as I feel, I've still got the same car.

    Rare????

Oh wow, how cool! Family's business had one new, plain Jane Big 10 work truck with a 350 auto, LB. I learned you didn't pull out an nail the throttle, like I was used to with Corvairs. I can't imagine that one!

I was recalling that the diverter was very different, but I personally hadn't examined exactly how one worked. It's probably unlikely that it can block the air flow completely by design. The situation I saw was a restricted check valve or actually blocked air tubes so it howled when it switched...

    ‘89 Caprice Mini Thread

I have seen a blocked port cause a strange howl from the pump. I wonder if it may have the diverter valve stuck? I should have mentioned to expect a 200R4 when you said there was a tranny leak. IIRC, all Caprices got the 200R4 from '88-'90 (maybe only '89 - '90) unless it was a 350 (9C1 and...

    ‘89 Caprice Mini Thread

Sounds like a good plan. I had that in the back of mind as well for my pickup. The unique B-body parts and an intake manifold for the 292 (besides motivation, time and money) have been my hang ups. The truck really needs it more than the car, I just don't drive it as much. Unlike most folks, I...

It's been quite amazing, only opened once 20+ years ago for the rusty looking stuff that used to collect in the bowl. Fuel economy and drivability are excellent, in general. My thoughts now are looking forward before I get into a throttle plate wear issue, but more so the hot weather issue. My...

Yep, for my '84. I think you are correct about the '91+ until the LT1. The only difference I know of is the fuel tank. I keep dreaming of finding a complete donor.

    My other pride and joy.

I have pictures here from the rust free, Intermountain west that will bring grown men to tears. I'm 99% sure the Turbo Gran Prix (mentioned early in the thread) was crushed completely intact. The only thing taken from it was the special paperwork / owner's manual that I have. It had been...

I thought my triple green was bad, but your white vinyl sounds worse. I used to see a green with tan interior Impala around my home regularly too (not long ago either). It was definitely a fugly combination.

That one is an Impala! I had a medium metallic green/green/green vinyl top '78 Impala coupe too. Loved the car, hated the color and standard soft suspension.

I love the car, but I'm jealous of your L03. My carb still works fine on my LG4 (267K miles), but hot soak at high altitude in 100+ degrees is an issue, especially with E10 fuel. I thought I had complete fuel lines from an '89 this past summer. Had them ready to remove (incidentally, they are...

    My other pride and joy.

I've come across some pretty cool W bodies that have been scrapped here (sadly rust free too), including a turbo Gran Prix, but I've not seen one that cool! Is the instrument cluster a vacuum fluorescent display?

A/C Switch installed. MUST have for us in colder regions

The A/C cycling switch opens at a pressure which equates to just above freezing. The same is true for the older systems (like my '78) that have a mechanical thermostat at the evaporator (and low pressure switch). Once the vehicle is warmed up enough, i.e. significant warmth under the hood, the...
